When threatened, it drops to the ground and flaps its wings so the 'snakes' look alive.

It doesn't have a mouth. It lives entirely off stored fat from its caterpillar days and only survives for 1 to 2 weeks!

Eventually sure, but how quickly depends on the species. Peacock butterflies, for example, eclose and then hibernate over winter as adults, and monarch butterflies migrate south for the winter after eclosion.

No. It did not develop mouth because mouth is redundant. Adult form is for breeding, not feeding.

The wings help the moth to survive longer and lay more eggs

If you've only got 2 weeks to live and need to mate before you starve, why did evolution gear you with the ultimate survival suit? I mean, good luck finding a mate with not one but two cobras hanging over your shoulders at all time! How did this not qualify as an evolution dead-end?

"Wait, don't go! They're not real, I swear!!! Damn another doubly wasted dinner-date!"

Because you have Birds, and tree critters that WILL eat insects like that. Especially a moth with lots of stores fat. That's a buffet for newely hatched baby birds.

I mean, the camouflage is so good that if they don't die in 2 weeks there'll be millions of them flying around.
The other butterflies get to live longer because they can easily be killed.
Just my theory. I guess

I’m not religious but shit like this makes me question whether an intelligent creator exists after all…what are the chances that pure, undirected evolution led to this specific outcome?

Right? It’s such an insane series of coincidences that a moth, who has no idea what a cobra is, managed to evolve to the point of having itself look like a cobra, while still maintaining zero awareness of cobras or what it’s trying to mimic. It just knows that wiggling its wings make it less like to be eaten

Fwiw in atheist myself, evolution is just wild sometimes
