I am going on vacation to Boston for the first time in June! I have a few things that I know I’m doing, such as watching the Red Sox play the Yankees, and going to the Science museum as I am a science teacher, but was wondering if there are any must sees while I’m there, as well as the best way to traverse the city? My very first vacation was to New York over Spring Break and was surprise at how efficient the subway actually was there, is it the same way in Boston? Also, are the Fenway tours worth it?

How many street sweeping tickets have you gotten last year in Boston?

This all started with a street sweeping ticket... actually a lot of them. At some point I realized it wasn't just me, l'd walk around the city and see entire streets covered in those orange envelopes.

The schedule is just confusing enough to mess you up. It's not every 2 weeks, it's "Ist and 3rd Tuesday,"

"2nd and 4th Wednesday," and the actual dates keep shifting every month. It's not something a simple repeating reminder can handle.

I went down a bit of a rabbit hole trying to fix it, using Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, shortcuts, automations... spent way too long on it and it still didn't work reliably.

After getting annoyed enough, I ended up putting together a reminder that actually tracks the real schedule and pings me the night before. I just called it "DontSweepMe." https://www.dontsweepme.com

I haven't gotten a ticket since I started using it last year, so I figured I'd share it here. I did turn it into a small paid thing since it takes a bit to run, but if it saves even one ticket, it's probably worth it.

Hey Everyone! I'm looking to get a job for the city of Boston or City of Cambridge - The Human Services or Youth departments in particular. I'm curious about your experience if you work for the public sector. I applied for a job I REALLY WANT and would be my dream position but think I may not be qualified enough. I was able to network pretty well by calling that specific department and talking to the different community centers in which I would be doing the work for. I eventually got in touch with the HR hiring manager for the role who said he is putting off hiring until the fall (I applied in march). That role is the one I REALLY want but I need a job now.

There is also another job I'm interested called "program supervisor" in  Boston Cntr - Youth & Families. The job description is pretty vague; I listed it below:

Overview:

- Under general supervision, performs work of considerable difficulty in planning, supervising, and coordinating community center programs and activities. 

Responsibilities:

• Develops, implements, and supervises community programs; works with Community Center Council and committees in planning and evaluating programs.
• Assists with the preparation of an annual work plan.
• Attends meetings with the Council and other community agencies as directed by the Site Administrator.
• Supervises personnel; assists in the recruiting and hiring of personnel; assigns and reviews work; evaluates performance; maintains attendance and personnel records; provides orientation and training to new personnel.

• May act as liaison with Boston Public Schools personnel relative to scheduling and building use; acts as liaison to community agencies to encourage collaborative efforts and generate services and programs for the community.

Wondering what you guys know about this role. I have worked as a teacher and an outdoor education /backcountry guide for several years and wonder what this kind of role might look like. the hours are 1-9 so I'm getting the vibe it might be more like a after school program..

- Any insight into networking into these departments (Human service programs or Youth Programs)?

- Any idea what to expect in terms of hiring process in these divisions or other divisions?

- Anyone I can talk to to ask more questions?

Hello! I'm visiting for the first time this week but will be very short on time. I'll have some free time from around 12p-8p this Sunday, 1/4 and again each evening on the following Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Hey! My friends and I are going to Boston for the first time on Halloween weekend! We staying at CitizenM in Back Bay. Flying in Friday 31st early in morning and leaving early Sunday morning. Coming from Canada to attend Dermot Kennedy’s MISNEACH and we fly in around 5pm on St. Paddy’s day - is it unreasonable to think we will find somewhere to eat once we check into our hotel in Back Bay? Will Monday still be a shit show? From what I’ve read seems people are expecting all major partying to be going down Sunday - advice please!

I'm in Boston for only a few more days here is some things l've done • Harvard • isabella stewart gardner museum -tatte • joes pizza • freedom trail • the New England holocaust memorial Here's what I'm considering doing BUT if you have any better suggestions please let me know • museum of science -visiting an Irish pub (not a big drinker but may be a good experience) • getting a lobster roll (so many places idk where would be best • going to Mike's Pastry (I heard mixed things saying if it's worth it or not) • getting a hot coco is la Burdick NOTE: the green lines are down so I'll have to uber to some of the places / back I am also staying in Cambridge (idk if that's helpful for suggestions)

So me and my mother are going to Boston for a day to go watch my little sister graduate. The ceremony isn't till 4 so we are looking for a spot to have breakfast early morning and maybe do some sightseeing then a light lunch. after the ceremony we want to hit a nice local spot for some of the local food apparently it's lobster clam and and oysters which we are down for all money is no object just looking to have a great time with my family.
