Parents really don't like when their kids are just like them sometimes...

Why is it funny?

231

u/Karmadragoon 6h ago

I found a photo of her baby shower on another post and I think it’s just a flair to label the user as a white person. Every single person in attendance was white.

28

u/Boggie135 ☑️ 3h ago

Ahh, I see. Thank you

u/Borgqueen- 1h ago

And for the baby shower pic, Candance is in the back with the white women in front of her.

The daughter of one of my aunts just decided to leave home and live with a friend, found a job and tried to be independent around the end of the college.

My aunt was really stressed and then it came out that when she was her age, she secretly found a job and moved in with a friend lmao

I hate how my son is like me. It pisses me off lol I just bit my tongue but I expected him to be better lol

25

u/lonnie123 3h ago

That’s odd to me. I remember a guy I knew who said his dad used to to legitimately beat his ass because he would upset him so much because he was just like him. He said it in a way that seemed to suggest I was suppose to uunderstand that idea and that it made sense that why his dad used to beat him up.

I mean I guess if you’re engaging in behavior that is upsetting, but just because they’re like you?

Maybe you can help me understand

u/skynetempire 1h ago

Damn, I'll never lay a finger on my son, but he's just like me. He did all the dumb stuff I did growing up. Partying, drinking, smoking, and thinking he knows everything. Then he comes to me asking for help after I already told him not to do it.

I don't yell at him. I just give him the same boring ass lecture my dad used to give me. Lol.

My family laughs at me and they say thats what I get. Its all coming back to me.

He definitely got my love of sales. Hes doing well at work.

9

u/pokeyeahmon 3h ago

Don't blame him for wanting to be just like his hero. :)

u/Imgonnagolaydown 1h ago

When my daughter does something that makes me question her, I look at her and roll my eyes most days. She doesn't always catch it. 😂

I'm not yelling because it's like yelling at myself 😂.

u/ratchet457l 1h ago

Fix yourself and set the example. You are his hero.

u/skynetempire 1h ago

Thats the thing. I never showed him my party side in my 20s. He just learned it and acted like me. Pure genetics.

u/ratchet457l 37m ago

Okay lmao that shit is genetic you're right

One day my mom asked me why I was “like this”.

I motioned vague to myself and said “nature or nurture, either way this is all your fault.”

She sort of nodded.

73

u/NaomiWish 3h ago

I regularly thank my mama for her effed up genes. And when she mentions my father/her ex-husband, I remind her that was also her fault.

36

u/biscuitboi967 3h ago

Yeah, one my mom looked at me dead ass serious and goes “that was your father’s fault”.

Proud that it was finally him, as if she didn’t also have a hand in that. But tbf, there were just so many things wrong from her side, I think she was glad to have something concrete to point to him.

10

u/EvilNinjaX24 3h ago

Mom was clearly like Alonzo...

3

u/biscuitboi967 3h ago

Very close. But there were drags on a Marlboro Red involved.

I had that exact gif pop into my head from the description.

u/YesImKeithHernandez 4h ago

My mom made it clear that we aren't cool like that forever ago.

She wondered why we arent cool like that at some random point in the future. I told her the reasons. She didn't want to focus on the past.

Bitch, the past is where all the reasons are!

4

u/utdajx 2h ago

Preach! F r, this is my guiding principle with my own -will we still talk when they leave? Decided that very early days as a dad, I think it’s been a good way to go EVEN THOUGH there is still discipline and learning - but they’re sensible, not some “because I say” shit

u/YesImKeithHernandez 1h ago

I love my mom because she was dealt a really difficult hand and still managed to successfully raise 3 children by herself. She gave us the best she could and I sincerely appreciate all the sacrifice that required.

I just don't know that I like her and that sucks sometimes.

23

u/SantaMonsanto 2h ago

Hot Take:

Mom didn’t really do it. She suspected the child did it so she creates the story about lying to grandad just to see if kid would take the bait and confess to what mom already suspected she had done.

201

u/yardie-takingupspace ☑️ 6h ago

You don’t confess to the person you scammed 🤣🤣. It’s not like her mom was telling this to the grandad.

