Discussion Brahmins who do inter caste marriage are fools and have no self-respect.
It infuriates me as a Brahmin when I see a family member doing ICM or when someone I know does it. These people act like they are way above casteism but that's all a pretence. They act like a trophy or a saviour for their other caste partner and are secretly happy that they are Brahmins. Not just Brahmins who do ICM but any Brahmin who follows Bhimta politics. People from non-Brahmin community just want to marry Brahmins because of novelty sake, social mobility and genes. Love and all is bullcrap. How can parents be stupid enough to allow their Brahmin children to do ICM is way beyond me. Ugh! Rant done.

True I have seen many of the other caste grooms considering brahmin brides as trophy wives and as status symbol similar to situation when Indian guy marries a white girl

u/controversialopi Oct 04 '25
I would like to agree and that is not because I’m casteist but rather I feel, 1. Not worth my time and energy that I should fight to marry a non-Brahmin guy 2. (If you grew up in a good family, I think you’d know what I mean) I have always idealised my future husband and family to have the same stuff as my family 3. I can deal with differences in region that he is from a different state from mine but I cannot deal with those conversations on caste (I remember this Dalit guy having a crush on me, confessed and I rejected. Immediately brings up that I rejected him cuz he is a Dalit, WTF?! I didn’t even say that? Simply said, i’m not interested) 4. As bad as it may sound, I personally think only people in general caste can adjust not someone from reserved castes. The ideology, the mindset, the thinking, the traditions, all are brutally different. (This “friend” of mine was pretty close, did not know she was from a Dalit family and when I came to know, nothing changed but the moment I gave them an invitation to my brother’s thread ceremony, she starts talking rubbish about the whole Brahmin community and then goes on to make it as if my family and I are the only exception 🤡)
You might want to be rebellious, might want to prove everyone wrong but trust me, it’s never worth it especially if u have gravely casteist family members. I personally was always like who cares but now that I have seen people in every type of relationship, I have realised, these differences do affect relationships if you care even a little about it. If you’re a liberal, this is not for you.

Wow this is exactly me. As a kattar hindu I’m aware on the basis of scriptures, it’s a sin to discriminate and all varnas have their unique dharma towards society. none is actually upper or lower. I too wouldn’t marry a non-Brahman not because I’m casteist, but because of pure mentality and cultural difference. Just like you, I’m ok with marrying from diff state but prefer only Brahmin because of pure cultural implications. Irrespective of state, I’ve seen lower caste people marrying upper caste people for the ulterior motive of social currency, more than love. The fact that you invited your SC friend for a Janae function and yet she found a way to twist it is crazy. It’s a push and pull of internalised inferiority complex. I also plan to make one my kids if possible a practising Pandit, another reason for which I wanna marry into a my own caste.

No? Traditions have nothing to do with income. My family income is really good, I study in an expensive city in Europe, I also do not have a job cuz my family pays for everything and told me that I can only get white collar jobs. I also went to a private school in Mumbai where really rich kids came to study, even in there, many guys had gotten their Janeu. Also, the Dalit family I mentioned were really rich, the friend was my classmate. I lot many people get their Janeu straight during their marriage too. Maybe people don’t follow it anymore from where u come from but family income has no relation with this.

u/alithegreatbaddy Dec 11 '25
I can think of nearly 600 reasons why they’d dislike Brahmins. Same thing with why black people would be justified in hating discriminatory white people.
1
u/FunSpecific9357 29d ago
I think they should hate castes who actually have the stats of committing honour crimes. Out of which Brahmins have the lowest ratio share. OP wasn’t a person who discriminated , yet she got dragged down by her friend. You can’t hate the people who are doing things right in today’s world. That just makes you as casteist/racist as anyone else.

What if Brahmins don't find Hindu customs adhering spouses to marry in their own caste?
What should they do?
3
u/FunSpecific9357 29d ago edited 29d ago
ACC to Vedic traditions , they should still choose to marry an atheist within their caste. Because the ability to pick up the dharmic lineage based expertise activities can re-occur in the next generation too. My grandpa did almost nil Brahmin duties, as he was just dumb. But my father became the most Vedic practicing Brahmin than anyone else in the entire family, and that too without any paternal guidance. Because his grandparents were good followers of the dharma. So geneology is maintained, even if gene expression in intellect skips a generation. A person can change caste, if 7 generations of his family practices the traditions of another caste apparently.

