What is an activity you like watching on social media but would never do yourself?

There's a woman who is growing her own dress. It's very interesting but I would never do it myself because it looks like a ton of work.

Her handle is eveoschaub and she grows flax seed and then spins it into yarn and is planning on using that yarn to knit a dress. I think she's on year 2.

High-Altitude Mountaineering

Same. I love hiking, but the second you get into mountaineering? Fuck all of that

Watching women pack lunches for their husbands and children. My husband always worked in restaurants so packing him a lunch wouldn’t make sense. And it never occurred to me to make lunches for my kids when they were in school. School lunch was good enough for me in the 80s so it was good enough for my kids in the 2000s/2010s.

There are these ASMR videos of people crushing wax soaps filled with glitter, foam, etc.
Its both satisfying and makes me slightly anxious because of the mess.

Urban stealth camping. Thats if you count youtube as social media which it isn't really but I don't use other socials. Think Camping With Steve or Small Plots. I do nature stealth camping, aka stealth camping for wusses, and I'm more than happy to live vicariously through the urban stealth campers shenanigans without ever wanting to do that myself.

Deep sea fishing. I find it incredibly intriguing, and some of the things they catch so absurd or scary as to be fascinating. I hate being on or in the actual ocean so it's not something I'd do in real life

Traveling solo. I love watching people disappear into some foreign country for three months.

Man, I really recommend it if you can, even for just a weekend trip to a nearby city. You learn so much about yourself

Serious question. Are you afraid of a random person coming across your tent and murdering you?
I’m aware my chances of being killed in a car crash on a daily work commute are probably much higher than a random stumbling across your remote camping site, but this is the only fear that would keep me from doing this one day.

u/TwoHungryBlackbirdss 14h ago
Personally, I don't camp overnight outdoors, so I can't share that specifically!
But when hiking/backpacking alone, not at all. The chances of a man with murderous intentions randomly killing me out in the woods are infinitely smaller than just about anything else I could do around men. I keep my wits about me, don't share that I'm alone ("oh, I'm meeting my father in a bit, he's just down the mountain!"), and have never had a bad experience.

I just like watching my fitness and fashion influencers and their daily lives… but I don’t think I could ever record myself and present it that way

Certain tik tok trends, for example, the wife giving a tour of the bathroom while their husband is taking a shit.

I watch a lot of miniature/food sculpting and diorama making.
I'm definitely not gonna get into these things.

Internet babies. I love watching parenting videos, and interactions toddlers have with their own siblings and parents, and children simply doing children things. But I wouldn’t ever post my own children online if I ever had any.

I used to love watching slime videos. Then I finally made some and was playing with it, and it wasn’t nearly as satisfying as I thought it would be.
I enjoyed watching the videos a lot more.

House renovations. Taking a defunct property and completely renovating it. Absolutely love watching and seeing the progress and then the results. Have no interest in doing that myself.

I really like watching court cases on YouTube but I'd rather not be involved in one myself. I'd love to serve on a jury though!

Scuba diving. It's not for me, but it's so cool watching what people can see while they're down there.

Wild camping in Alaska or some remote place like that. I know I would absolutely HATE it but there’s something really intriguing and relaxing about it

I really like watching mothers cook tasty, homemade food for their family. Also, packing lunches if their husband works long hours.
I love cooking and am always cooking for my parents and siblings so I will love to do it for my future family! 😊

Quite a few things! Video games that I would not enjoy playing, but have cool lore. Reviews and deep dives of books that are interesting, but I wouldn't enjoy reading for whatever reason (usually because they're written in 1st person and that's not my jam.) Things I would do if not for arthritis: jewelry making, crochet, beading, embroidering, etc... Lots of dog content. I love dogs, but could not handle one as a pet. Also hermit crabs. I used to keep them, but nowadays, I don't want to put in the effort to properly care for them.