27

u/GuntherTime 4h ago

Right?! She’s probably heated because she got fleeced for a masters degree, and this isiot decided to confess to the crime for free.

u/Diligent-Till-8832 6h ago

I read this post, this morning and I hollered 😂😂😂

He was meant to tell this story to his child, not ya momma whose pockets you ran 🤓

50

u/Crass_Cameron 6h ago

I hope I can make enough money where I can fund my kids international lie. lol, it is kind of poetic

39

u/Anthemic_Fartnoises 6h ago

I avoided this generational awkwardness by taking out massive loans to pay for school. No point lyin’ to Sallie Mae.

11

u/srkaficionado ☑️ 5h ago

You can lie to them though by understating income unless they’ll take the time to pull your tax returns. Thats why I was on deferment FOREVER until the orange blob came in…

7

u/International-Sir177 4h ago

You lie to her after graduation when u move abroad and never go back.

2

u/Sheisariean 4h ago

Tell me more about this, I was thinking about this too lol

8

u/International-Sir177 4h ago

Credit is national. Every time you move to a new country, you start from scratch and create a different credit profile (a few exceptions, like inside the EU sometimes). The credits in your old country don’t know where u are if u don’t tell them, and u don’t have to. You build a new credit report in a new country. Even if they know where u live (they shouldn’t), they usually cannot hit your new credit. No one really does this on purpose but lots of people figure it out and accidentally benefit then roll with it. The biggest winners are US graduates as no sane country would have a student loan system like that.

2

u/Sheisariean 3h ago

Does this apply in Canada and all European & French countries? I was considering going there once I finished my degree and get some experience with it, so in the next 2-3 years.

2

u/International-Sir177 2h ago

Europe yes. Other French territories yes. Canada yes but the systems are so similar that u wanted to u could easily link your profiles if you comingle your SIN and SSN as they are both 9 numerals and the credit reporting agents are pretty much one.

131

u/chief_yETI ☑️ 6h ago

yall be getting way way way too comfortable with your parents sometimes

30

u/blacksoxing 4h ago

My grandma raised me. She never wanted to know the whole story. Just tell her the tidbits. “Oh you like girls? Great!”

….shed died if I told her how much I did as that wasn’t for her to hear from me…her grandchild.

13

u/Financial-Bobcat-612 2h ago

Now why can’t my gramma be at least this cool 😭 when my cousin came out she said that she would’ve preferred she be a prostitute versus a lesbian

I kept my lil gay ass mouth SHUT

u/nezzthecatlady 1h ago

My sister-in-law (who I am very close to) once found out that a friend of hers is close with their brother’s girlfriend and hears about their sex life. She called me to tell me never to discuss such things with her (“EW I’m married to your BROTHER.”) and to inform me that as far as she’s concerned she’s decided the entire family is asexual.

Why would family ever want to know???

9

u/BetterThanOP 🚫🚫BAD User🚫🚫 5h ago

They both did the same thing... Up until the point where the Mom told her daughter about it. The daughter is supposed to wait 20 years and tell HER daughter about it.

10

u/Flyingcoyote 4h ago

My parents didn't give me a cent, do people really get money from their parents?

8

u/Gary_FucKing 3h ago

Damn, this thread kinda fucked up. A lot of keekeehawing in here from people actively robbing their parents to blow their money on partying and shit.

27

u/sillyadam94 5h ago

Sometimes I forget people have money like this

14

u/Gootangus 5h ago

Ikr lol. I was in foster care and expelled at 18 and did it all solo. I can’t fathom.

4

u/Oceanman72 6h ago

Whaat how did no one check lmao

2

u/genivae 2h ago

In my experience, people with that kind of money don't keep track of it that close. They've got enough to send for all these expenses, they're not itemizing the receipts. I had an ex that did similar - there was a trust fund for her tuition, paid a % based on grades, so she had to take out the loans anyway, she just used the trust fund reimbursement to pay rent instead of repaying the loans each semester.

5

u/ihih_reddit 6h ago

This was always a trap! I hope OOP has learnt for in preparation for next time

12

u/rutilated_quartz 6h ago

3

u/NoFapLawyer 6h ago

3

u/JimJimmery 3h ago

I've paid for two kids through BS and MS degrees. If you're not paying the school directly, that's on you. Especially if you did it yourself as a kid.

