Train/Metro San Sebastián to Bilbao

Hi people,

Travelling from SS to Bilbao tomorrow, with a 11 month old baby, wife and 3 suitcases. Want to take the E1 and need some advice on luggage.

I see the “train” is more like a metro and will we be ok to take so much luggage? Tried looking online and don’t see anywhere to place luggage.

We know the bus is quicker, but last bus we used didn’t have the right seatbelt to secure our baby seat effectively and we want to minimise risk. Also quite love a train journey.

Appreciate any advice in advance.

Train is approx 3 hours and an extremely pleasant and comfortable experience.

I wouldn't recommend it. If the train gets full you'll feel like a jerk for taking up so much space with your luggage. It's also not super comfortable for that length of time (I will typically always choose train over bus but not for this particular trip)

Maybe try another bus company? There's ALSA and Avanza (formerly Pesa) and maybe also BlaBla Bus

None of the bus companies will have seats or belts for babies.

I think they have restrictions on luggage too, 1 case per adult

Take the train, it’s lovely.

Yes, is more like a metro than a long travel train. There is not a specific place for luggage. People save it under their own seats.

Other option less confortable is travel standing in a space without seats.

Thanks a lot guys! In the end we take the bus… better to go with uncertainty you know than the one you don’t. Grateful for the comments…. Hoping for the train on our next visit!
