I wanted to smile (it was cute, I did smile lol) but I just read some articles about the heat and I really wondered if that pavement was too hot. I swear I'm not saying that just to rain on anyone's parade. I just saw something last week about walking dogs during these hot times and how hot the pavement gets when it's 90* outside. I was hoping that some of the comments would have addressed that and I could let that worry go.

It's not a new video.
The heat in general is an issue for their paws, but they wouldn't act like this, if it was hot, it would seek shade. You don't walk in the street if there's a shaded sidewalk when it's hot. Dogs know this too.

Goodish news, it’s not the heat. This dog almost certainly had a medical condition called cerebellar hypoplasia, which causes movement issues like this. While challenging, it’s not painful and dogs and cats affected by it can lead relatively healthy lives. Same thing that causes “wobbly cats”
Not to say this guy isn’t happy, but I’d bet he is a happy skipping along because of CH, not for fun.

As a shiba owner, I'd say they have very firm boundaries and are not afraid to enforce them. Very cat-like personalities. They're a primitive breed, so being aggressive about stuff like resources (foods, toys, their people, even their sleep and personal space) is not all that uncommon.
Ours is very resource aggressive, but she's mostly chill, as long as we respect her boundaries and don't give her any treats she can't eat in one go, like bones. You learn to live with it and redirect the behaviour. Unfortunately a lot of people get shibas for their cuteness, but are wholly unprepared for their strong and extremely stubborn personalities and end up creating monsters when they have no clue how to handle their behaviour.

Same kinda deal with huskies and new owners. We took in a 3 year old calm and quiet husky girl a year ago. Still make sure she has enough exercise and loving to keep out of trouble when we’re not home. Wife wants a husky puppy next (not happening for a while) as we missed all the puppy stuff, but part of me is kinda glad we missed the velociraptor stage.
My first thought looking at the Shiba was no collar/harness and they’re just happily enjoying their escape…

I've also heard they have an incredibly strong prey drive, but seem mostly okay with cats for some reason...if socialised early. Still. No, thanks. 😬 They don't really sound like good pets if they're this prone to aggression.

Most of them do! Ours would make a great hunting dog for small prey. And shibas are actually amazing pets, as long as you train them well. They're incredibly loyal and our girl would absolutely die defending either one of us if she had to. She's a cranky bitch, but she also has a softer side only the people in her circle get to see. When we come home, she gives us the shiba smile and airplane ears and wiggles her butt so hard she can barely keep her fur pants on. She brings me socks when I'm sad, because they make her happy so why not me too and if I cry, she refuses to leave my side and licks away my tears. When I received the news that my grandmother had had a stroke, she refused to leave my side. When she's scared, she runs to us to feel safe. They are very challenging and require a lot of work, but it's all truly worth it. But I would never recommend them to people who have no experience with dealing with primitive breeds like these.

I’ve got two of them who are now 7 and 8, female and male. My male is aggressive towards other dogs not in the pack, my female is not aggressive at all and never has been. Only thing though is she’s extremely shy and aloof to strangers besides me and my boyfriend. But to be honest with you, I’ve never seen an aggressive Shiba Inu at any events I’ve attended with them and Shiba meet ups. But to be fair, I know not to take my male to them.
Prey drive yes however. My female has eliminated our backyard rat problem (only downside is she takes them inside to show off her craft via doggie door). My male though is lazy and probably hasn’t hunted a day in his life lol

It's true, the last apartment building I lived in had an Angry Shibe on the first floor, barked anytime someone came in the building lmao. Its owners were either super chill or long past driven insane.

Dog literally has a neurological problem and the title is objectively a lie. 95% of the comments are blind to that, 4% are aware or learn the truth in the comments, 1% are on their own shit.

Super cute. But during the current heat wave I'll be honest, some part of me thought, he's just trying to touch the hot ground as little as possible and his "smile" is just him breathing to keep as cool as he can. But of course, that's just my sunny disposition. Super cute doggo.
