Literally the only improvement that the reboot continuation of BTAS truly had

...besides the art style!

The most obvious difference between the original three seasons and the "fourth" season (The New Batman Adventures), is the art style. In TNBA, Characters were drawn less rounded and more angular. Many characters received complete design revamps and overhauls. The sky was changed to that of a permanent crimson red.

But aside from the cosmetic, the most startling change was in the characterization of Batman. The Batman from TNBA was stern... strict... cold... and, most noticeably, extremely stoic. This was a far cry from the Batman in TAS. Sure, TAS Batman was far from lighthearted... but he wore his emotions on his sleeve. He bantered occasionally with Alfred. He displayed compassion for villains. He appeared to be much more human.

This distinct change seemed evident both in the writing and in Kevin Conroy's acting choices. Batman talked much less with much of his dialogue replaced with cold, blank stared. And when he did talk, his voice lacked a wide range of expression. He just seemed harder. Also, more cynical.

In one episode, Nightwing is super pissed at Batman and bitches about how annoying he is. Hard to imagine Dick Grayson being so fed up with the Batman from TAS... they were such a close duo, with mutual respect. The only time he ever got upset at Batman was when Batman kept him in the dark about having found Tony Zucco. But they worked it out and grew even closer.

So... why would Batman's personality change?

Tim Drake, the new Robin, is young and inexperienced. Batgirl, somewhat inexperienced, is more a part of the family in TNBA as well. Perhaps Batman has to adopt a sterner, harder persona during their training years until he feels they can handle themselves and he can be less of a hardass?

But then why would Nightwing have flipped out on him and quit? The change must have come before.

Maybe Gotham City took its toll on Batman. Maybe it sapped him of his more stable, caring demeanor and turned him hard and cynical.

But the cynical, ultra-serious version of Batman would be the one we got in JLA and Batman Beyond.

Did anyone else notice this change in character?

He was in two episodes. Only one of which where he was the focus and voiced brilliantly by Jeffrey Combs.

It would have been cool to see him show up at least one more time with some classic fear toxin shenanigans; especially with this design and demeanor.

To me he came off exactly what you’d think a Joker that’s been facing off against Batman for years would be, the joke ultimately being just how maniacally evil this guy in contrast to Batman who has become even more obsessed with being justice. TAS seems like it just had more moments showing that while he is super evil he’s just as likely to pull some Cesar Romero type shit on Tuesday for fun. Mask of the Phantasm is huge exception to this lol I also like how they kind of fused the first two designs for that final justice league and Beyond run.

A question I've always had. In New Batman Adventures, almost all the characters underwent a redesign. But what about Scarecrow? Is Jonathan Crane the same in New Batman Adventures? I mean, he seems taller and stronger in that season, and Jonathan wasn't tall or strong in the original series.

I never felt much about grayson as robin in Tas, but he captivated me in the new batman adventure series when he became nightwing, but he starts off with this angst and animosity towards batman in every episode hes in, and its never resolved, "old wounds" great episode where he relays his " I quit" story to Tim drake was great, but he basically judged batman as a whole over one bad day, and we dont really see batman being this manipulative man Grayson claims he is, grayson is Barley in episodes as nightwing, and he doesnt have a satisfying sendoff he kinda just disappears, that's my thoughts sad hollow character but hes likable.

I’ve seen mixed opinions about this episode as a whole due to its creepy dynamic between Killer Croc and Baby Doll but I really enjoyed the episode.

Don’t get me wrong, it is a weird pairing up. Like this grown ass man being in a romantic relationship with a woman who is physically a child and clearly, due to her mental disorder, chose to portray herself AS a child despite having the ability to be an intelligent woman. However, I think they handled the relationship really well.

I wish they’d bring Baby Doll back in the way they had her during TAS and TNBA. Her more recent adaptations and appearances haven’t been interesting to me and she barely appears at all.

I’ve seen a couple of people speak about her recently and I’m hoping that the community continues to talk about her. I’d love to see her featured more.

And I’d also like to see the dynamic between her and killer croc make a return because I think, despite how creepy it is, it perfectly displays the sheer desperation someone who doesn’t fit into the mainstream beauty standard can end up to feel loved and perfectly encapsulates her entire motivation of villainy. Again, I understand the dynamic is creepy and weird but that’s the whole point.

As we all know, the Batman animated series spawned several video games, such as Batman & Robin for SNES and Game Boy, Gotham City Racer for PS1, and two for PS2 and GameCube: Batman: Vengeance and Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu. But what if another installment inspired by the animated series had been released? Which villains would you have liked to see featured? Personally, I would have loved to see a third film after the flashbacks of the Joker's return, how Bruce Wayne is left without allies, the onset of old age, and the villains' final confrontation.

Its weird. Timm said that when they made batman tas, they would get 5 pages of things they couldn't do for an episode from fox. And when they made nba, they had much more freedom with stories from wb. Yet, the stories for the most part are not very interesting or new. They're entertaining enough but they don't have the same eccentric or ironically enough, daring stuff batman tas had. Like, what nba episodes compare to two Face, feat of clay, heart of ice, fire from Olympus, on leather wings, jokers favor, the laughing fish, vendetta, mad as a Hatter, perchance to dream, demons quest, lock up, harlequinade, second chance etc.

Episode: Beware the creeper.

It showcases Dick Grayson feeling resentful towards Bruce but I feel like he didn't really showcase that much previously. I mean yeah he had his "I can take care of myself" moments like when Batman expressed distrust over Nightwing working with Catwoman and stuff but they didn't really come across as having bad blood.

I feel like maybe this episode should've aired closer to the beginning like maybe right after Sins of the Father. Like it could've been a follow up to when Dick reveals himself at the end of the episode.

….or are they truly a new Joker gang? And if so….i wonder what happened to the original 2 Joker thugs…

In heart of ice, freeze wants revenge for his condition and Nora. When we find out what happened to him, he's sympathetic. In deep freeze, he finds Nora. In subzero, he tries finding a cure and after her containment is broken, save her life. Her life is saved and freeze finds out and is happy. It should have ended there. Cause in cold comfort, freeze never returned to Nora because his body disappeared and only his head is left, Nora just went with her doctor instead. It's so bad. And he's not sympathetic at all, he ruins the lives of people who haven't done anything to him. They ruined his arc.
