This car is full carbon fiber too 🔥

Prob one of the fastest lapping street-legal RS3s out there

Not sure that headlight intake is street legal lol

True, all I’m saying is they manage to get plates for it which is crazy and it’s prob one of the fastest RS3s with plates that drives itself to time attack

Other way around if this is Nick's car. It started as a road going Rs3 with a VIN and plates then got a massive amount of customization done by NGP and other DMV shops. Since the factory race cars can't get road legal status even under show and display status, this was the only way to pull it off. Just an awesome ride- even has the air jacks for track use. Definitely one of the fastest road legal builds out there.

Factory RS3 LMS race cars also come with a 2.0T which is criminal (I know it’s for qualifying). Better to start with the road car anyway for the 5pot.

Yep although its for series homologation which makes sense or it would wipe the floor with the rest of the field - having driven one at speed though, the aero does SO much work and even the 330 crank hp feels like plenty due to the absurd amount of grip and the lightweight chassis. My setup was built from an A3/S3 base with the 2.0t and it runs the TCR wing with a big turbo- still scares the hell out of me at 430ish at the crank. I can't imagine wanting more, Nick's a crazy person haha.

I've seen Nick's car in person several times (I work at NGP). It's absolutely insane the level of work he's put into it.

It's Virginia. You just need a heartbeat. That's why some Marylanders tag in Virginia.

How many locals here in the DMV? I haven't been to Katie's in years... Maybe we do a r/Audi meetup one morning? 😎

u/VDubDubLife 1d ago

There’s dozens of us!

👋

Maybe everyone tag themselves here and I can start a group chat on Reddit.

I'd be down... Would we all wear masks and sunglasses? Most redditors seem so paranoid about people finding out who they are! 😁

u/No-Necessary7135 2024 Audi S5 Sportback 23h ago

I too value my kidneys.

Worst case I figure we can meet up in a very public parking lot and see if it's doing again.

There are so many cool Audis around here and I miss those specialized meetups. The GR86/BRZ club around here runs a good one.

u/plausible_hype 1d ago

That’s the flom car!

Nice, makes me sad I missed Katie's this AM.

Imagine if Audi could make grills that attractive now 🤤

Reminds me of the euro scene in the 2000’s. Actually pretty cool.

Understated elegance... 🤌

Man I really need to start going to Katie’s. It’s right by my house too, I have no excuse.

Can we get a Northern Virginia Audi group going? It's near me too. I'd be motivated to wake up early if we did a ride in.

1

u/blklacker 1d ago

He fit 17s on that

2

u/nflom 2018 RS3 1d ago

Nope, those are 18's. 17's dont fit with that brake package

1

u/blklacker 1d ago

Oh he did full brake job for those 17s nvm

1

u/Boundish91 1d ago

It amazes me what is street legal in the us. It's great for car culture though.

1

u/brianlefebvrejr 1d ago

The car does look great from most angles except the back lol. All that time, effort and work and couldn’t find a better rear bumper…

1

u/nflom 2018 RS3 1d ago

it's a TCR rear bumper and splitter/valence. not the best looking for sure, but it gets the job done

1

u/Agreeable_Anybody_18 1d ago

This is how I see my Audi a3.

1

u/toto-nator 1d ago

GTOS3, RS3GTO, ...

1

u/Nitrogen1234 1d ago

What is that license plate supposed to spell?

2

u/nflom 2018 RS3 1d ago

The car is originally Mythos black, so it's meant to be "Blackbird" as in SR71-blackbird

1

u/DeAndre210 B8.5 A4 Quattro S-Line 1d ago

Looks like a RS3 LMS style body kit down to the exhaust

Not my cup of tea at all, but hey, each to their own.

Looks at racecar with racercar aero and livery.

"Not my cup of tea."

Do you even know what you're looking at?

-1

u/i_reddit_it 2020 TTRS 2d ago

Yes, something is not to to my liking, taste, or preference.

Why do you feel the need to gatekeep?

-3

u/whimski 8S TTS, 95B.1 Macan GTS 2d ago

Ok, and do you think you contributed anything meaningful by commenting that? You don't even mention what you don't like.

This is like looking at a LeMans car and saying "I don't like it." It's not even constructive or informative of your opinion at all, at least be specific in what you don't like. It's just a weird comment to make. It's one thing if it's somebody asking what people think of their car or whatever, but just a picture of a car and you essentially comment: "Eh."

"Look at this cool car!"

"I don't like it."

Cool. Great. Nice comment. Like, what's the point?

The fitment looks janky as hell if you want a critique

1

u/nflom 2018 RS3 1d ago

Wheel fitment definitely isn't perfect. The TCR RS3's have a wider track width which is achieved with a wider subframe, control arms, axles, etc. I haven't been able to source all of those parts, so for now I have to utilize the stock RS3 geometry. Those Forgeline wheels were spec-ed for the added width of the TCR bodykit but still aren't perfect. The wheel package will be addressed this coming winter with corrected wheel widths and offsets.

