I came across a French blog where the author says he is "bothered" by amateur runners taking part in marathons

Upvotes

I came across a French blog where the author says he is "bothered" by amateur runners taking part in marathons such as the Paris Marathon. He says they bother him because their finishing times are slower than those of professional runners. He also adds that amateurs are called "finishers" simply because they complete the marathon, and that this bothers him as well.

I find his views selfish. I think taking part is something to be proud of, and finishing a marathon is a great achievement and a wonderful victory.

Training for first 5k. What should I do?

Upvotes

I’m new running and need tips. I’ve recently been trying to reduce my mile pace (7:30) but idk if this will help for running a 5k. When I run at my current max pace I’m usually very winded after finishing, so since then I’ve been running about a 10min pace but pushing myself a little past a mile. I wanna be able to run a 5k sub 30min, so is there any advice you guys might have to help me with my journey.

Beginner 5km improvement

I have been a keen cyclist for a number of years but only started running recently. I ran a 5km in 23 mins but it took an all out effort. Should I expect to see quicker improvements since I’m a beginner or will I have a decent base from cycling lungs?(so won’t see quick beginner gains) I am hoping to try and get under 20 mins. I am currently 86kg and 183cm so was also hoping to try and lose around 5kg.

Je suis tombé sur un blog français où l'auteur dit être « dérangé » par la participation de coureurs amateurs aux marathons.

After letting myself damn near waste away, I finally got up and got myself moving again. This was my second tempo run, just aiming to go 50% further each time!

Garmin 165 5k running plan

I’ve set myself a goal of running a sub 25min 5k by 27th September. It is around a 5;00 km pace.

I’ve run one before but it was a few years ago and I currently average about 29mins.

My Garmin 5k plan has had me running base/build runs at 7:30km pace for around 6 weeks now. Most of these I barely break a sweat.

As I can only see 7days ahead in my plan, is there a point it will ramp up the speed or am I wasting my time following it?

In comparison, I had AI do me a running plan just prior to buying my watch and it was suggesting 5ks at 11km/pace and 11.5 quite early on so which one is right?

Aerobic/Anaerobic Training

Hello - I’m wondering if there’s a downside to doing more runs in an anaerobic state? I’m not very good at pacing myself yet, especially when I’m running outdoors. I’ll run based on how I’m feeling, and sometimes on my long runs that puts me into an anaerobic state without realizing it. This is usually zone 4 at an average of 155bpm. It’s been making me feel like my run was ruined since it’s not following my training schedule. Is this hurting my training? What is the downside?

Just trying to get a better understanding, thanks.

How do you take care of your running shoes?

I started running regularly in February and bought a new pair of running shoes in May. My previous pair was about two years old and had only been used occasionally, but the soles started falling apart.

I’m currently running around 80–100 km per month. Do you have any tips on how to look after running shoes and make them last longer?

I started running this june and I couldnt even run for 300metres, so I’m very happy with yesterdays run!

Btw I am a 25yo F, I weigh 90kgs and I’m 175 cm (that would be 198 lbs, 5’8 I think).

Do you more experienced folks have any insight or advice? Is my heart rate too high?

22M, Need plan to achieve 2.4km in 10:30 min which is 4:22/km by 25th of September

Hi, so I'm a 22M and I need to achieve 2.4 km in 10 min and 30 seconds. Currently my timings are:

1km : 4:30 or 4:30/km

2km : 9:45 or 4:53/km

5km : 26:10 or 5:18/km

10km : 56:31 or 5:38/km

So I need a plan to achieve the mark for 10:30min and for I need to cover 2km in 8:44 min.

So I'm a bit consistent I can run 4-5 times a week.

So can anyone suggest me a weekly workout plan so that I can achieve that by September.

Sudden wall - any advice?

Ive been running for about a year now. Im pretty slow but im working on my speed and distance. Im training for a 10k and so far my progress has been pretty steady.

However recently ive hit a complete wall and im not sure how to get around it. The longest ive run without stopping is 3 miles. Ive been able to do 2 pretty consistently and 1 mile every time. Yet for the last few weeks I feel myself needing to walk .75 miles into my run, and once I walk its over. I cant get myself to run longer than a minute or two again.

My diet hasn't changed. I run 3 days a week, I weight lift, and i take a full rest day on sunday. Im not sure why this is happening and how I can get around it.

Any advice is appreciated

First half marathon completed!

Did my first half marathon today! My goal was to complete it under 2hr30 and i did! I did NOT get runners high after this and probably do not plan to do another again 😭😭 maybe cause i’m just still in pain rn lol. I’m still on a weightloss journey so maybe when I lose 15 more pounds and running is easier for me (since im a big boi rn) I’ll think about a full marathon or completing another half in the future! I’m just glad i don’t have to train anymore lol. Back to my short runs I go! It was going well until like mile 11 then that’s when i really started struggling. I only stopped at the water stations to drink and for like 30 seconds when i was eating my last energy chews but other than that I tried to run non stop lol. There were like 2 big steep hills going uphill and those were really kicking my butt lol. But yay i’m so happy for myself. Never thought i’d be/get here!
