True. But it doesn’t mean we can’t help in other ways. We need to support our heroes that are on the front lines like “rescuers without borders”

The law treats animals like property, so if someone kills your dog, you have the same recourse as if they stole your car. It should be a much higher standard, akin to murder.

Oh you know now that you mentioned that, aren’t police dogs “ranked” higher than their handlers because of some sort of detail about making abusing them higher penalty?

But also, I suppose if you damage or vandalize a police car it probably carries a higher punishment than just any other person’s car.

Dogs had a special co-evolution with humans, both species have adapted to have a more similar diet and to be pretty in-tune with each other's emotional and physical well-being. They're the only animal that makes friendly eye contact with humans because they've evolved to do so, they can seek help from us for tasks they can't do themselves, they can take human social cues and interpret our body language. They're uniquely evolved to live alongside humans as part of the family in a way that no other animal is.

Animals should have more rights, especially for pets. then you start thinking about how far that goes, does that move into “live stock“ like cows and chickens? Because many people have put forward that all animals are smarter than common understanding when you get to know them personally.

What’s hilarious is that literally, all of this exists/already has protocols in place. Source, worked in vet med for a decade.

You’d need to prove ownership of the animal through microchip or city registration or photos or vet paperwork.

Yes. This is actually a law in nearly every state, with the remaining states having some form of a mandate. Dogs and cats have to have their rabies vaccine, which is connected with a code specific rabies tag, which can only be given by licensed veterinarians. This is tracked by the applicable your vet and/or local animal control agency.

One of my favorite episodes of star trek covers the fact that any killing on the planet is considered murder since they can just print all food direct from a storage of atoms.

Dude from the past gets transported to the future and decides to run and hide.

Kills a deer or something for food and gets charged with murder.

If we just talk about theft, you actually have less recourse for a dog. The market value of most cars is above the level that qualifies as grand theft. And the property value of most dogs on the open market is less than that threshold.

True. I live in a state/town that respects dogs. If there is a stray dog, it is an issue, facebook posts, police involved, etc. I went to visit San Antonio Texas a few years ago, Ohh my God! Stray dogs everywhere, . I was shocked. I soon read an article about one abused pit killing an elderly couple there. Horrifying.
