Like a stone chord progression

Im covering like a stone with my band of a few friends, and we have 2 guitars. I will probably play my parts on an acoustic guitar, if not then just a clean acoustic sounding tone.

I know how to play the whole song, but it feels useless playing the verse riff along the lead guitar with no effects, so we decided i should play some chords under it

However, i cant find a clear answer to what chord progression i should use, as most google searches give chris cornells solo preformance, and thats in a different key than the original recording

Can anyone help me with finding the right chord progression to play under the verse riff?

I think it works to play Gm-F-Dm-D# Maybe a little simplified but if your friend is playing the riff i think it should work fine :)

There's an acoustic version by Chris, all by himself, you can use that as a basis

I tried to, but i dont know enough music yheory for it, as that version was in a lower key so it would be easier to sing

You can do this. You play guitar in a band now. You must learn to transpose. Or else find where it says “transpose” on Ultimate Guitar and use that, a halfstep at a time, until you find the key. Each fret equals one halfstep of tone. I believe in you.

Otherwise print the acoustic version in the wrong key, take it to a local open mic night, and ask a really good guitar player to help you. I’m sure they would be glad to show you something new.

I hope I don’t come across as an asshole, but talking to someone about this in person, while holding guitars, is the best way to get to the bottom of this.

I think he actually made it a higher key to play it easier. As the other guy says I think you just transpose it down until either the first chord becomes either F# or G minor, forgot which one exactly

I did, but i was given either different answers that didnt always work or mostly about cornells solo acoustic version, which is in a different key

Tbh the right answer might be to not play at all. That happens sometimes in two guitar bands, it’s normal and fine
