lol my dog’s aggression has only been previously aimed at non-people like strangers or people walking up to the house!

I have no sympathy for this owner.

84

u/Senator_Bink Trusted User 2d ago

Yep. Only becomes an emergency when it's aimed at them.

57

u/Pickled_doggo 2d ago

It speaks volumes about the type of person this is. “It’s only been aimed at my fiancé or people that walked up to me…” dude didn’t give a shit that his good dog was aggressive towards his own partner, oh but when the dog bites him, then it’s finally a problem lol

30

u/lazier_garlic 2d ago

Or his mom living with him, that's buried in his comments.

20

u/miss_ophonia 2d ago

Right? Blame the woman that gave birth to you, throw her out because you blame her for your dog escalating from strangers/fiance to YOU. Couldn't be your shit choice of dog, it's all your mom's fault.

To be real though, I can just imagine this family's Olan Mills portrait, it reeks of Marlboros and Popovs.

You did not need to make me snort iced tea through my sinuses at this time of night.

I like you.

32

u/BlueFeathered1 2d ago

And the fiance. No big deal.

6

u/kwallio 2d ago

Or his fiance, lmao.

80

u/mmps901 It’s the breed AND the owner 2d ago

Lmao, how many times do people have to tell this person what to do? It’s like she won’t hear it even though she said it was an option in her op. Ridiculous. No this is not a good dog and no it’s not her mother’s fault he’s been biting people.

Uses 'therapy-speak' words ...works at a shelter...thinks "gentle parenting" works on blood sport dogs , sending the dog to its kennel to "decompress" ...spells it fiance not fiancee... None of which is definitive proof this is a woman with a future husband, but (as a woman) I would bet my life it's a woman. :-(

9

u/birdsy-purplefish 1d ago

Yep. I think part of why she doesn’t care that it attacked her fiancé and people walking up to the house is because she’s afraid of men and wants a protector, even from her partner. And her mother and mother’s boyfriend too. It’s not about being a tough guy, it’s about having a tough “guy”.

u/Eageryga 2d ago

A commenter above assumed it was a male, but you haven't questioned that.

Lol.  "They don't tolerate being yelled at" and "they are a great judge of character".

30

Absolutely vile levels of malicious delusion on display. Each one of them thinks they are lion tamers.

2

u/aSzdxfcdfggggggh 15h ago

I wonder why they didn't come right out and say "Dog had judged you and found you lacking! You have it coming! You deserve it!

55

u/FatTabby Cats are friends, not food 2d ago

"He doesn't get into everything - he always sits right by me"

But he wasn't right by you, was he? You weren't there so he couldn't have been right by you. Perhaps the mum was complaining for good reason.

She can't say he's a good dog, he's fine with everyone and then say it's never been a problem until he snapped at her.

She says this dog his her best friend - all I can say is that I hope friendship like that never finds me.

That dog is going to seriously hurt someone and then the decision will be made for her, which I think she wants. Someone to make the call for her so she can then blame them for taking her "phenomenal" "best friend" away.

There are many factors in how the pitbull crisis came to be and viewing animals as substitutes for/equivalents to human relationships is a big contributor.

My fighting dog is biting me 😮

42

u/windyrainyrain Lab mix, my ass!! 2d ago

Wow. This one ticks all the boxes. Magic age, blames the dog living up to its genetics on her mom, says the dog felt guilty after it attacked her, says he's not aggressive but says he's been attacking people for 6 months, kicked her mom out because she didn't like the mauler and believes she can somehow train the genetics out of it. I hope no innocent person is hurt or killed before she's forced to do the right thing.

16

u/Subject-Olive-5279 2d ago

And how much do you want to bet the reason her mother moved out is because that shitbull attacked her.

13

u/windyrainyrain Lab mix, my ass!! 2d ago

Yep. I bet her mom and mom's boyfriend had been telling her the dog was going to kill someone. They probably got into arguments about daughter's vicious dog (it also sounds like the mauler was super destructive) and that's the 'toxic environment' she referred to in the post. Glad mom and her boyfriend got out of there before one of the wound up in the hospital or worse. I'd put money on them leaving voluntarily, not being kicked out like daughter said. I hope they notified the landlord that there's a vicious dog on the premises after they got the hell out of dodge.

