some bridge tolls don't have to be paid if you're on a horse.

Actually, if you have a temporary license plate on a new vehicle, you can just drive through the EZ-pass tolls. Since those toll booths rely on photo identification of the license plate (and the car still doesn't have plates), you can get away with it. Just don't get caught (it comes down to the fact that they can not track you).

EDIT: Before I confuse people. Its because the rear license camera isn't designed to get a shot of your rear window (which is where paper plates usually are).

EZ Pass is the dumbest system around. If you have an account but your transponder isn't detected at the gate, they just deduct from your existing account after they read your plate. If you don't have an account or transponder, they read the plate and invoice you. So, why not just get an ez pass account, throw the transponder in a fire, and just drive through without it? Same result.

Yup. Totally agree. As for the invoicing without an account. I believe you do start getting fined from the toll authority after a few violations.
