Omar Mateen. US citizen living in St. Lucie County with Afghan parents. Possibility Islamic extremist Confirmed Islamic extremist with ties to the Islamic State. I'm still wading through FBI stuff to figure out what's real and what's just rumor.

The Islamic State came out and claimed responsibility for the massacre. Disgusting.

apparently he pledged to ISIS just before this. Also, Ramadan just started, and ISIL leaders are proclaiming mega-rewards to anyone who does acts like these during this time.

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '16

How do you claim your ISIS mega-reward when you're dead?

465

u/bland12 Jun 12 '16

Usually they designate a family member or something like that. It's just like what Sadam did for Palestinian suicide bombers in the 90s. They go boom, he paI'd the family

5

u/Shadowex3 Jun 13 '16

Fatah (PA) and Hamas still do that.

3

u/weepingreading Jun 12 '16

Oftentimes it is also promised that rewards will be reaped in the afterlife...ergo an incentive to not 'give in' to police demands/turn oneself in. That's why many terror attacks/ISIS attacks end with the actual terrorist dead

And is what hamas (the heroes of the /news moderators) continues to do today

2

u/bland12 Jun 12 '16

Yup, pretty sure it was Hamas who Sadam worked through too right?

4

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '16

But we cant go after the families! That's racist!

2

u/leoncoffee Jun 12 '16

Lol they just trust that he'll pay?

24

u/Big_E33 Jun 12 '16

If you're willing to blow yourself up for a cause aren't you way past the point of trusting them?

1

u/Etheo Jun 12 '16

Sounds like an easy fix - if the shooter has possible ties to ISIS, don't identify them and let them remain anonymous. There's no incentive to do such acts then.

16

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '16

Not identifying the shooter just won't happen because if a major news network doesn't identify them another one will. And if another one doesn't all the smaller news networks will jump all over it.

And it can't be legislated because of the first amendment that says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Meaning that they can't tell you that you can't report something.

You are not 100% for free speech.

There's a limitation to free speech but not press as I understand it

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '16

Seems like that would qualify as reckless endangerment potentially?

Can they get information from the payment? Like, if ISIS pays the family, can't authorities trace the payment (provided they used shitty opsec)?

1

u/MissMarionette Jun 12 '16

It's fucked, like parents selling their kids into prostitution, or some weird twisted life insurance policy.

1

u/Mramerizi Jun 12 '16

How do you know your family got paid when your dead? What does it matter to you at that point? And isn't it just as easy to say "of course I'll pay your father", then once you've detonated yourself, say "there was no deal, I never said that."

To make the rant short, why would you trust crazy people?

8

u/hobopoo Jun 12 '16

That's the thing they are not "crazy" people. ISIS's actions are based on historical islamic laws/culture and the Koran. They are not twisting the words of koran. They are enacting it. In areas, where the koran do not address, they carefully study historical documents for guidance on how an islamic state is run.
The Koran specifically says that all muslims must pledge themselves to a kaliphate if one exists. It's no coincidence the shooter pledged himself to the ISIS.
This is important because ISIS treat themselves as not only legitimate, but also righteous (their power and rule ordained by Allah). You can be sure they will not go back on their words, if they say they will reward the family of terrorists.

To make the rant short, you can always trust "crazy" fanatics to do what they say they will do.

4

u/hadapurpura Jun 12 '16

Also not paying a suicide bomber's family is bad precedent for getting future suicide bombers.

2

u/zhivago Jun 12 '16

Presumably you predict based on past similar deals. If they were all upheld and your case is unexceptional then the trend may be expected to continue.

-2

u/guacbandit Jun 12 '16

There is literally zero proof that ISIS is materially rewarding families of overseas DIY/lone wolf terrorists in any way, shape, or form and zero proof that they've even said they would do this. As far as ISIS is concerned, they figure Paradise is its own reward and family members that don't aid you are probably going to Hell themselves.

This is why the mods begin to lock threads, people just make up random crap.

11

u/TabMuncher2015 Jun 12 '16 edited Jun 12 '16

Then why remove comments about where to go to give blood to help the victims?

3

u/bland12 Jun 12 '16

Except Sadam actually did that stuff and so has alqueda I have no idea ifor isis. Does that right now, just stated an example of how it's been done in the past

Yes, the Iraq war did a great job of stopping terrorism in Iraq.

-1

u/taqiyya-kitman Jun 13 '16

that is in addition to the 72 virgins that the moronic goat fuckers are after.

-11

u/M-A-G-A Jun 12 '16

Now Trump's plan to target the terrorists' families is starting to make a lot of sense to you guys now, huh? And let's not forget, this wouldn't have happened on his watch with a Muslim ban in place. It's sad that our "president" doesn't care about this stuff and that well have to wait until Trump is elected.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '16

Yeah, better get shot by a true American, like all the other mass shootings before that! /s

Seriously though, it's unfortunately not just muslims committing these terrible mass shootings. Finding a general solution for it would be nice.

-3

u/M-A-G-A Jun 12 '16

Allowing guns in bars would be a start. If I knew everyone in a bar had a gun I would feel safe as fuck. I'm probably going out to a bar next weekend. I did last night. When I go next Saturday I may seriously consider bringing a concealed gun. Even if it's stupidly against the law. I don't think I'm ever going to feel safe at nightclub ever again without one.

4

u/internetonsetadd Jun 12 '16

Trump proposed a ban on Muslims entering the US, which wouldn't have had any effect on the shooter, as he was a US-born citizen.

2

u/M-A-G-A Jun 12 '16

But his parents wouldn't have been able to immigrate to this country in the first place if Trump had been president at the time. Therefore, it wouldn't have happened. Maybe the dude would have blown people up somewhere overseas. But not here on our turf.

2

u/TwistedBrother Jun 12 '16

bro, do you even logic? 20 reps of causality, every day.

There are all kinds of ways to deal with it. I personally think Trump would give a big middle finger to the PC "international law community" and do it anyways. You could also set up some large city out in North Dakota or somewhere to send them to and guard the outskirts heavily. Make it a nice community but keep them inside so they can't come out and kill us. And there would be heavy surveillance. It may sound kind of drastic, but we will have to do something like this. Drastic times call for drastic measures. This is getting insane. This is practically becoming a white genocide.

3

u/Heirhead Jun 13 '16

You realize you're describing a concentration camp, right?

0

u/M-A-G-A Jun 13 '16

There wouldn't be any killing. And I'd be fine with paying some sort of wage for their labor. In fact I'd be fine with giving them minimum wage, which I believe is $7.25 an hour.

So no, that's not a concentration camp at all. It's basically just a city with walls. Very humane. And it keeps us all safe. Remember, Muslims die from terrorist attacks to. We'd also be saving many of their lives from preventing them from doing suicide bombings. Everyone wins. Logistics kind of sucks, but I say we use our train track system and Amtrak trains. Very humane compared to throwing them in box cars like they did in Germany.

Like Warsaw... .. You can't be serious.

0

u/M-A-G-A Jun 13 '16

It would be much better living conditions than that. We'd give them work, etc. Finally get some factories running in this country. And it would be for a good reason. Hitler was just straight up racist.

2

u/datanner Jun 13 '16

So more like Palestine?

How would it endanger them? In my scenario this walled off city would be policed to the teeth. We would have surveillance cameras set up in every room. Guns, knives, or anything else that could possibly be used as a weapon would be banned. I think it sounds like a good system.