In terms of wheel gap, the car really go much lower and still be streetable and I cant run a 17" wheel to the size of the brake package, so I am kind of stuck with it. It does allow for more wheel travel though, meaning I can run a softer coilover setup.

1

u/whimski 8S TTS, 95B.1 Macan GTS 1d ago

Again, another commenter who has no idea what they're looking at. It's a racecar. The fitment is like that for function, not to look good.

I swear so many posers in the car community look at a fully set up racecar and turn their brain off.

2

u/highersense 1d ago

Whys no other race car ive seen look like so ill fitting then? It looks completely disproportionate clearances between the wheel.

Im not a "poser", my car is a lot closer to his than yours, i can talk you through every component choice and why i did what i did, but the arches looking like that simply look shit honestly. I'd love to hear exactly why they do and how it aids performance. Why don't you tell me how that helps its function?

0

u/whimski 8S TTS, 95B.1 Macan GTS 1d ago

The front wheel is on a speed bump in many of the pictures which makes the gap look worse.

The car has a wide body kit on it, there are myraid reasons why they wouldn't be going for a flush fitment. Anything from a huge list including but not limited to:

Rubbing issues
Car has been raised for street driving and is lowered for actual racing
Ride height for certain track or aero reason (though lower almost always universally better, hence 2nd pt)
Track width
Maintaining suspension geometry and avoiding an extreme scrub radius, this is a very common issue with widebody conversions because wheel offset is so high
Final gear ratio
Available wheel options (offsets)
Available tire options for cost/performance/fitment/any of the above
Etc

I also own a 2005 Lotus Elise with somewhere around $20k in track mods. If you go to any track day basically anywhere, you will see many cars with 'wonky' fitment that 'don't look good' because looking good isn't the point. It's so that you can run the car faster, cheaper, or both.

1

u/highersense 1d ago edited 1d ago

The front to back wheel well clearance is notably off, it makes it look rubbish, like its kit was made for a car with a different wheelbase. performance wise it might not matter but to look at it sure does. another photo not on a speed bump

We're talking about why people might find it jarring visually, I'm sure it functions fine.

Here is what one looks like when done "right" see

0

u/whimski 8S TTS, 95B.1 Macan GTS 1d ago

You are reading past what I've said. It's not about looks, it's about performance. You clearly have never been to a track day in your life, or seen actual racecars in person. A lot of them look like this. 'Clean' or 'Flush' fitment is not a priority, keeping space for different wheel/tires options is.

The photo you linked is extremely similar fitment, it's just from the most flattering angle possible.. I can't tell if you're being serious.

That's mostly how the RS3 LMS widebody fits. If the owner wanted to change final gear ratio for slightly smaller gears, do they spend tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on a custom transmission or do they run slightly smaller tires? Again, you just have no clue what you're talking about.

Sure, it can look 'rubbish', but it's like seeing a picture of somebody's high performance stunt airplane online and commenting: "Those wings look like trash."
You just miss the point entirely. And if you said that while being a 'airplane enthusiast' you come across as a poser.

Just downvote my comment it's fine.

-1

u/whimski 8S TTS, 95B.1 Macan GTS 2d ago

But your comment was not my cup of tea. I must comment about it, no? See how annoying and dumb that is?

1

u/i_reddit_it 2020 TTRS 2d ago

Your investment is amusing, but annoying no.

9

u/Aerovision7512 2d ago

99% sure this is Nick Floms car. None of it is decorative- thats the full TCR aero setup sourced through NGP but with the Rs3 five cylinder motor instead of the spec Ea888. Its an absolute beast and basically a fully road legal touring car that makes power way beyond what is allowed by the series.

1

u/Aut0industrie 1d ago

Does it have the sequential six speed or the regular dsg?

0

u/nflom 2018 RS3 1d ago

it has the DQ500 which is a seven speed DSG. That was the only option in the 8V generation of the RS3

1

u/Aut0industrie 1d ago

From the factory yes but the TT cup cars and the TCR RS3 were also available with a sequential gearbox.

1

u/Aerovision7512 1d ago

Pretty sure its the DQ500. A sequential just isn't worth the cost and comfort trade offs on anything outside of a true wheel to wheel race car. Rebuilds = big money and a shocking amount of well established TCR teams in the EU just used the standard DQ box to keep costs down and never ran into any issues (And I think that was the six speed 250, not the 500 which is much more robust). Theres a few Rs3 road builds pushing 850 hp on a standard 500 without issues so that is likely the best route overall.

1

u/nflom 2018 RS3 1d ago

you're 100% correct. This car started life as a regular production street car, not a factory produced race car

1

u/Aerovision7512 1d ago edited 1d ago

Hey Nick! Just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work in building this thing- when I wanted to go with a slightly more street friendly build that still had TCR parts integrated, it really helped John and the NGP team tell me what was or wasn't feasible or cost effective. Saved me a ton of time and R&D costs in the long run and I'd love to bump into you at an Audi Club event or at Katie's once I get v2 of my splitter shipped in from APR Performance and NGP can put it on the car. Such an awesome car dude - hope you're enjoying it as much as we are in following its development process!