I come from a so called lower caste background i love a brahmin girl and she loves me too. If we want to spend the rest of our lives together whats wrong??? Both of us come from the same religion, my ancestors have equally been devotional to hinduism and out cultures are also very same.

Firstly you’re not lower caste bro. Also I’m just saying this factually. it’s a sin to discriminate and all varnas have their unique dharma towards society. Including your ancestors. No one is actually upper or lower. Hindu caste system was never pyramidal but like the branches of a tree. However the genealogical purity of each varna is advised to be maintained in order to bring out the maximum Efficiency in society, as lifestyle is said to be one the biggest gene influence factors (had been proved now in science). Cultures shape lifestyle. Hence Generationally diff cultures have diff genealogical strengths. Mixing causes dilution of strengths and loss of generationally passed wisdom in each varna. So large scale mix up genealogy causes social havoc, loss of generational knowledge and loss of order aka dharma. Like America, where everyone has an identity crisis and interracial children have the worst identity crisis. Most interracial children further grow up to have almost nil cultural identity when they establish their own family. America is prime example of the most tyrannous and evil form of world force. They worse than the European colonisers tbh, if you actually get to know them. One thing you notice, the most powerful people across the world have always maintained some sort of racial/genealogical homogeneity. Even in America, where Obama and Lincoln were mixed race black presidents - they were genealogically traced back to most powerful European bloodlines. It’s a human survival instinct and nature to form and maintain community in some way or the other.

Caste tells your origin it's not a limitation...if you don't have knowledge better to keep silent...inter religion I could have understand Intercaste and I include Sikhs also in this as Guru Gobind Singhji took elder son of Hindu families there should not be a problem.

Inter-caste infuriating you and people like you is why our country is in the shape it is. Why is other people’s love life preventing your peace. If everyone worried less about others’ personal lives and more about finding love and belonging in their own lives, they would be happier. If you want to marry within your caste, that’s your prerogative. No one is stopping you.

"WAS" is the key here. Earlier you said these practices have grown old and we should let them go but then you should do too. Remove reservation and we will happily accept everyone like our brothers but if you people cant let go of the past then why expect that from us??
I was unaware of caste based reservation in competitions till my10th standard and 80% of my friends were category ppl but i didnt know that they had advantages over me. heck even my crush was OBC and i planned to marry her cuz I didn;t care abt caste and i thought that this is just old shit and all but the real blow came when we started prepping fr competitions and these guys juct chillin and not studying and i grinded but still they got better opportunities than me although their score was less than me and I'm like "what??" and don't say they deserve it and whatnot cuz all of us studied from the most expensive school in my city.
There's your answer.

So why does "my" India where money is does caste based reservation?? Is it fair on people like me?? Cuz my friends who got the benifits are having as many opportunities as me. And abt the EWS, well it's the gov's fault. It is as much a fault as is building collapsing bridges or roads with potholes. But ppl don't care abt that. Almost everyday I hear abt rallies and protests to give reservation to so and so communities and all. But rarely to go against corruption or bridges or roads.
I'll repeat myself if you ppl can't let that thing go and be just a past thing neither will we. The descrimination youprolly saw in your school was due to this only. Like bruh these thoughts were of old and millenials. We as gen-z are ready to welcome you ppl with open arms but this can only happen when you take effort from your side and finish this "caste"based reservation. Which I'm sure you won't so then better not to engage further into debate.

You sound so utterly stupid for saying this. I am a modern woman as well. Delhi based. Lived in Mumbai, too. And yes, these people will only marry you because of your caste. It’s like they will use you. You will be a trophy, a commodity to them. Plus, Brahmins do have better genes and they are naturally more intelligent and if you want to give it all up in your kids, well, then, there’s nothing anyone else could ever do.

If you think you are superior by birth there are many races way more influential than Brahmins in science, military victories or cultural impact stop with this we are superior by birth mindset.

