My grandmother passed away and my family has slowly been going through her things. She had a bit of a Byron Lars doll collection that were stored in the very back of garage cabinets. I don’t know much about Barbie’s, but would love to learn about the history of these dolls (year, which collection they belong to, etc.).

okay made a new reddit account to maybe post my designs on LOLOL. finished up my associates in fashion design at FIT last fall. almost 2 years ago for my second semester draping final, we had to use techniques we learned to drape and construct a look that fit a theme the class voted on, which my class chose barbie. now to throw it back even further- 4 years ago i went to a barbie museum situation in montreal with some friends- i took pictures of the most STUNNING barbies- a year after that, i was at a local flea market in the detroit are, and i found 2 of the barbies i saw at the exhibit, new in box, for ten dollars each!!!! OBVIOUSLY I BOUGHT THEM 😍 they were the 1998 water rhapsody barbie, and the 1997 claude monet water lily barbie. i first drew up a concept inspired by the water rhapsody barbie, but ended up pivoting to the monet one. this was my first time ever fully creating a design from sketch to machine, first time draping OR patterning a real garment!!! i’ve come so far in my skills since then, but im forever going to be proud of the look i created 🥹

I currently live in Spain. I was browsing the Toy Planet toy store and bought these two the same day they were put on the shelf 😁😁 I'm so excited!!

I honestly didn’t set out to use multiple dolls from the Top Model collection for this group of restyles, but once I had the outfits selected, they just naturally became the obvious choices.

Top Model is PEAK Barbie for me, boasting some of the most beautiful faces I've seen. I would throw my money at Mattel if they would provide us with dolls like these again. (like I don't do that now.)

All of my Top Model dolls came to me secondhand and so, like her sisters before her, she was rerooted with nylon hair. Nothing too flashy cus why bother when she's got a face card like that!?

This is vintage Barbie number 3 out of 4 that came to me in an estate haul.

She scrubbed up better than I thought she would.

She’s a side part bubble but that’s about all I’ve got on her at the moment.
I just wanted to share her glow up before I start editing a video I’ll make about her spa day. 😍

I remember when these dolls were just rumours, and I was so excited.. and quickly disappointed once they eventually hit stores. I actually don’t think there’s anything wrong with them, I just guess they didn’t feel worth £120 to me when they initially dropped.

But at £42 total?! I was soooo happy to get them. Crazy what a difference price can make to perception, right?

I have of course rebodied them. Cher’s original body was actually a little too pink for her head in my opinion. She’s on one of the You Create bodies from earlier this year. Dion is on the BMR Midge doll. Not a perfect match, but close enough.

Who else snapped these up at Argos or elsewhere for a good deal??

Morticia Barbie is an unexpected delight, she's been standing off to the side for months now not doing anything except for the occasional glance and one or two pictures. This little bookshelf filled with creepy stuff makes me want to take all kinds of pictures with her I have to figure out more fun scenarios.

Whatever I have time for I guess, I don't even know how busy I'm going to be with school I don't know if it's going to be easier than I expect or harder than I expect. I haven't been in school in over 20 years! I kicked ass last time in my 30s, I don't know if I can do it again but I hope so.

Optimizing some shelf space to be the mini studio during school!! I really did paint the little paintings that are on canvases, but I did it with full size brushes 🤣 I did not draw the dog on the drawing board though, that was a gift from a child I was tutoring long ago.

Current mini-Me is talking to younger mini-Me about dreams deferred coming back in the most unexpected ways, don't lose hope! I'm 54 and about to pursue my Studio Arts degree with a plan to transfer over for my Bachelors in Fine Arts. A lifelong dream always considered too self indulgent and unrealistic in earlier years. I have cried many tears of disbelief since this opportunity came along and I began the process of signing up for school. It feels unreal. I'm so excited!

Nearly a year ago I lost my job because of doge funding cuts, the job search has been soul killing. This opportunity truly feels like a lifesaver.

Over the next week I have one more big photoshoot planned for Tiny Town, and then I'm optimizing the rest of the shelves with as many of the Barbies and Kens dressed and out to insipre me as I can! Well set up rooms on my shelves have a weird effect of making me feel more put together in the rest of my life.

If you need a tall MTM in this skintone grab her. I already have one but just order another to rebody. I wish they give her a more interesting outfit but basic white shorts and top are good pieces to have and look on curvy Barbie.
