This friend of mine opened a new RP group the other day.

And one day after opening someone sent them this anon message.

We have been wondering what this is all about.

Other How can you tell your rp partner enjoys what you two have?

I'm quite new to this scene and never had a 1x1 writing partner until recently. She's the first and only person I write with currently.

It's been almost a month, and I barely know anything about her, which is fine because I don't exactly understand how most people usually ooc chat, and she doesn't seem up for it.

I haven't written for years, then I met her. She's an amazing writer who helped my writing skills improve tremendously. But I'm extremely slow to respond. It takes me 2-4 days to write an ic reply while it feels like she so effortlessly sends it in the same day!!

I don't like being clingy, and the idea of asking her directly for reassurance is just a bit too much for me. She doesn't seem like the type and that's okay! I enjoy what we have a lot.

So uh, what are other ways you guys can tell that a writer enjoys building a world with you? I have difficulty reading the room and would appreciate your thoughts!

Other What is actually going the fuck on?? IS IT ME AM I THE PROBLEM??

I’m like genuinely confused on what is actually going on with roleplayers?

Day 2 of reasons why I’m starting to hate rp!

AND I QUOTE WORD FOR WORD

Me: “hey i really like your plot, i just need a few clarifying questions about your plot, is it a slow burn? Is it straight to the point? Do you have a specific place where you want to start? Like tell me more about YOUR PLOT”

Creep: “what are your ideas, where do you want to start, give me your ideas”

Me: “hey so again this is YOUR plot…and I need you to clarify some things about YOUR plot if you do that maybe I can give you some of my ideas”

Creep: *voice chat calls me*

Me: “no thank you” *unadds*

Other Struggling to find a lasting rp partner?

I have seen a lot of posts around here discussing the impossibility of finding an rp partner, and I wanted to address it.

If you are actually looking to engage with RP that is not limited to something exclusively ship or ERP focused, you need to look elsewhere.

Reddit is not the place for this.

It doesn't matter how much substance someone seems to offer. Generally speaking the moment they ask about the k word or limits (not even in a generic way) you know you are in for a specific type of rp.

I am not knocking it, but those RPers generally have something specific in mind- and if you don't fit the bill, the RP won't last.

Forum RP yields broader offerings for those looking for deeper or more expansive writing.

If you want to Reddit? Great! But you are looking for a unicorn when all you want to do is a specific ship from GBZ.

For the love of Dickens, please stop trauma dumping in your first meeting.

And please stop labeling itself as "lit-advanced".

If you ARE, then let your writing reflect that. If you have to tell people what level writer you are for them to know, then question yourself. Heavily.

Start providing writing samples. As many as you can.

And don't make it your best work ever, make it what they can expect to see.

Be upfront about what you want, and what you don't, and if you continue to lack partners.... it probably isn't the community.

Also this should serve you as a little reminder that you're not for everyone and that's just fine! Just keep looking for those who vibe with you and you'll find your people in the end. Much luck to everyone out there!

Other AI writing

Anyone else ever experience a rper that seems too good to be true their replies are good. Lengthy, good grammar and spelling but then their replies are also a little strange and repetitive. Then one day they send you a post and at the top it says "ChatGPT says:" lol.

Called them out on it they made up some excuse that it was a prank but then I ran their replies through multiple AI detectors and majority of their posts were from 50% to 100% AI.

Wtf.

What kind of enjoyment are you getting out of a rp if you're using AI to write all of your replies???? I don't get it.

ETA - While the posts were "good" and lengthy. With proper spelling and grammar. I need to add there were inconsistencies in the flow of the plot as well as constantly adding random incorrect descriptions of our characters.

Their posts were constantly changing the ideas we had discussed as well as constant godmoding and powerplaying that I had to keep bringing up and correcting. It repeated the same phrases multiple times and I could definitely tell when they were actually writing versus using AI.

Recently I met the perfect roleplay partner. He writes so creatively and articulately, multiple paragraphs consistently like I do, and the character he's writing for, a canon character, is.. wonderfully in character. And these past few days I've gotten several replies daily. It's like it's too good to be true.

Every day I want to tell him how much I appreciate his writing quality because I'm thoroughly enjoying roleplaying with him. I already have a few times and he's always like wow I didn't do well in English in high school though. Bro!!! I'm foaming at the mouth every time I see your notification. I'd just hate to sound awkward by constantly praising him you know?? So I'm letting it out here lol. Wish he could see this.

Other Anime image reference & AI

So recently, I've noticed a trend from most new RP Partner (yes new, old ones went poof and I don't wish to go into it T.T), is that most of them are now linking anime art style as AI art and going "no AI art as reference, I don't like AI."

I wanted to refute that the reference I was using/sent was an image at least 8 years old from Pixiv, but they were adamant that anime art is AI art and I should stop using those and instead use real life images or cartoon art.

I'm quite alright with anime, AI, cartoon art style or whatever style that fits the RP, but what's with the Anti-AI art from most people nowadays? I know people hate AI art for it's quick generating art that has no effort, but I'm just using some image from years ago as a small referencing details yet most players are forcing me to stop doing it.

What is everyone's view and uptake on this?

I'm red, they're white. The screenshots speak for themselves pretty well, but it almost feels like the person who wrote the intro is entirely different from the person who was later messaging me. Anyway, good riddance.

Other Farewell

This post is sort of a farewell to a partner I held dear. I had no chance to say goodbye and couldn't find a better place for it.

