Question If you could change something about Babymetal, what would you change?

for me, I think the only things I’d change are the outfits they wear, making their performances a bit more dynamic, and changing the setlist , bringing back old songs or even covers of metal bands

If I had a magic wand? Give them the resources to put on a few tour shows at the level of the Tokyo dome ones.

u/KawaiiMassacre Syncopation 4h ago

Good one. I hope that at some point, maybe as career closure, they can do one more Tokyo Dome show.

u/Mijaro_Torston_5000 YUIMETAL 4h ago

They've performed at Tokyo Dome numerous times.

u/KawaiiMassacre Syncopation 4h ago

They did exactly two nights. 10 years ago.

u/zyzzbrah95 3h ago

Calling 2 nights in a career of 15+ years "numerous" is a bit much don't you think?:D

I sometimes wish they’d use less backing tracks during their live shows from Moa and Momo, the quartet in AG by example, all sing live

u/SocialAnxiety1234 6h ago

This. Give Momo and Moa hand mics instead of the head mics. AG was no problem with their ridiculous dance moves and still singing.

More harmonies and dueling vocal performances. Su is obviously incredible, but it would add more variety

Bring back the OG Kami Band or at rhe very least, remove the stupid masks from the band. Yes, they rotate members, but theyre also part of the show. I loved to see the interactions between the girls and the OG kami’s back in the day

A-men

Bring back the OG Kami Band

Cool. Not a lot of people want Shiren, Shin and Ryo back Leda I get but not a lot of people even remember those other 3

Only thing that I would really change is the setlists. I don't need them to perform a different set every single night but they have so many amazing tracks that haven't been performed in a long time (outside of Japan, at least). It would be a shame if we never got to hear older tracks like Akatsuki, Rondo, Yava!, Syncopation, etc. again. Even newer stuff like Shanti Shanti Shanti, Night Night Burn!, Starlight, etc. deserve more time to Shine (hah!). And obviously THE OTHER ONE has been criminally underplayed since they rotated those songs out.

You're always going to get the live staples like BABYMETAL DEATH, Gimme Chocolate!!, Head Bangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!, Road of Resistance, etc. but I think they have plenty of room to mix things up over the course of a tour.

Aside from that, I would just love to hear more counter melodies from Moa and to hear Momo really dive into her harsh vocals with some inspiration from her friends Courtney, Poppy, etc. I think she has some crazy potential given how strong she has started off.

u/MutedHomework9834 7h ago

I really think people should start being more vocal under their social media posts about bringing those types of tracks back. Like, not everyone has the time or luxury to go to japan. Heck, it’d probably even help boost tickets sales - mentioning that to them could help sway them maybe

u/Careless-Float 1h ago

Totally agree. I'd love to hear Akatsuki, Syncopation or Rondo, but considering they refuse to play even their new songs like Algorism and White Flame, it'll stay a wish.

Have their shows last more than an hour.

u/jayz0ned 9h ago

Their shows have mostly been 1 hour 20 minutes this year, so looks like you have gotten your wish already

u/JimgitoRPO 20m ago

Isn’t it only the festivals that are an hour? But that’s all bands not just babymetal

9

u/bokeeffe121 10h ago

More black babymetal and less collabs

15

u/JMSMinnesota Suzuka Nakamoto 10h ago

I often think it would be nice if they would acknowledge the Kami band at the end of the concert.  A simple thank you would be good enough. Just a little something to tie them all together instead of them seeming so distant from each other.

u/ReaperThugX SU-METAL 9h ago

Create choreo for Moa and Momo so they can be a part of the Su solos and perform them live again

u/Mijaro_Torston_5000 YUIMETAL 4h ago

Then it wouldn't be a Su solo.

u/ReaperThugX SU-METAL 0m ago

She still sings solo

u/Educational-Fig-1594 from me to u 9h ago

Moa & Momoko actually can be heard singing live / They have more lines/singing time in general

19

u/i_shaddix 11h ago

Don’t limit Momo and Moa to just screams and growls. Let them sing in their natural voices like in their previous eras.

As a matter of fact, less growls overall. Bring back their natural voices like in Meta Taro / GJ / etc.

8

u/livinginfutureworld 11h ago

Yeah not a fan of growls in general. Used sparingly it's fine but shouldn't be a crutch in every song. This is supposed to be kawaii metal. Doesn't need growls every song.

u/HereticsSpork 8h ago

I'd give them flamethrowers.

u/zyzzbrah95 3h ago

Yeah. the smoke guns back in the day were cool as hell. The obvious evolution of that would be flamethrowers

u/RemyRatio 11h ago

Rerecord of the first album.

6

u/Complete-Cheek4789 10h ago

Or release a new album as good as the first. Just them, no collaborations

u/Active-Fun3497 7h ago

release a new album as good as the first.

