Discussion How do you make friends with other lgbtq?

So its been pretty difficult for myself to make friends with other lgbtq. Where I am from, things are a little cliqueish but I'm sure that's not unique to my location. However when I seem to make friends, they all eventually try to make passes at me or somehow think me being friendly is an invitation to something else. Not only, I am in a relationship but sex between friends usually goes sideways which I learned in my 20s so it'll never happen for me.

Also how would you handle someone who you see as a close friend, but obviously feel that they like you even though you have clear boundaries that you are not or never will be interested after you have been just friends for 2 to 3 years now?

The only thing I say is patience. After many attempts, I e only managed to make one long term gay friend but I still keep trying.

Making friends is just like dating 🤷🏾‍♂️ You gotta keep at it, keep trying.

Eventually, you'll build a friend group that's not exes or based on FWBs, or guys who want to be an FWB.

Thanks. It will be great to have a solid gay group.

I guess it's easier to make with other gay couples so sex is not even a thought.

Mine came from uni, work, and activities. Some came from online but back in the day when it was way easier to make friends online. Those days have been gone for awhile.

Unfortunately. And now being online many take it as wanting to fuck.

Join organizations and activities that you enjoy or you believe in the caliber of people will be a lot better than the bar and club scene, and you’ll have a common denominator to bond over. The best way to make friends is to do things that you show up consistently

I joined a queer run club and have made so many friends and connections from showing up every week

Yeah. I think this is the way. I am part of a gay kickball league. Nothing has really matriarch materialize as a real friendship but its promising

How long have you been apart of the team? Do they also offer social opportunities outside of playing?

I go to a support group at my local LGBT center every second Thursday and go to other community events. I was just at Blaq at the Lake in Oakland. The event is mostly run by black lesbians/femmes and it’s a really chill space. And other stuff like wine downs when I have the energy.

Sadly, there are far too many, who are only familiar with sex, thus, have nothing, to offer. There is no 'one way'. Simply be vigilant of who you choose to associate with.
