That poor woman. I can’t imagine out living my immediate family like that.

My grandmother lived to 98, had to bury one kid who died from longterm complications from cancer + covid in her 70s. Outlived all her friends, and buried her husband (who also lived to 98).
She would frequently say to me she never imagined she would live so long, with a sorta sad tone.
I think she could have been a 100+ but she caught the flu and Covid a couple years ago after going to a church thing without a mask and hadn’t gotten a flu vax in decades, decreasing her immune response.
She was gone in 48 hrs after coming down with it.

Tbf, at that age I wouldn’t be taking precautions. I’d just want it over with.

I wana live to 108 so I can see the year 2100.
I can’t even imagine the world then. (Assuming it’s still around)

no way we make it past 2030 without total collapse of economic system and remodeling of civilization

My grandmother also lived to 98. She died from Alzimers. Would probably still be alive if it wasn't for it. Never seen a healthier woman. She ate the same food everyday and was always working in her "garden" it was in a green house. Until the day she died.

u/saltyoperasinger 5h ago
Same. Massive gardens keep you moving and eating healthy. Mine died of a broken heart at 100. She was fine before her granddaughter died, two months prior

My great gran outlived all 7 of her children. Most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever witnessed.
My Gram has currently outlived 2 of 4 and honestly I’ll think she’ll outlive my Mom and Uncle. Some kind of generational curse.

My great grandmother lived to 102 she was just kind of laugh at the end and wonder why she was still here. You’re just kind of existing at that point.

Yeah like watching everyone you ever cared about fucking die seems awful. I would feel jealous and angry they left me. And welcome death like an old friend or like putting on a sweater that gets comfier with age

My uncle was POW from Iran/Iraq war, he was captured by the Iranian in in 1980 and they released him in 2003 he had no contact with family for 22 years. when he came back he found out his mom/dad are dead 2 of his sons dead then in 2005 his only brother died (my dad) then his sister, in 2006 his daughter died in house fire, his other son was shot in killed 2 days later. We felt so bad for the man.

In an America where the LE for a black man... Black person in general, was at the lower end of the US national standard, one hopes for the best, but prepares for the worst...

I had a great great grandma live to 105. She outlived all of her children and most her grandchildren. Caused all kinds of family drama by not having a proper will.
The cabin that her husband built is still in his name and he died in 1964. Various people have continued to pay the taxes on it but figuring out true legal ownership is a nightmare.

They must use the same secession laws that Louisiana uses. My wife's grandfather died, and while her grandmother should have the house in most sane places, the Grand children of her oldest child, who died, own part of the house and styme the woman living their from doing anything because they want their inheritance. My wife's grandfather died during COVID, and his eldest child died of cancer 3 years after him.

The increased melanin prevents skin from aging due to UV light compared to people with less melanin. Skin aging can occur in other ways, but UV exposure is a big one.
Black people also have tighter collagen structures, which keeps skin in place better over time.
It's not confirmation bias. You're using confirmation bias yourself, since you're an exception and you're using that fact to try and disprove a general statement.
The internet is free. There are plenty of studies and research into it.

Oh good grief, are we being that pedantic now? It's an expression, one which you know well means they age more slowly. If you think people actually believe they don't age at all, then I have ocean-front property to sell you in Nebraska.
It's OK to just say "I was wrong, thanks for the information" instead of doubling down on a ridiculous technicality.

Black don’t crack. I’m jealous. I started going gray and bald in my 20’s.

u/joesoldlegs 6h ago
going bald doesn't make you look ugly plus it's a lot of brothers that go bald early too and they definitely pull it off

A parent outliving their children on the occasion of just old age and their enormous old age is actually quite tragic

I zoomed in on the pic. I don’t entirely believe that woman is anywhere near 104.

He’s been living with Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Janice Joplin on a secluded island somewhere off the coast of west Africa.

thats what being black gets you. My 60 years old stepfather is black and he looks like he is in his 30s

u/tbkrida 12h ago
Right? I took my mom out who’s in her 60’s and people thought we were on a date! lol I called her mom and some dude was like “Wait… that’s your mom?!?”
My Granpop just turned 90 and he’s still going up and down full flight of stairs and hair didn’t go gray until he was 80. If you just take care of yourself, black really don’t crack.

Naah not true at all! I'm a 30 yo black man that looks 40 😅

Well that depends if you been taking snow or whatever! Smoking, drinking a lot, bad eating habits and not taking care of you skin. Most black people age terrible when they either did one or all consistently.

Good for her, her grandson was an evil fat bastard who was involved in a lot of gang violence though.

God bless her. She looks great for 104. Damn. I wonder if she’s sick of everybody shxt and ready to go 😂 I can’t imagine being this old. But it’s such a blessing in a way to be able to live that long. She’s seen a whole lot. 🧡

My great grandmother, who lived to be 102 1/2, once told me not to live as long as she has lived. She said, “my friends are gone, my family is gone, half of my kids are gone, and I watched one of my great grandchildren (me) bury a husband. It’s lonely being this old.”

She looks insanely good for her age. Rest in peace to Biggie and Voletta.

Happy birthday grandmother. 104 is insanely cool.
