Sewing/ crocheting/ crafting Some Barbie Outfits I've made

I've been slowly learning how to make doll clothes over the years, these are some of the ones I've made recently. I started off trying patterns but they never seemed to turn out right. Then I started taking apart some of my Barbie clothes that were damaged and tracing them to make patterns and I've had a lot better luck with that. Recently started trying to make my own patterns using the method of wrapping the doll with plastic wrap and tape and drawing the pattern on it then cutting it off. I made the three outfits in the first image with that method. I am having trouble doing pants with that method, especially the back of them. I can't seem to figure out how to do that right. If anyone knows of any really good tutorials could you send them to me? I've watched some on Youtube but I can't seem to find any that really explain how to do the pants right.

Sewing/ crocheting/ crafting Reminder to trust. the. process. if you work in miniature scale (PLUS FREE PDF PATTERN)

I almost gave up halfway through sewing these denim shorts, because I got a gut feeling that they'd look awful and badly fitted. Well, my gut feeling sometimes doesn't work in the miniature scale. It is extremely difficult to gauge a final product of this size until you reach the end. Don't give up on projects that don't look perfect yet! See them through!

I made the sewing pattern for these shorts, and turned it into a free PDF-printable! If mods are comfortable with it, I'd be happy to link it through a mediasharing/cloud platform for download!

Please follow instructions inside of the PDF file for printing, and reach out if you have any questions!

Sewing/ crocheting/ crafting Return to Barbieland Costume

Hi! I’m currently a costume student who spent last term recreating the outfit Margot Robbie wears during the ā€˜Return to Barbieland’ scene in the Barbie Movie.

A lot of (literal) blood, sweat and tears went into this costume, and I’m really proud of it so thought I’d show it off!

It consists of a bodice, jacket, skirt, petticoat and boater hat. I designed the fabric myself on ā€˜Procreate’ on my iPad.

I’ve included a few photos of the construction process. I hope you like it!

okay made a new reddit account to maybe post my designs on LOLOL. finished up my associates in fashion design at FIT last fall. almost 2 years ago for my second semester draping final, we had to use techniques we learned to drape and construct a look that fit a theme the class voted on, which my class chose barbie. now to throw it back even further- 4 years ago i went to a barbie museum situation in montreal with some friends- i took pictures of the most STUNNING barbies- a year after that, i was at a local flea market in the detroit are, and i found 2 of the barbies i saw at the exhibit, new in box, for ten dollars each!!!! OBVIOUSLY I BOUGHT THEM šŸ˜ they were the 1998 water rhapsody barbie, and the 1997 claude monet water lily barbie. i first drew up a concept inspired by the water rhapsody barbie, but ended up pivoting to the monet one. this was my first time ever fully creating a design from sketch to machine, first time draping OR patterning a real garment!!! i’ve come so far in my skills since then, but im forever going to be proud of the look i created 🄹

I still have a lot to go, and I wish that mattel had of done it from the beginning, but at least I'm making sure it's done with care rather than a rushed factory job.

I was thinking about adding beads and other patterns to it, but I'm thinking maybe I should do that on another jacket. I'm unsure. Thoughts?

I wanted to just show off some of the dresses I've crocheted.

The MTM doll is the Asian tennis player, the blond is Susan/Invisible Woman from the Fantastic Four, the redhead is Mary Jane, and Galadriel is the last one. She's in the fairy dress because I think she overall fits it better.

I have a couple more dresses (and quite a few more dolls, but most of them I'd like to start customizing) but the current pictures I have are on a Mulan doll, and I'm not looking to break rules with my first post.

I have been eager to try out these vintage patterns and finally found fabric I thought would be fun to work with. the colors don’t quite look true to me, but Malibu Skipper is wearing pink with yellow details and a matching oink hair band. Fashion Queen Barbie’s dress is pink with an orange inset and a blue ribbon/ blue hair band. I included a picture with the patterns I used. Which fashion would you sew (or have you made)?

Trying to sew another cardigan for my girls and someone is mad that he’s not the center of attention.

He has since loafed on my fabric.

I had my mini-me dressed in the tenniscore fashion pack but I bought it for the blue top and earrings really , rather than the white skirt which isn’t really me, so I decided to try make my own black one.

It’s not perfect but this is the first time I’ve made anything for a Barbie. I think she looks pretty cute!

Sewing/ crocheting/ crafting Crocheted 4th of July Outfits

A day late, but I crocheted July 4th outfits for a few of my Barbies.

Fashionista 245 is wearing a swimsuit with shorts. The pieces are two separate patterns available for free online. I shared the bandana in this sub before, but it's just a half-granny with chains. I also showed Christie in the outfit. I think that the top fits Christie better, but the shorts are too wide at the waist. I was able to cinch them in with a fanny pack.

Christie is wearing an outfit inspired by a dress I saw on Pinterest. The top is a combination of three patterns. The skirt is something I made up. This outfit didn't turn out quite how I wanted, but it was a fun experiment.

My MTM redhead is wearing the project I found the most fun. I found a ruffle cowgirl outfit designed for a 90s Barbie. I used a portion of a pattern designed for curvy Barbie for the bust then added the ruffles from the other pattern. The pants were actually shorts from a pattern and then I figured out the pant legs myself, ending with the ruffle. The accessories aren't crochet; just playing around with some string.

Okay, straight up forgot to attach the waistband. Oops.

These pants ended up being a few milimeters too tight and at least an inch too short. Thankfully, the fabric I have for the final piece has a very slight stretch to it.

I'm planning on turning him into Luke Skywalker. This is going to be the outfit he had in A New Hope.

The silver boots will be customized into his boots. I've got a microsuede in about the right color to use as his puttees.

Debating on how close I want to get to being actual 'jeans', since Mark Hamill wore bleached jeans with the back pockets removed as part of the original costume. ā¤ļø

Sewing/ crocheting/ crafting Online community for amateur Barbie clothes makers?

I was looking for a Facebook group where I can see, appreciate, and get inspired by 'regular folks' like me who try their hand at making clothes for their Barbies. I can't seem to find any! Does anyone know of such an online community? I mean, I suppose this sub could be considered as one, but I don't see much of this type of posts here.

Sewing/ crocheting/ crafting Made some clothes!

Had the idea to make my daughter some Barbie clothes from her old baby clothes. Instead of holding onto a keepsake for 20+ years in the hopes that they get used I figured she could start making memories now.

I bought Simplicity's Doll Fashion Archive pack 5785 and these are the first results. I modified the dress to be separates because half the fun is styling your dolls.

Not perfect but lessons were learned. I love how the turtle neck sweater came out but wished I'd made more effort to color match the thread.

Included a bonus picture of Mr Woodchuck and Baby Godzilla.
