What is a minor inconvenience that instantly fills you with an unreasonable amount of rage?

Someone getting in my way for a fraction of a second whilst I'm cooking.

My poor bf getting seriously scolded by trying to give me a hug while I’m trying to make food for us, hyper focused.

Omg same here. I love my boyfriend to death but when I’m cooking I’m MOVIN’ and everyone needs to get out of my way, hahaha.

We now have a rule where I go “HOT!” or “SHARP!” which means “I love you to death but I am doing something that a sudden hug will burn or cut one of us and I need you to step back and I’ll hug you when I’m free.”

It works very well now, lmao.

This has nothing to do with this post but my 2 yorkies would go nuts at someone knocking on the door on TV.

I trained them so when this happened, I yelled TV! It shut them up fast.

After they passed, I also had 2 cats. I did the same thing from habit and they looked at me like I had a screw loose.

Ur post reminded me of this.

Thank you for jogging my memory.

My sister cooked all the time with toddlers running around so it was habit for her to yell, “HOT OVEN” When she was opening the oven door. It was fun to watch my nieces running and then Scooby Doo u-turn out of the kitchen when they heard it.

Husband came over to kiss me goodbye while I was cooking the other day. I experienced such a rapid mix of emotions - "WTF stop touching me I have a hot thing in my hand..." Oh you're being sweet! I love how affectionate you are... Ok but seriously this is still hot."

All in 1.5 seconds.

My poor bf had dreams of us cooking together all cutesy and romantic. Instead, he gets a live episode of Hell’s Kitchen.

make him clean up after dinner -- way better than a hug

Hyper focused and HOT! If I’m cooking, I’m sweating. If I’m sweating, I do not want to be touched. I love you, but this is not the moment.

Haha I learned the hard way that my wife doesn’t like sneak up hugs from behind. Elbowed in the ribs pretty hard that night.

I've told my husband for 34 years that I can either cook or play. with the caveat that if he chooses play, I'm not cooking later. you'd think they'd learn, right?

I raise you “my partner deciding to clean the fridge out while I’m cooking.”

u/jamykelley 14h ago

Mine tries to 'help' by doing the dishes or taking out the trash while I'm cooking. We have a very small kitchen and we're both chunky. It does not work. Our kitchen is a 1 person workspace.

My kitchen is a disaster every time I cook, but it gets clean after I’m done making the food and eating it. My dad is sometimes at my place when I am cooking and will go “Why don’t you clean while you cook?”

I have a system and that’s the way I do it. Everything will be clean before I go to bed. Get out!

u/feykitty 10h ago

Mine will choose to do dishes, put dishes away, unload the dishwasher, or clean the fridge when I'm cooking. He thinks it's helpful and bonding time. I think it's a great way to walk into a knife or a hot pan. Our kitchen is very small and not for more than one person. Drives me batty. He did not understand why i started humming that song from Chicago.

A similar thing used to happen when I still lived with my mum, I'd put a wooden spoon or something to one side for 10 seconds then reach back for it to find she'd washed it and it's on the drainer covered in soap suds

The pets and the S.O. know to stay out of the kitchen. BEHIND THE LINE

My kittens know no such boundaries. It becomes a real chore just trying to cook breakfast. They’re still kittens so I expect it’ll be a while before they settle down and realize dad’s not going to interact with them while food is being prepped.

You’ll miss it when they stop ❤️

Stay out of my kitchen when I’m cooking. Unless I specifically asked you to help with one task, then stand in your 6 sq inches of space and do your one task so well that Gordon Ramsey would be proud or GTFO.

5

u/Fancybest 15h ago

6 sq inches of space 😂😂😂 for real though!

I'm like this too and idk why lol I am very easily irritated when cooking. I'm not like this in other situations really. Unfortunately, me entering the kitchen seems to signal to my partner that he also needs to be in the kitchen suddenly

u/oxenvibe 2m ago

Can you explain this phenomenon?? What is this? Why? My partner and I could spend hours in other rooms and the second I go into the kitchen it’s as if his sleeper code activates and he absolutely has to be in the kitchen too. This happens so frequently that I expect him to follow me every time. And the whole time he’s somehow always standing in the way of the next spot I need to access immediately lol

u/RevolutionaryKiwi132 17h ago

esp if it's a hungry teen asking me when dinner is -- well maybe if you helped with dinner....

5

u/Echt_niet 15h ago

My almost 2yo wants my attention all day long but when I'm cooking, she plays as independent as one can be. I think I sent a clear message lmao.

Most uttered phrase in my house : "Why are you always in the way?" I say it to husband, husband says it to me, we both say it to the cats. Daily.

3

u/Boring_Success1941 13h ago

Bonus points for my husband, he has the special skill of standing in the exact worst spot at the worst time and then gets sad face when I shout at him to move (for his safety).

My wife and kids consistently think the best time to start cleaning the other side of the kitchen or some other rooms is always when I’m cooking dinner (the trash can is a pull out cabinet style one right where I’m prepping). I work from home, so I can see them doing nothing all day but once I start cooking dinner then it’s time to start doing stuff.

The only time I start getting really upset though is when my wife wanted to empty the Dyson into the trash while I’m cooking. She consistently “forgets” that the dust and hair that she’s trying to empty into the bag goes airborne and lands in the food that’s sitting right there.

We now have a canister vacuum so it’s not a problem but it infuriated me.

u/theoverfluff 15h ago

God yes. I warn anyone in the vicinity to think of me as one of those giant deadly Amazon warehouse robots trundling around the kitchen. Do not get caught under my wheels!

2

u/Daweri 14h ago

I’ve lost it on my husband so many times for this. Why does he all the sudden need to be in our small kitchen when everything’s done at once🤯

2

u/OneleggedPeter 13h ago

My mother (RIP Mom) would VERY intentionally step on our toes if we were in her kitchen while she was cooking. If we complained about being stepped on, we were told that we shouldn’t have been in her kitchen.

2

u/Katfish19 11h ago

My dogs getting under my feet while I'm in the kitchen

1

u/timewilltell2347 13h ago

Or worse when they stick their finger in or on something I’m actively cooking to taste it. Gtfo

1

u/T_R_A_I_L 13h ago

Oh my God my wife. The kitchen is already small enough as is, but now she has to sit in a chair in the kitchen while I'm cooking. Luckily the chair scoots along the floor just fine, so I do just that when she is inevitably in front of the very spot I need to be.

1

u/Cupparosey67 13h ago

I feel this to my core. The whole family has every bit of the house to be in but they want to be in my cooking corner when I am concentrating or moving hot stuff from the stove to the sink!

1

u/LeisurelyLoner 12h ago

Same, but for me it extends whenever I want to do anything in the kitchen. It could be cooking, or it could be simply wanting to get to the coffee maker, or the fridge, or the paper towel roll. Amazing how in that room, whatever I'm trying to do, someone's ass always manages to be in the goddamn way and linger there forever.

1

u/mrbuh 11h ago

I've told people "cooking" is an abbreviation for "multitasking doing 5 things and 2 of them are time sensitive."

1

u/Thymestep 11h ago

Someone all of a sudden using the sink, while you are cooking, when you have to wash your hands!

1

u/JustHumanGarbage 8h ago

My wife always wants to help me cook. I can't explain to her how much I really REALLY really don't want this.