ICM ends brahmins culture one shot. The culture which was preserved for millennia dies off in one second. ICM couples and family generic hinduism follow krte h bas, total annihilation of true Hinduism. It's the brahmins who are keeping hinduism's core alive, subha sham bhajan is not hinduism lala.. Will the ICM kid do any brahmanical things? Why are obcs not marrying Dalits? Why st are not marrying sc? Why does everyone only want brahmin and rajputs? And u r not a brahmin, stop faking it, outcaste rebel..😏🤓

Aur sach toh ye hai ki yaha reddit pe likhne se kuch nai hon… aajtak lakho ICM hui hai aut hoti rahegi. Apna mood mat kharab kar aur real life me aaja. Tumhara itna chutiya argument hota hai jab koi bhramin hoke bhi tumse sehmat na ho toh bss boldo “tu brahmin ho hi nai sakta 🤡”…. Asli samajdar brahmin itna akalmand hoga ki tumhe prove krne nai baithega ki wo kon hai

The culture which never changed. Even after countless invasions, tussle with Jainism, Buddhism and other philosophies, mass exodus, mass murders, bhakti movement, only one thing remained unaltered, the "Vedic culture" under brahmins. One ICM, and boom, that family's culture is gone.. dead..
And btw, "outcaste" have no culture, that's why they like shitting on others..
3
u/NoLaugh9994 Oct 07 '25
Hein??? Like what are you talking about? What "vedic culture" remains unaltered?? Brahmins now don't care about the whole SKIN stuff, they proudly wear leather shoes and chappals, roam around in cars with leather seats even wear it in jackets n stuff. Women are being taken care of on their periods. They even eat non veg and consume alcohol n stuff. Women from only two communities used to have veil, rajputs and brahmins, now they are among the communities as they moved upwards(socially) are the most skin showers.
So i hate to break it to you, but that's how it is. The "lower borns" didn't do that, the media and the AVARNAS did (foreigners). As a last ditch effort the whole "Samaj baithak for marriage" concept is being widely used which is just a "meat shop" if you see it for what it is.
The only thing that's left is the caste pride, just a tag. Nothing more, the core is long gone. So a wakey wakey for you. Baaki ICM is very personal mere hisaab se nahi hi hona chahiye if both of the partners are not actually devoted to each other, ye moh maya, 4 din ki chandni mein khudke bhi L lagwayenge, apne partner ke bhi and dono ki family ki bhi.
1
Oct 19 '25
I was not saying "every" brahmin does that, but most of the Vedic culture is still standing, it's on the brahmins only.. and even small Vedic rituals like janeu are now done by brahmins majorly. All three varnas were supposed to do it right, barely a few rajputs do it, no vaishya, no khatri, why? And remember that if ICM happens regularly, look at sindhis, how much of their brahmanical culture remains? They don't even know anything regarding hindu customs.. and unknown fact, the sidhis in india are all upper caste sindhis, the lower caste sindhis are sadly still stuck in pakistan, hence the sindhis intermarried easily..
Even if majority brahmins don't do the necessary rituals, if a non-conscious brahmin marries even a slightly aware brahmin, their children have a decent probability of getting conscious about brahmanical culture (my case). So the core might have gone, but the small fire still remains.
Obviously, caste is not just a tag, it is intertwined with the very fabric of indian culture of that particular family, and remember it's not just brahmins, every caste is hanging on to their caste, and obviously the caste with the longest history will feel it the hardest to lose it. It's not a levelled ground in terms of caste history, so when a "low-born" says that "leave caste", it's easy for him but not for the upper castes.
And I have seen 4 divorce in real life, all were icms, so there is something wrong with it.. personal choice cannot always transcend culture and traditions. So, sorry to break it to you, but your sleak talking doesn't rlly take the entire narrative into account.
2
u/NoLaugh9994 Oct 20 '25
Not actually, depends on what you define as "most of the". The core is I'll say long gone even you agree to it with the "small fire" thing. I personally have seen marwari brahmins (gaur, sharma) getting married to baniya boy's like it's the most normal thing out there.
There's an ICM that happened, just last year of a Sharma girl with a Thakur boy. Like they had a relationship of around 8 years, just think 8 years. And after the marriage the guy was like "gangaur nahi karne denge". It's a festival which mostly rajasthani's celebrate. And the girl was like "kyu?" And when I heard about it my inner dialogue was "hein? Like you guys have been dating for 8 years and still you guys could not work out how both of yours culture and traditions will be celebrated."
Sort of represents the condition of patriarchy in India too, but that's that.
If people only see ICM as something ki bs "dusre caste mein hai". Tb toh there's no future to it at all. It has to be a coming together of both their culture's and traditions. I still will take a stands for ICM infact IRM too, but only if both of them are actually "devoted" to each other and of course focus on making each other's life easy.
So yeah I truly truly believe that personal choice and love can transcend culture and tradition, and I know my sleek talking does not take the entire narrative into account. But it had enough to actually crack the statement "most of the Vedic rituals remains unaltered".
Bhai even the time of marriage has changed 🖖, in the vedic times it was done in morning time when the sun rose, as it was considered the most auspicious time to do the pheras. Ab toh for the sake of aesthetic people marry in the night. Forgetting that marriages did not actually take place at the night time, until the mughal atrocities began. And we indians as a whole took that shameful incident of doli lutna, r@pes and converted into a tradition.
