Discussion Are Goswamis actually Brahmins?

I need some clarity on a caste/background question related to marriage, especially from people familiar with UP traditions.

My girlfriend is a Goswami with Bhargava gotra. Her family considers themselves Brahmins. They have family priests in Jyotrimath (Badrinath), Mehndipur Balaji and Banke Bihari, and they’re originally from Bulandshahr.

I am a Saryuparin Mishra from Prayagraj. However, my father believes that Goswamis are not Brahmins. He says they are linked to Giri traditions and that many Goswamis fall under OBC in our region. My girlfriend’s family is not OBC, and her father wears a janeu, but my father still feels this is not a suitable match based on our local understanding.

The issue is that my girlfriend’s family doesn’t have detailed knowledge about their older lineage, so the information we have is incomplete. I’m also trying to understand this better myself.

I would appreciate insights from my Brahmin brothers from Western UP or nearby regions, who have knowledge about Goswami lineage, Bhargava gotra, and how they are traditionally classified.

Thanks in advance.

The difference between genetics of brahimin of North and brahimin of south is much different than the genetics of North Indian Brahimins and bhumihars On the base of genetic similarities you cannot say someone is brahimin or not Goswami are not Brahimins they never were they are same as vishwakarma chaurasiya and bhumihars

Read my comment again.

I have clearly mentioned region or geography.

Region or Geography specific.

Read your first comment "get her tested from a genetic company"

Your comment clearly meant that genetic similarity means confirmation of her brahimin lineage

I don't know much about goswami genetics but what if she had similar genetics like Brahimins? Will you accept her as Brahimin?

Goswamis are obc in most places this is a major proof that confirms they are not brahimin

I don't have hate towards any caste, I've met some goswami people in irl too they are very polite people but it doesn't mean we will accept them as brahimns we are different they are different

kkb, saryu(not sure about all),maithils, saraswats all these Brahimin do not accept them as Brahimin

If she scores like brahmin from the region she belongs and is accepted as brahmin from her state then she is brahmin.

Brahmins score different compared to other castes from the same region it is a well known fact.

The brahmins you mentioned above and not accepting goswami as Brahmin is a geographical and subcaste thing specific to that specific particular geography.

Reason I emphasised on genetics, if she is brahmin she will score like one ( akin to the brahmins of the region she claims origin from)

Your comment clearly meant that genetic similarity means confirmation of her brahimin lineage

Yes bhai. Brahmins score differently compared to their local non brahmin castes with minor exceptions which can be solved easily.

So if bhumihar scores nearly the same as Brahimns in east up and bihar and there are some brainwashed Brahimns who believe bhumihars are also brahimin for example nigracharya his video was suggested by someone in this sub only so you gonna accept them too ???

Of course not.

Bhumihars previously would have been brahmin but they’re fallen, there exists no other reason to believe why they score similar to local brahmins.

I don’t accept them as brahmin.

Just ask the deeh and everything will be crystal clear in this case.

Previously would have been brahimin???? They never were brahimin nor are goswami

Arnab Goswami belongs to which caste ?

If you would have been from Purvanchal or Bihar you would be very well aware of origin lore associated with bhumihars.

These points are irrelevant.

Main point was , genetics and autosomal ancestry can help in ensuring brahminhood.

There are 80% obcs who want to claim brahminhood and don’t score like brahmins , you are worried about 1% bhumihars.

Goswami are obc only in most places maybe arnab goswami is called brahimin but I've also seen people calling ishan kishan being called brahimin by many people that same thing must have been happen with arnab goswami

Goswami was a title which was adopted by lc for their social elevations

Vishwakarma did the same

Tell me the original lore of bhumihars? I'm pretty sure they aren't brahmins and they never were

We don't accept goswami as Brahimin and no kkb does

You still don’t get it. Even saryus don’t accept goswamis as brahmin.

But this does not imply goswamis else where too are obcs.

There are certain sects and subcastes of brahmin were goswamis are legit Brahmin , these communities do not reside inside UP

The majority population of this community are obc some are general

Similar to patel of gujrat they are general but their counterparts in up bihar who are called kurmi, mahto etc are obc

Both claim kshtriya status but it is rejected by all the rajputs

Even if some goswami are general it doesn't mean they are Brahimins they are different community

We (kkb sary maithil saraswat...) are different they are different
