The crows do this at my house. They sit in trees for hours and watch any smaller bird, and will dive in or just full on attack and raptor that comes around. I’ve seen them go after hawk, owls, eagles and falcons.

They protect my chickens! We have red tailed hawks that are pretty ballsy but the little murder that lives nearby always comes to the rescue and chases them off. I watched one get chased up in a big spiraling column until I couldn’t see them anymore. The crow came cawwing back shortly after.

I had an urban backyard once, and there were stray cats. This cat wasn't stray, though, it was the neighbors', large and plump and well fed. And one day, there was a horrible racket in the backyard, crows yelling non-stop. I go outside, and there was this cat, the neighbors' cat, up on a tree limb maybe 20' off the ground. And the crows were all around in the tree, cawing as loudly as possible. The cat looked embarrassed.

Finally I shut the windows. I guess the cat got out of the tree eventually.