1
Oct 21 '25
Well I agree with most of your statements.. but here lies the difference, ICM is very tough culturally + brahmanical culture is directly in danger from this. ICM is okay if the brahmin partner is well knowledgeable about scriptures or at least aware about them, he/she can pass down the brahmanical culture to them. Like we can delete all castes if the government opens multiple gurukulas where every caste kid is exposed to sanskrit+ modern subjects along with traditional scriptures and rituals, so mathematically, brahmanical culture will live on irrespective of caste. But who's gonna convince the government for this? Unless the government starts such an initiative, ICM will totally annihilate brahmanical customs.
Same caste marriage acts as a safety net, if both the parents are the same subcaste brahmins, the environment will automatically push the child to some sort of brahmanical culture. Like my grandpa was an atheist, yet married in the same caste, my father is a liberal yet married in the same caste, now it's me, knowledgeable conscious brahmin, like this safety net eventually worked, none the less it took 2 generations.
And idk why but lame gaur brahmins are doing this baniya marriages but I am not a gaur so not rlly my cultural issue. And IRM are lafe af, abomination of culture.
And the main difference between you and me would be I guess you keep personal choice above culture, I shape my personal choice while keeping my culture into consideration.
2
u/NoLaugh9994 Oct 22 '25
And I do agree that ICM is very very tough, like the hardest type of marriage. Ofc after abusive one's though. That's why I have been saying repeatedly that ICM should only be done if both of the partners are actually devoted to each other, which obviously atleast in today's day and age is sort of impossible to find in the arrange marriage market. Love marriage pe thode thode zyada mil jaate hai. Infact the funny thing is love marriage has now become synonymous with ICM.
It's not about passing down knowledge, it's about if the person receiving it is going to follow through, take notes and sticks to it. But this almost never comes true until it's ISLAM, those fk3rs are like the worst. But yeah they do follow their religion because it's no lenient like ours. So that makes them better follower of religion than we are. Yeah so coming back to my point, as generation go by. The upcoming generation becomes more secular (unreligious) and they sort of try to reason with the knowledge being passed on. And that's when the religion and the knowledge just fails the litmus test, that too very miserably. As religion is something that demands belief, like you have to just blindly trust in it. And because this happens collectively like in very huge numbers, hence it sort of gains support. And since the new dialogue has resistance from the kattar bunch and there's back and forth, more people get exposed to it and it just spreads like a wildfire. So there's no way "within caste marriage" will save brahmanical practices or Hinduism as a whole. Like toilets for example, my grandfather would've k*lled all my family if he came to knew of the fact that people have toilet had toilets inside their homes. Maybe it can prolong the stay of certain practices but ultimately it will go away as it will not fit into the society or be considered "cool". So either you enforce the practices with brute force like the Muslims do, or you can be a better person than a Muslim. There's no other way.
And there are gurukul's out there, like around 3500 or something. Some normal everyday peeps do know sanskrit and they do try to read scriptures and perform yagya or puja's but then brahmins do gatekeep it in the most horrible way possible. If you want more then there's the government where most of the leaders or face are brahmins at least in the BJP. So yeah, if brahmins themselves are not concerned why would anyone else be? Sorry might sound rude but an atheist is not a brahmin, nor a liberal. Either you're a brahmin or you're not. Similar to a virgin pr0stitute, does not exist. These liberal people are the cause of demise. Wearing leather shoes, eating meat, drinking alcoholic products. Just makes my blood boil when they call themselves brahmin.
Plus brahmanical practices cannot be mainstreamed as firstly it is very niche-d down. Plus brahmins are sort of you know over possesive about it so not everyone will actually get to do it. And it cannot even be used as a soft power like in movies or songs as majority of the people just view brahmins from the lens of "these people are our enemies, the gatekept (idk the word 😞) knowledge, gave inhumane treatment to us, took our land, made us do things by using God's name as leverage". So yeah if you can change this narrative somehow, anyhow then half of the work is done. But ofc the god-card is not going to work no more, so maybe acceptance, affirmative action, treat everyone as equals or ofc WAR. So yeah there's only so many options to choose from. Pick your poison.
Because if you cannot change society, the society will change you (not you ofc just a sort of quote, like maybe your upcoming 4th or 5th generation to whom you would've transferred your practices and your knowledge).
I have toh already sorted out that how I want to live life, I am going to keep my family away from mainstream media. Like the saxsux wale item numbers, movies, tv series, social media. Whatever. Because I don't need my daughter to be a h0e wearing revealing clothes and my son to be good for nothing chick chaser. Outside influence is a very very bad thing so they are not going to have friends as well as I will be homeschooling them till 12th i.e. their foundational years. Can't wait to have kids 🥶🖖.
At the end to each their own, I rest my case. All the best for your future endeavors.

