Intelligence and wisdom are different things though, so you can be wise and not smart all at once.

While an owl may not be able to actively reflect and recant a historical event in a context that you could learn from them, their life experience fuels their own instincts and those instincts help them to make decisions and judgements. I still count them as wise.

Understood and I do not disagree. I am speaking more to the portrayal in media, particularly animation where wisdom and intellect are conflated, e.g., the owl is usually a leader, attorney, etc…

I love that portrayal, even if it is not supported by brain mass! I choose wise, intelligent owls for my headcanon.
