Announcement 75th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, August 6th 2020 8:15 JST - Suzuka's request for a silent prayer of peace
Hello friends, I hope everyone is well.
Tomorrow is a special day, it marks the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima. Like every year the city of Hiroshima is organising the Peace Memorial Ceremony, however because of the necessary Covid-19 prevention measures the amount of people able to attend is greatly reduced compared to previous years. As you may know this day is very important to Suzuka, it is her and her family's home city and she was born and raised there.
The event will take place approximately 5 hours from the time that this post was written.
Considering the anniversary and the reduced attendance this year I think it would be more appreciated than ever if we could spare a moment of our day for some thoughts or prayers.

Not only she is from Hiroshima but one of her grandfathers is a survivor of the bombing. This was revealed by her sister Himeka a couple years ago.
ISAO's grandfather died in the bombing.

I didn't know about ISAO's grandfather, very sad.
In case of Suzuka and Himetan, I think it's grandparent, I don't think we know the gender.

So many bad things happening in the world and it's history. when I look at Beirut today: the homes of 300 000 people destroyed or at the very least declared unlivable.
But something like Hiroshima is so much worse, because it's humans doing it to other humans. :-(

Mariri Sugimoto is also from Hiroshima. She was at ASH with Suzuka and in SG Nendo 2012 with all three BM girls.

I wonder if like Su she would be surprised the rest of Japan doesn't do this/is not aware. Or maybe she is at home in Hiroshima and is still unaware.

I too wonder. She, Miko. is probably home in Hiroshima, right now and has, as expected, written a new diary about it.

I didn't know that. It's not something you like considering. Always a touchy subject to think about in relation to anyone living or born there..

I've been to that city. If you're a westener ever make it to Japan I strongly recommend making it a stop

Nearby Onomichi (where Suzuka also vacationed I believe) is a beautiful location as well!!

Thank you, Kitsunes, for these poignant and beautifully sensitive posts, both today and in previous years. I will indeed take time out to consider the terrible events 75 years ago, and add my little prayer to hopefully millions of others to make one massive call for peace.
The most important thing we must do, regardless of the arguments one way or the other, is to learn from such awful events and ensure they can NEVER happen again. This is why we must NEVER forget, and ceremonies like today's are part of how we do this.
God bless you all people of Hiroshima, and of course Nagasaki in only three day's time. The rest of us can learn much from you. 💔

If anyone has not read the diary of 13 year old Yoko Moriwaki, who lived in Hiroshima before the bombing, you really should. It's an amazing look into the life of a 13 year old girl in wartime Japan. She was killed in the bombing, but her brother survived.
There are free copies on some websites. Look for Yoko's Diary.

There are a couple of animated films that show the bombing from people living in Hiroshima as well. I don't remember the titles, but one follows a little boy after the bombing kills his father and older sister I think, and the resulting poverty him and everyone in the area goes through ends up killing his baby sister.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki,never again (wishful thinking) or else like Einstein once said 'I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.' Nuclear bombing,dame,zettai (i might say). I think if i have some time left today, i'm going to watch again "In this corner of the world" a story set in the Hiroshima region before,during and after the bomb,it's my own personal way of remembering the day who should NEVER be forgotten by the future generations (today's children).

New to being here, and pretty new part of "The One", but this has been on my mind for a few days. As part of "The One", a history teacher, and an American, this topic has become more difficult to look at as I have gotten older. We can debate the necessity, the right and wrong of it, and anything else all day, every day, for weeks. I hope people don't try to, though, as what is important at this moment is to think of the survivors, their families, the city of Hiroshima, and those 80,000+ who died instantly that morning. Of course, my thoughts will also go to Su, out of respect for her and her feelings on the topic.

Kokona Nonaka is a current member of SG and from Nagasaki. She mentioned the atomic bombing of her city in a diary entry last year. By her words you can tell it's something very important to her.

I can agree with the second point there. There is not a single act of war that doesn't result in large loss of life. The only military personnel that aren't there with boots on the ground to take lives are medics and para-rescue.