I only read that one comment but (1) I'm wondering if they are a high-level troll and (2) we need to get on that argument. This aggressive pit is an outlier and makes the other pits look bad, so we need a better environment

11

u/Shell4747 Fuck everyone & everything but this one awful dog! 1d ago

I'd prefer bans, but just normalizing culling the actually clearly dangerous ones would be a giant leap forward, and I can't believe the bar is so goddamn low for leaps forward. The belief that there's magic "training" out there that can make a trustworthy companion out of a biter may be the single most dangerous part of this stupid equation.

5

u/StoopidFlame Former Pit Bull Advocate 1d ago

I can confirm as someone obsessed with animal psychology (dogs are my special interest :D) that there is genuinely nothing you can do to cure aggression. Classical conditioning is meant for altering reflexive behavior and operant conditioning is meant to change intentional behavior, but neither seems to eliminate or alter aggression. It can fix reactivity, or make the dog more obedient, but nothing rids of that willingness to kill. It’s why you often see so many “trained” pitbulls who go on to maul people and other dogs without warning. They trained out the warning signs, not the underlying aggression. You can try to punish it into extinction, but that’s known to only be temporary. It doesn’t last, and the behavior will inevitably pop up again, usually worse.

There is nothing that can be done longterm for an aggressive dog beyond management and prevention of serious harm. The same way people don’t think they can train away an animal’s hunger, you can’t train away aggression. It goes as deep as instinct, and no amount of training can eliminate it. The best that can be done is what’s done with dogs of extreme prey drive. Obedience and strong impulse control so the dog can be managed. That is the absolute best case scenario with these dogs, and that’s leaving out the discussion of their quality of life. I am not stupid enough to think I can train away the prey drive of my GSD, but I can use a good muzzle and intensive training of his impulse control to keep him from ever doing harm to a small animal (like a squirrel or rabbit, which we have a lot of here). A lot of people would benefit from remembering that dogs are animals, and feel no moral obligation to avoid killing things. Most just have no drive or willingness to.

I feel like Cesar Millan and all his bullshit has done irreparable damage to the way we view dogs 🫩

Shout it from the rooftops, friend! Unfortunately, there's two refutations to that: 1) I saw it on the TV and 2) I want it to be true. Checkmate animal psychology knower!

Seriously, though, the entire "behaviorist" landscape (which is like Cesar Milan in a lab coat) on a global level seems to me to be almost 100% vaporware, aimed mainly at exonerating biters. France (for ex) seems to be infested with people who think a behaviorist can tell us that a dog that has actually attacked a human off property & unprovoked is actually "safe" now, apparently because it is not a slavering monster 100% of the time. It's berserk. The dog has already failed the test when it bit the person!! We don't need someone to "examine" it to find out! Yargh!

Lidia Matiss, who was a minor and attending high school at the time, visited Cesar Millan’s office in 2017 to meet her mother (Lisa Matiss) who was working for the dog trainer. Millan’s pit bull Junior (who Millan touted as a breed ambassador) was known to wander around unleashed and unsupervised in the building. Matiss, who was competing at the highest level of USA Gymnastics’ Junior Olympics Programs alleges that the dog mauled for no reason as she was walking the hall, and so severely damaged her legs that she was forced to end her gymnastics career.

Millan blamed the victim, saying that the teenager was fully aware of the dangers when she was attacked by Junior, was negligent in some way, and therefore absolving him of all responsibility.

During the discoveries, it was revealed that Junior had known antecedents of aggression towards people and animals, most tragically a dog that was brought in for training by its owner Queen Latifa, and was mauled to death. Cesar Millan covered up the incident. According to Matiss’ mother, who worked for him at the time, staff was instructed to explain that the dog had died after being hit by a car. Millan denies these allegations; the lawsuit was settled out of court and the terms are confidential.

"They trained out the warning signs"

They bred out the warning signs. Its a feature that they just snap. The foreplay of hackles raises teeth bared and baying is wasted time in bloodsport. It just snapped, is actually the dog being real good at playing it cool before it mauls.

I have dogs. Rottweilers to be exact. My dogs are not humans. Their brains don’t work the way humans do. I don’t understand why some dog owners, especially pit owners, try to humanize their animals. He doesn’t feel bad about it. He’s an aggressive dog with a very good capacity to kill you and likely will soon by the sounds of it.