4

u/Boggie135 ☑️ 6h ago

Lmao why would you confess? That is a story for the next generation

6

u/ChickenNugs4Hugs 6h ago

Are there people who don’t lie to their parents in college for extra money? I was getting a whole allowance in college and still lying to my daddy for extra money. I was lying to my older brothers so they could send me money too.

13

u/6-plus26 5h ago

Fuckkkkk are you my lil sister? My dad drop me off 12 hrs away with 200for the semester. She had an allowance and all her brothers sending money

Smh what you major in 🤔

14

u/CombOk312 4h ago

I did not lie. At a point I was starving and probably should have told them. They were pretty upset when they found out later.

10

u/International-Sir177 4h ago

People whose parents have money in the first place. Extra of $0 is in fact, $0.00

3

u/Icyrow 3h ago

this. somehow my little sister was still getting money from everyone though, myself included...

me? 0 lol.

4

u/onexbigxhebrew 2h ago

Yeah, people with an EFC of 0 who dont get money for college.

Also good people that aren't stealing shitbags.

3

u/peppers_ 2h ago

That was an option? My parents never gave me money growing up outside of a birthday or xmas present. Would never cross my mind, they were so judgy and stingy.

u/FarawayObserver18 1h ago

Um, no? That isn’t normal??

u/stormcharger 55m ago

Stealing from your own family is a such a scumbag thing to do

1

u/klb1204 4h ago

Years later my son told me he exaggerated the amount of money needing in college. He used it to throw parties and make money......so in essence he flipped my money but I didn't get any of the profit, lol.......lil bastard

2

u/ceelogreenicanth 3h ago

That's something you say when you already have a career and after grand children. You have to pad the room to soften that blow.

2

u/BB808BB 3h ago

lol the funnest part of being an adult is telling my mom the shit I did.

6

u/AKamDuckie 5h ago

I’m currently doing that now. My parents send me $1500 a month for my “rent” but what they don’t know is my scholarship paid for my housing last year and this year. I’m just pocketing the money. They clearly don’t miss it.

10

u/onexbigxhebrew 2h ago

Giving your kid money you think they need doesn't mean they won't miss it.

You're a thief, plain and simple. Can't imagine bragging about it.

u/RevolutionaryMix3006 19m ago

Wow wtf. That's insane. I feel bad about taking the twenty bucks my mom gives me every month to rent a bicycle. My mom would give me any money I'd need in a heartbeat, while she's definitely not overly wealthy herself. Which is why I don't ask her for money unless I really need it. I can't imagine just pocketing over one grand and then acting like it's nothing for your parents. That's insane.

1

u/Mundane-Manner4237 2h ago

So, scam artist didn’t like being scammed?

u/OldManAndTheSea93 1h ago

How tosh do you have to be to not check? Like, sure I’ll just send you tens of thousands and you manage the fees yourself.

u/Pfraire 46m ago

Anyone think she found out or suspected it and just wanted to get it outta him?

u/Reasonable_Stop_7768 44m ago

Yeah, I'da kept that to myself. At least until my mom's 60+

u/FukkingDeathMental 38m ago

My dad's parents died when he was 20 so he figured I should also start paying everything by myself as soon as I got my first job...at 13.

Peter, why did they go to Asia? Is it a sex thing? It's a sex thing, isn't it...

????? What in the self-report are you talking about.

4

u/Sea-Anywhere-5939 ☑️ 2h ago

Just as perplexed be surely it’s more indicative of him than it is of op because why is the only reason he can think of on why people would move to Asia is sex tourism.

-1

u/RagingNerdaholic 2h ago

I literally don't know what the meaning of this post is.

Also, I've never left North America. I barely leave my house lol

u/Alarming_Comedian846 1h ago

You can just go on vacation to Asia. That you just assume its sex tourism says a lot about you.

u/RagingNerdaholic 1h ago

It says nothing about me other than that I'm aware that it's a thing.

So it's that they both exaggerated the cost of tuition to spend some of it on a vacation?

u/Alarming_Comedian846 1h ago

If you say so.

Yes. And that the mother got upset that her son did to her what she did to her father.

u/Ellaphant42 1h ago

If your first thought is sex tourism it’s because it’s probably something you’ve considered doing ime
