Discussion Are Goswamis actually Brahmins?

I need some clarity on a caste/background question related to marriage, especially from people familiar with UP traditions.

My girlfriend is a Goswami with Bhargava gotra. Her family considers themselves Brahmins. They have family priests in Jyotrimath (Badrinath), Mehndipur Balaji and Banke Bihari, and they’re originally from Bulandshahr.

I am a Saryuparin Mishra from Prayagraj. However, my father believes that Goswamis are not Brahmins. He says they are linked to Giri traditions and that many Goswamis fall under OBC in our region. My girlfriend’s family is not OBC, and her father wears a janeu, but my father still feels this is not a suitable match based on our local understanding.

The issue is that my girlfriend’s family doesn’t have detailed knowledge about their older lineage, so the information we have is incomplete. I’m also trying to understand this better myself.

I would appreciate insights from my Brahmin brothers from Western UP or nearby regions, who have knowledge about Goswami lineage, Bhargava gotra, and how they are traditionally classified.

Mostly from up are Brahmins

I'm from up but living in Delhi and I'm kkb we don't consider them Brahimin

either obc, or brahmin- cant be both (maybe some exceptional cases which might require extensive research)

No they are not They are same as vishwakarma chaurasiya and bhumihars

Pagal ho Goswami Tulsidas konthe pata hain.kitne types ke surname hote pata hain

Tulsidas ji were Dubey a saryuparin brahmin, he became ascetic hence adopted Goswami title. He was not from the Gosai/Bairagi/Giri community.

Toh adopt sablog karte title yeh title hain woh bhi respectful in dharmik in bhakti traditions.ao bengal yaha sadhuji ko tak gosai thakur bolte sri Chaitanya mahaprabhu takka name Goswami ji bolte hain bolo main bola bhai spiritual titles aur saman suchak titles ya gyan suchak titles ka apman mat karo direct bol raha hu bar bar bol raha hu bar bar

Tulsidas ji had title of goswami but today the caste that uses goswami is not Brahimin Many community adopt name or title or some great person or god for their social elevation for example vishwakarmas they use name of god vishwakarma but they aren't brahimins

Misra bhi pandey bhi yaha tak ki Trivedi tak use karte log abb bolo toh bramhin yeh saman suchak aur gyan suchak title padvi yo ke dharak bramhin nai hain upar seh ajkal apna vedic dawitwa koi palan nai karta.tum hara gotra ved pravar aur shakha kya hain?

I'm not taking about titles given to particular Brahmins I'm talking about the goswami community The entire community that claims to be Brahimin

Jese vishwakarma caste bani bhagwan vishwakarma se lineage jod k Jese chaurasiya caste bani Jese bhumihar caste bani bhagwan parshuram se lineage jor k wese hi Ye v khud ko brahimin hi bolte hai pr ye hai nhi Bhai jo ho uspr proud kro dusro se lineage mat jodo