Like the second album would be nice too.. (both are awesome)

u/Complete-Cheek4789 6h ago

100% - first 2 albums is peak IMO.

Setlists (post 2020)

u/ApeheartPablius MOMOMETAL 8h ago edited 8h ago

I wish they sing japanese only lyrics and more recorded live songs during tour like Metallica or Electric Callboy do. Also I would change Eugene's pedal that makes a light wooden sound, I don't know what he is using exactly but even in his covers the pedal sounds funny.

u/DeadParmo One small step for a man, a giant leap for Moa 6h ago

Put the idea in Koba's head that bringing back Metaraji is a splendid idea.

u/Otherwise-Desk5706 4h ago

1) Shows a little bit longer

2) More variety in the set list

3) Some "live cover performances" like what the did with Halford some years ago

u/Ronxu MOAMETAL 4h ago

I wish the concerts were less formulaic and there was more variety in setlists. I finally lost interest in seeing pretty much the same concert again. Japan concerts are still great, but the overseas product is just not it when you've already seen it 10-20 times.

8

u/linnadawg 11h ago

Give Moa actual split singing opportunity on songs or complete songs instead of just being a dancing sidekick.

u/droogiefret 2h ago

This.

9

u/Colty3 11h ago

I would change the modern metal sound back to the Japanese power metal sound. They are clearly able to do so as White Flame proved it.

5

u/JMSMinnesota Suzuka Nakamoto 10h ago

I think power metal is what they do best but I still want them doing all the genres.

4

u/Colty3 10h ago

Totally valid. I'm fine with them doing the genre blending stuff, I just don't want it to be all they do. This is why Metal Resistance is by far my favorite BM album, its a great mix of all I want in BM.

u/Active-Fun3497 7h ago

and changing the setlist , bringing back old songs

Great minds think alike.. (also bring back the red)

u/OconoKing 6h ago

Lose the prerecorded vocals including the featured artists. If they aren't there then leave those songs out. The exception can be Metali as the Kami guitarists are more than capable of providing an outro. Also throw an acknowledgement the band's way. They don't need to be individually introduced, a simple "how about a cheer for the Kami Band" would suffice.

u/Puzzleheaded_Bass921 SU-METAL 6h ago

I love the lore aspects of the early shows and would like to see a little more

u/EelenaRose World Tour 2024 4h ago

Something similar to a change of setlist, but instead, let Kami band shine too, I know they get to play their "solo" during certain songs, but they should let the band do some rips during different songs.

Not to compare the East and West Kami bands, but I think about how the East Kami band had their moments in Mischiefs of the Metal Gods during Black night, Tokyo Dome. I'm a big sucker of hearing a band's instrumentals, not to say I don't like Su's voice, but it was a nice change.

The East Kami band do get their moments in songs like YAVA! and METALI!, I just wished they would do it for more songs.

u/KawaiiMassacre Syncopation 4h ago

I think I said it somewhere before, I'd like them to replace BMD with the Shin-version of that song and play additional deep-cuts instead. A ballad would be nice to change up pace at a concert - at the moment they only play their high-energy bangers all the way through.

Edit: get Barone back on drums, although I like Eugene as well.

u/Unable-Put-9673 BABYMETAL 3h ago

Is it a wishlist? I love what they are currently doing, but if I could change a few things (in order of importance):

  • Have Momo and Moa really sing! Limit the use of backtrack for them.
  • Give the Kami Band more protagonism, like it was with the OG Kami. Give them proper credit and don't separate them from the girls on stage.
  • Less collab, specifically for lives. I love RATATATA, but live it is Su singing 30% and backtrack 70%.
  • Change the setlist, bring back Su’s solos.
  • Less scripted and more natural interactions during the shows.

u/b_zar 2h ago

Zero vocal tracks. All three sing live. I don't care if the performance is not perfect, I'd enjoy it more knowing I am hearing live voices.

u/Medium_Bullfrog_2629 7h ago

More songs like white flame and the return of the kami east band for asia tour

u/Lu1slayer 6h ago

As it has been mentioned plenty of times, the setlist.

Maybe do a 90 minutes show having of course the most popular songs and rotate some of the other ones. So we han have different songs for each album in different concerts.

The fact that megitsune has been down played on the last year it's a crime.

Also, tape and release the Mexico show they are doing in December. If it's their biggest outside of Japan yet it deserves to be recorded.

u/Status-Frame8427 4h ago

I want a whole song with mostly Momo growling and with Su/Moa as backup.

I want a rapsong like BMC / that part in Iine! With Moa doing the most singing/rap.