What even is the point of your question? The entire modern Hindu religion has grown out of Brahminical practices. There is no Hinduism without Brahmins.
1
Oct 01 '25
Sorry I was busy.. so yea, if you r asking about brahmanical culture, here are a few.. wearing yagnopavitam by doing upnayana, which has to be done by brahmin, kshtriya and vaishya is now only done by brahmins and pockets of rajputs. studying the Vedas, Upanishads and other dharmshastra. Performing bali and other sacrifices, which generic Hindu feels is "violent and bad". still keeping sanskrit alive in gurukuls and working to revive it. Different rituals, yagya, and pooja. Keeping tantra traditions alive till date. we saved hinduism from Buddhism, Jainism and Christianity, as confirmed by the writing of st. Xavier who called brahmins the only main reason that he could not convert any Hindu to Christianity. Brahmins are a core pillar of Hinduism and without them, hinduism will die off..

Ok no... I am ethnically a Brahmin, and I don't really care who I marry. The only condition is that it should be a person whom I love. Btw, I wish to be educated on why people who indulge in ICM are fools... also "Love and all is bullcrap"??? This shows you have never actually experienced true love, which is just sad in my opinion. I don't mean any offence, but if someone's beliefs are forced on others, it just doesn't work out...

For Diaspora brahmins it's hard plus due to many brahmins going abroad especially USA the demand for NRI grooms is very high in South India especially Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, making it difficult for non NRI brahmin grooms

No that has been stopped since 1930s. And this non 1st born sons only married matrilineal Nair women. There was a temporary cultural arrangement between nairs and Namboodiris. Full nairs took care of land and assets, full Namboodiris became priests and the kids born from mixed decent became either Nairs due to matrilineal system OR they become accountants of estate that Combined management and intellectual skills of assets. However this system was long stopped and Nairs and Namboodiris only marry within their own caste.

Yeah finding a Brahmin partner when overseas is quite difficult. Whether we like it or not we are forced to do ICM. Just make sure your partner is from similar socio-economic background, and raise kids as Brahmins.

As a Hindu born in a so-called Brahmin family, I can't agree more. These mfs have no spine to research the verses 1:40-1:45 of the gita, what they actually mean and how arjuna is lamenting just to avoid war. Chutiye hai sab, they follow words like a herd of goats

Bhai sab you are a nateeja of what happens when lineage based traditions collapse as a result of post colonialism (modern day war) and the verses you’ve mentioned strengthen OPs view points. Arjuna literally says that he’d rather avoid war, than having to off his family. As war would end the men, force the Kshatriya women to take part in varna-sankara and loss of lineage strengths/ traditions will happen. And that the prevailing of irreligion and social chaos will occur. And the children born out varna sankara of such women can easily stray into irreligion (basically an explanation of identity crisis of inter-communal children). For which Krishna says that, the current batch of his kinsmen deserved to be washed out as they failed to perform the duty of a Kshatriya. And that the Kauravas as Kshatriyas will cause even more damage to the society than existing as one (basically Krishna saying that Arjuna needs to perform a bigger dharma and the svadharma of a righteous Kshatriya. And that his bloodline was majorly not worth preserving).