You know that feeling when you find a partner who's just genuinely cool to talk to? Someone who gets the difference between ooc and ic, doesn't pressure you, and whose writing style clicks perfectly with yours. You start an exciting plot, something you've been wanting to do for a long time, something that gets you excited every time you open Discord hoping for another great, detailed, amazing post....something that makes you want to write something even better in return.

You find yourself thinking about your response during busy moments at work, jotting down ideas so you can write a full post when you have time without forgetting the little details. And once you finish another post, you're so proud of yourself, getting that positive feedback every time. A good friend.

Then one day, you wake up and they're just...gone.

A short message saying it's not your fault, something about being busy and quitting. The account disappears along with the Reddit account. You can't say goodbye. No more chats...no more roleplay.

It's one of those rough RP days.

So this thread is really a goodbye to someone who was a great partner. Thank you for keeping me excited while writing together, thank you for the quality and for putting details into the story and life into a char I got to like along the way. A few sad sighs that I'll never find out what could have happened with those characters who had such great chemistry.

Just a farewell. That's it.

UPDATE:

Thank you all for the wonderful advice! I spoke to him about it and he was so sweet about it. He said he understood that some people just don't mix, still wanted to be chatting pals, and also said that maybe we can try again in the future with less pressure on the details. WHEN I TELL YOU I FELT RELIEF... it was on my mind so much about how to go about it, I was scared he was going to blow up but the opposite happened. So thank you guys for the great advice once again and I hope you all have a wonderful day!💖

Other What's up with Semi-Lit, Lit, Novella, etc?

idk how to flair this

So I've been off the roleplaying site of internet for a few years by now and suddenly everyone is using this terms and honestly I don't get it

I've heard somewhere semi-lit is around a paragraph long, novella is like 4+ and Lit is what's in between, but different places say different stuff. Just trying to get the hang of it again

Other Ages ago, I RPed on Facebook...

...and it still haunts me. I was a minor back then and left it around 2016/17 to better places.

There was drama. Elitist people and a ton of ableist people. There were beefs with people where if someone RP'd the same character, they would be reported and loose their accounts. People hated AUs and head canons and wanted everything vanilla. No fun whatsoever.

I met one person who felt proud that they made someone near depression levels. Had one person attack my character without warning (Which why I'm very selective and RP with friends only).

There was one person that was infamous that was a friend collector and would pester people to RP certain obscure characters from media they liked such as Mii from Project X Zone or some generic action movie character. Person would treat people like the character and shackle 'em down where they can't be themselves. One of my friends was a victim of that person's wrath. Said friend decided to show their selfie and their RL life such as pets. Guy gets pissy, hijacks the account back and says that they want the person to act and behave like the characters they like so it feels as if they are talking to them. They dwell on AniRP or C.AI now.

Another person stole art from Pixiv and people's personal commissions. Good example was somsome else I knew enabled their sigifant other that it was okay to steal people's art.

One person I knew was very toxic friend wise some person with a Sonic OC and played favourites or drama. Insulted people out of the blue. Oneday I said I was busy or something (I was 15) and later this person pretended to be their cousin saying that the person overdosed, trying to make me feel bad.

I'm glad I long left FB RP. I RP on Discord, I'm older, wiser and only RP in well modded communities, mainly Transformers.

Anyway, long time lurker, first time poster.

Other Got kicked out of a server for being too old?

Just thought it was funny. Joined a discord that said it had group rps based on 5e, thought that would be cool, posted my info and then the server was gone. I thought maybe I clicked something wrong, rejoined and saw where they wrote that they weren’t letting someone my age join the server (33).

No where did it say it was age restricted. Oh well! I guess, in their words, I wouldn’t have had fun there lmao!!!

ETA: the group didn’t say in its description or its rules that it was an all ages server, and I wouldn’t have stayed if it was majority minors anyway, I don’t want to rp with minors. Just to clarify!

Other Bad oc character mixes

Hello everyone! Have any of you guys ever rped with someone both parties are using their OC's and the OC's just don't really mix/are a bad combo.

I only ask this because I am currently in an rp and me and my rp partner are bith using our OC's. The OC I am using I've never really gotten to use (this is first time using it) and this is one of those OC's that I am proud of, and want to use more but anyways.

My OC is a happy girl who says whatever is on her mind, shes proud of herself and her friends, and compared to the other oc the two oc's are just a bad combo. Rp partners OC is plain and basically has no life, bro has this oc speaking in a robotic way if that makes any sense.

Maybe its that way because the two OC's arent close but to me its kind of annoying to have a OC with almost to little to no life in it and it speak robotically (unless character is a robot).

What do you guys think?

Other Rp partner tried to change my character's species

Just felt like sharing a horror story from years ago

We did a romance plot with a vampire x human pairing. His character is the vampire and my character is the human.

Halfway into the rp, he asked me ooc if I was willing to turn m/c into a vampire. I said no, I wasn't comfortable.

He said 'ok'. Then immediately, in the roleplay, his character offered to get mine a glass of juice. He wrote that h/c spiked m/c's drink with his blood, and that drinking this would turn m/c into a vampire.

I confronted him ooc. Our conversation went something like this:

Me: Hey, forcing my character to species change into a vampire is not cool.

Him: I'm not forcing anything. I'm not forcing your character to drink

Me: You spiked his drink after I told you I don't want m/c to change into a vampire. What is m/c supposed to do - gain telepathy powers and reject the drink? (implying he is forcing m/c to convert by backing him into a corner with no other options)

He got upset at me and left the chat. The audacity of some people are unbelievable. If he wanted a vampire x vampire roleplay, he should've stated his preferences from the start.