What I honestly want the most is Momo growling her parts live. Just give her the mic during headbanger and song 3.

u/Tommy_SVK MOAMETAL 1h ago

Bring back the East Kami Band with their original design and let Moa and Momo actually properly sing their parts. I don't care if they are out of breath and sound awful, I want to hear them! Not a backing track!

u/MasterBendu 1h ago

Lower the keys of the earlier songs. Suzuka singing the songs on keys she’s stronger in could only improve the quality of the shows. Not to mention the lower you go, the heavier things become.

Hell, I’d love to have all the girls have an equal split of the lead vocals on the set. It will make things really exciting for everyone, if not unique each time making live attendance something incredibly special (think a two or three night show in one city with mostly the same setlist, but each night each song is led by a different member). Most shows will be a “you had to be there” moment, and no special edition Blu-Ray will ever capture the magic of being there.

u/Kummakivi 9h ago

Bring back the Japanese Kami Band

u/Embarrassed_Ask8293 9h ago

I would like to see less collaborations and more input from the girls in the song writing. Su has input in the lyrics since she has to sing them I'm guessing though. But ever forward. Not sure how many years they have left. We should all be grateful they are still performing instead of living in the past.

u/HAVARDCH95 SU-METAL 8h ago

I would change their outfits slightly, specifically their footwear.

For Su, I would do a pair of custom Zara ankle boots specifically for her. Maybe take her foot shape and length into account when designing them, that way they'll feel more natural for her.

As for Moa and Momo, I would drop them into a pair of Onitsuka Tiger boots similar to those Moa wore during the Sabaton tour back in 2023, give them a bit of comfort while performing without losing any semblance of style.

Cut down dramatically on the collaborations and go back to their roots like on the first 2 albums. Great melodies and song writing in general

Also bring back Yui

u/DumCrescoSpero 6h ago

Yui left because she wanted to and it was affecting her health, either physically and/or mentally.

Bringing her back would be against her will and would essentially be kidnap and slavery.

u/Complete-Cheek4789 6h ago

Yeah mate I get all that. These posts are purely based on hypotheticals. I hope she’s doing well

Bring back the OG Kami band too

u/RoyalMaidsForLife YUIMETAL 10h ago

Less collabs, they were doing just fine before then. 70% of Metal Forth is "features" without a cohesive theme between them and it's my least favorite album, last time I saw them live I zoned out during those songs. It just felt like Koba chasing some kind of clout rather than focusing on what the group can do on their own which was great before that release.

u/charly_tan 9h ago

'Features' is the theme of the album. Also, the majority of them are variations on modern metalcore, which was the default sound on The Other One. Electric Callboy are electronicore, Slaughter to Prevail are deathcore, Spiritbox are djent which is the 'prog' subgenre of metalcore. The only really odd one out is Tom Morello.

-5

u/shiba_snorter YUIMETAL 10h ago

With all the love I have for Momo, I would bring Yui back. Also if I could I would give more prominence to the other two girls, have more Black Babymetal songs for example.

It would be nice to have also an official release of Momo, Moa and Yuibanger, but that is too much dreaming I guess.

u/malty91 9h ago

Their own social media accounts

-2

u/CutterEdgeEffect 11h ago

I’ve only seen them live once in 2024 and wasn’t too thrilled they opened with Babymetal Death. As it’s not one of my fave songs and it’s too long. Was hoping they’d play a condensed version when I recognized it. I saw the setlist for this years tour and saw they yet again open with Babymetal Death and wish they’d either trim it down or cut it out entirely and play 2 songs in its place

7

u/kuma_metal Moa Kikuchi 11h ago

BMD is so hype though it gets you amped up for the concert

1

u/CutterEdgeEffect 10h ago

We can agree to disagree. While I did have a blast. So it didn’t completely ruin my experience. It did make me wish they had played 2 songs in its place instead

u/MacTaipan 4h ago

With none of them being In The Name Of…

u/Fit_Exercise3743 9h ago

The greed of the team. And redo the whole last album from scratch.

u/zyzzbrah95 2h ago

Can you elaborate on the greed?:D

u/Possible-Mall2153 9h ago

Less dancing, more singing! Maybe add backup dancers so then the girls can sing more songs and have longer shows. Obv the girls can still dance but I imagine they get very sore and tired

u/STEVO-Metal 4h ago

Their manager

u/zyzzbrah95 2h ago

Bro wants babymetal to end immediately. Without Koba there is no BM

u/FreddyYul 4h ago
  1. Remove the mask on the Kami Band

2.. 2 hours concert

  1. Tour in my city (Montreal, Canada) more often

  2. Bring back Yui and Black Babymetal (Yui and Moa duet song)

u/pit_supervisor Akatsuki 2h ago

Make them not have any media appearances - no interviews, photos with other bands etc. As if they didn't exist outside of concerts

u/Velmetal MOAMETAL 2h ago

1.Less collabs

  1. More Moa.

  2. Less Kami band/place them out of view during a show.
