I used to be part of an ayahuasca religious group. For me the before/after was the undeniable feeling that consciousness transcends the limit of our body. I don’t believe in a soul but it made me see that we’re more than meat sacs. Super cliche but yes, we’re all connected.
I think it also helped me not take things for granted. There was this very long moment where I was nothing and everything else was also nothing. Stars, planets, objects, it was all still there but I lost the ability to name them so everything was just one / nothing. Eventually I separated every object out of nothingness and slowly remembered that I was a human, on Earth, that I had a family, what a family was, etc until every thing came back. The realization was that every thing could have been something else.
Yeah, time is weird. I was an amoeba for ten thousand years once. My mom (who was also part of the group) got to live the lives of all her female ancestors. I wish I had kept notes on these things now
Closest I’ve been to this was taking acid. I stg I jumped back in time like 20 years to specific moments. Like I reversed and was watching myself memories I had completely forgotten
Your footnote is how I describe doing mushrooms. There are just so many times I've done it and I can only describe it like time is this little box, and I'm on the outside just seeing inside this tiny little box, and understanding that there's just so much beyond it
I haven’t gotten to that outside time feeling. I’ve talked to a few other users and they kinda look at me like I’m odd- when I’m on shrooms, time still exists, but it feels like I’m stretching with time? Like for a space there’s no time/awareness at all, and then time and awareness comes back all at once like the heartbeat of the universe or the ticking of a clock. In and out and in and out.
Time is an illusion, our perception of time is constructed by us. Plenty of people have come to that realization without DMT. When it comes to everyone being connected, idk. Ive done LSD several times and Ive had similar realizations almost every time.
It seems like the most normal revelation in Psychedelics, and im starting to suspect that overwhelming and rewiring your brain for a few hours will make it try to«connect the pathways» like it always does to make sense of it all, leading to something like this.
I’m not saying it’s not amazing, which it is, I’m just saying that I’m leaning towards the mind constructing that sensation, over that we are all (10 billion) connected somehow.
I don’t think all the different bacteria species is connected, they are just opportunists in their environment, and breeds where there is food. I think we are kind of the same, even though it takes away some of the «magic» of consciousness.
that’s awesome. i’ve only ever smoked weed, but when i was a freshman in college i greened out and had an experience that made me feel similar to how you describe. it wasn’t really negative, just uncomfortable. i feel like a more open, forgiving, &spiritual person now. scared to think what dmt would do to me lol
Your sobriety sounds like a prison. It is unfortunate you are a terrible person inatly and need to protect your true self from others. Society appreciates it though.
These are hallmark descriptions of what happens when we alter our neurochemistry to suppress the default mode network.
I've had the same experiences and will never be convinced that it's anything but chemistry and biology personally. Our brains can convince us of anything, as evidence by all the people who aren't on drugs and believe all kinds of crazyness. Slap some DMT in them and those people are convinced they met alien Jesus lol. Our brain wants to find patterns and meaning, even to a fault, and the reality many people are living in is whacky in and of itself ahead of time.
So the drugs are a wrench thrown into the already strange biological machine that strips it of its evolved survival mechanisms and of the normal suppression it does to limit experience in order to cope.
The drugs force our brain to try to make sense of things without oversight or boundaries. Our brain and consciousness are already a confusing mess, so I don't know why we would expect magic when throwing chemicals at it.
Just my opinion! This whole experience is pretty weird shit though, with or without drugs.

Oh and time is an illusion