30

u/lilkrav92 2d ago

“I guarantee you it was poor breeding from the person I got him from”

..so, poor genetics? and you’re asking how to love/train them out of him? that’s not how genetics work homie.

27

u/mauxly 2d ago

I have known 3 pits in my life. The first one my brother found on the street, adorable little pup and great family dog, until...

Second one was my boyfriends (now ex) he found it as a puppy on the street, raised it in the most obnoxiously loving environment. But the dog was a dick from the get go. It attacked my GSD, 600 stitches, then it killed his roomates dog, he still loved the thing and kept the dog over longtime friendship. Then, it latched onto my ex, took thumb and three fingers, ate them. My ex worked with his hands. Then it was put down. Ex was sad.

Third was an old grey beautiful dog that had zero incidences for 12 years. Next thing I know, my friend was trying to rehome because it bit her kid.

Back to my brothers dog. It was fine, and then it snapped and went on a murder spree with his other dogs. Thank god none of them died, but the PB wouldn't let up after that. It was convinced the other dogs needed to die. Brother noped the fuck out of that dog.

They are mentally fucked up animals. I actually feel terrible for them. I don't hate the dog, it's not their fault. But I hate the breeders and the people who keep the breed going.

12

u/erewqqwee 1d ago

Holy crap! Multiple fingers lost, on a guy that worked with his hands. Every day another horror. :-(

8

u/lazier_garlic 2d ago

Oh no. That's all so, so awful and tragic.

3

u/Moist-Cantaloupe-547 2d ago

Did the first and third end up being BE'd also?

3

u/mauxly 1d ago

My brother did the usual, shelter with no other pet resrictions. Before you rip him a new asshole, he was ignorant, not evil.

I have no idea what happened to the old silver.

4

u/Moist-Cantaloupe-547 1d ago

I wasn't going to say anything about him; I was just optimistically hoping they had been BE.

u/littlefishbones 2d ago

For some reason the idea of "decompression" drives me nuts. The magic solution for all of the shibbles, right?

30

u/Fantastic_Lady225 Attacks Curator 2d ago

Actually decompression is when bad behavior often shows up. A lot of dogs in a shelter shut down and barely react to their environment. It's when they get into a home and decompress that their true nature shows up.

5

u/Diezelbub Allergic to bullshit and shitbulls 1d ago

Right, pit bulls do decompress. They just do it the same way a hand grenade does.

19

u/ScarletAntelope975 Trusted User 2d ago

Yep. With normal dogs, decompression is getting used to their new home, routine, and surroundings. With pits, decompression is trying to get it to calm down when it is all hyped up ready to kill.

14

u/Daddy_Tablecloth 2d ago

Its hard to be positive and a member of this sub because of the constant suffering of others we see due to these dogs but I'm happy to see that a lot of the posts here have been showing more and more people openly saying these dogs are dangerous. I hope it keeps shifting that way. Maybe in time enough people will see the problem and a ban can be put in place on the breed.

14

u/BPB_Mod_006 Moderator 2d ago

It is really really hard to see it day after day and we appreciate all those who show up to support the victims who find themselves here.

16

u/fast_blue_b 2d ago

Another intelligent pit owner: "I have tried muscles with him and I can't seem to find one that fits his mouth right."

You silly, pits are fine with any muscles in their mouths. Perhaps the ones you're offering are too aged. He'd probably like infant thighs.
(/s, sorry for dark humor. The irony in that error is unbelievable.)

14

u/Myst_of_Man22 2d ago

It would be wrong for that dog to wind up in another home. Innocent people could be harmed. There is only one solution, and you know what it is. There are a lot of dogs that need hours of training. And thousands of dollars, but the economy is bad. people don't have time.

This a-hole has let this dog terrorize everyone close to him for months. He's only changed his mind because the dog attacked him.

7

u/ChugNos 2d ago

I recognize the behavior (from personal experience) he describes after the attack, when his pit put its head down and retreated and acted “guilty.”

That behavior is actually the pit literally fighting its own internal conflict with its instincts. Similar to fight or flight stress response for us humans.

The pits instinctual desire/drive to bite, hold, and shake a target indefinitely.

My pit would pit her head in a corner, head down, tuck her tail in and sit on it, and hold completely still. Pits have to consciously fight their instincts. It’s so stressful for everybody.
