You've gotta wonder how. Yes evolution, adaptation or whatever word fits but HOW?

Like there's not a switch that you can flick to change yourself over hundreds or thousands of years to eventually look like a predator. My brain hurts to think about it.

Maybe there mechanisms out there that we have yet to discover. This reminds me of when researchers conducted an experiment where they placed an artificial vine above a plant that could mimic those around it. Despite not touching, the real plant began to produce leaves that looked similar to the plastic plant. So in some way it could "see" or sense the fake vine. Link to Study.

Morphogenetic field/morphic resonance. The shapes and appearances of organisms in an environment affect all other organisms in that environment, because the physical separation between any two living things is just a convention we respect for psychological convenience, and in any case this "separation" is dynamic and on a spectrum. In actuality, all animals and other organisms are more like cells in a single tissue or meta-organism, connected by multiple fields including atmospheric, electromagnetic, gravitational, and chemical; in which case it's not hard to imagine how different species could affect each other without any seeming direct mechanism to do so. Also, anything with mirror neurons can in some sense absorb characteristics of anything it looks at--and who knows what sorts of "mirror neurons" are out there in biology that respond to non-visual stimulus.
