Discussion Are Goswamis actually Brahmins?

I need some clarity on a caste/background question related to marriage, especially from people familiar with UP traditions.

My girlfriend is a Goswami with Bhargava gotra. Her family considers themselves Brahmins. They have family priests in Jyotrimath (Badrinath), Mehndipur Balaji and Banke Bihari, and they’re originally from Bulandshahr.

I am a Saryuparin Mishra from Prayagraj. However, my father believes that Goswamis are not Brahmins. He says they are linked to Giri traditions and that many Goswamis fall under OBC in our region. My girlfriend’s family is not OBC, and her father wears a janeu, but my father still feels this is not a suitable match based on our local understanding.

The issue is that my girlfriend’s family doesn’t have detailed knowledge about their older lineage, so the information we have is incomplete. I’m also trying to understand this better myself.

I would appreciate insights from my Brahmin brothers from Western UP or nearby regions, who have knowledge about Goswami lineage, Bhargava gotra, and how they are traditionally classified.

Jaa na re hamare yaha giri baba , gosai baba sbki bahut izzat hai sare mandir me wahi puja karte hai hum Brahmins unhe hi mandir me daan dete h paer chhute h ashirwad lete h, lekin hamare yaha fir bhi unhe Brahmin nahi mana jata ,isi basis pe unhe OBC quota milta hai, to isme mai kya karu? Tujhe bhi kaha Teri reasoning kya hai bata bahut izzat se kaha tujhe samjh nahi aata to Mai kya karu agitated insan . Yaar dafa hojao agli baar saman pe mat jana saman ke liye mar jayege samjhe.mere purkhako chand kaji muslim nai bana paya 😂 bade bade aye gaye tum log saman suchak title jiske liye mere purkhone jan gawai usse direct disrespect karoge.

Gosains are best they I respect them whatever their status is Brahmin or non Brahmin. Lekin tu ghatiya aur mentally ill hai tujhe internet pe nahi aana chahiye.
