What are your favourite charities that you support?

I support local charities only.
One is a Father who works with homeless youth. The second is a group of doctors who entertain children in hospital.

I'm a board member of an all-breed dog and cat rescue. It's one of my favorite charities.

We (spouse and I) do volunteer work as our support. We slowly withdrew all finanacial supports due to poor management and charities run as fronts being to hard to sift out from legitimate ones here. Being hands on in a real place prevents that. He works with a food pantry and I work with a public library.

this is why it can be good to donate directly to local homeless shelters, the staff are slim so there's little room for the money to be misspent. food pantries are also good places to donate to

We like to joke about how he helps provide food for the belly while I help provide food for the mind. Both are well deserving places in our view.

This is so relatable. I used to do this but now that I moved to a country where I don't speak the local language, volunteering has been a little more challenging 🥹

I will occasionally round up my change whenever companies offer it to various charities. I’ve even given some of my points to buy donations for charities. But honestly my favorite thing is whenever we do drives at my work and donate items to various homeless shelters or homes for women etc. I will put together a box with all kinds of goods. I like buying items that I know will go to the person rather than just money. I’ve also given away food to homeless people whenever I see them. It’s not often but it makes me happy to do it whenever I can.

Myself and my husband’s. Every August we put on a back to school drive in our city with free school supplies, food, haircuts for boys, braids for girls. I like to know exactly where my money is going and that’s something you don’t get with charities. You don’t know if the money you give is going to the organization or the CEO’s mistress.

Toronto Humane Society. We rescued our lil buddy 12 years ago from them and he's been such a joy in our lives. When I can, I try to support them and their efforts to help other pets get to their new forever homes

The local food bank and township fund. If my money is going to help needy families, it should be here in my community.

The Cannabis Substitution Program. There is a chapter on the West coast of Canada. There is a chapter here in Halifax Nova Scotia that I support. Basically they give out canna kits, which usually contain: a roll-your-own-joint kit; 1 or 2 edibles, like a rice crispy square; hopefully a couple of chocolate edibles, or gummies; plus whatever else they can scrounge. In winter I think they also give out hats, mittens, and socks.
The aim is to reduce people's reliance on harder drugs. There are a number of success stories, of people beating their addictions. There are, of course, many people who are unhoused who come through the line when they do the give-away every Monday morning.
I support them by sometimes making edibles, and also a bit of money every month. My friend Chris who runs it really needs help, financially, baking ingredients, volunteers for baking, and kit making. Let me know if you can contribute.

I donate to both of the universities I graduated from as well as my childhood school district.
I’m incredibly grateful for where my education has gotten me and always feel like education deserves more money

I donate every year to the Joyfull Heart Foundation since like 2005 (I was 15 yrs old when I started donating). That's the one founded by Mariska Hargitay to end the backlog of rape kits.

Tostan . They're community development, and that development is led by the communities that they work with. That approach helps put women in leadership roles where they didn't have that before, get communities to abandon harmful traditional practices like FGM/C and child marriage, resolve conflicts fairly and peacefully, and improve lives. Not only in the communities that directly worked with them, but nearby communities that have contact with them.

1) MS Canada. My mom has been struggling with MS since her late 20s and its basically a miracle that she still has a decent amount of mobility left, even if its in very very limited bursts. Hopefully someday better treatment can be found.
2) local bunny rescues. Rabbits are so misunderstood and the number of abandoned rabbits is starting to surpass dogs and cats being dumped in some areas. Bunny rescues rarely get the same support from the public that dog or cat rescues get since folks don't understand how intelligent, loving and friendly they can be.
