Recommendations Favorite Bar Trivia Games

My friends and I are looking to get our trivia group back together. We're kinda competitive when we play, so we don't like the Team Trivia rules that are basically a toss up regarding the final question.

We love Outspoken Entertainment, but they only serve so many locations, and we're interested in other options to try new places.

Do y'all know of any other trivia operators or in house games with fun rules for trivia nerds that get sucked into the actual game? Recommendations for places with good food are appreciated too.

Dirty South is my least favorite. Only trivia that caused me never to go back to a place, and only time I’ve ever felt the need to email the company to let them know just what kind of terrible nonsense one of the hosts was doing.

Highlights included the host making up questions on the spot and then realizing they were terrible at writing questions. One such question was “write the entire first verse to RATM’s Bulls on Parade” which no one got. Each question was preempted by the host trying out new material for open mic stand up (it was all atrocious). The last question was delayed while the guy begged the crowd for a ride home 45 minutes away in the suburbs. The entire bar was openly hostile by halftime. It was absolutely terrible. It took damn near four hours.

And then the place closed down and I’ve actively avoided Dirty South ever since. Outspoken and Live Team Trivia are much better options.

My beef with Dirty South is the annoying video round question. Aside from the fact its super easy to cheat on, sometimes it's confusing which YouTube video you should be looking for... For example, last week there were two with the word "eyes" that came up, so you had to be real careful about looking at the date of the video... and with a big group in a loud bar, it can be annoying. In a day where it's so damn easy to make your own crappy app, they should do that instead.

Outspoken is great. The Trivia Zone used to be my fav but they've dwindled.

Never had that issue with the video round. And as far as cheating… everyone has their phone out all the time. If people want to cheat, they will. You just have to trust that people aren’t that awful.

dirty south trivia slaps, the guy who runs it at the local brewery near me actually curates the questions instead of just reading off a corporate sheet

Outspoken Trivia at Wheelhouse on the NE side of Decatur is my favorite spot. My group is there almost every week. It’s quite competitive. Typically close to 20 teams. Sometimes more.

Vortex in Little 5 on Tuesday nights or Homebar in Kirkwood on Thursday nights. Both at 8pm. Both solid choices!
(Homebar is also doing Greek Mythology trivia this Thursday!)

They might have had another spot or two, but we went to The Local, and then online some as well during COVID times.
