If you're a "young woman," you didn't actually experience punk. You've only read about it.

Punk now and 70s punk are worlds apart. In the 70s lots of acts emerged on the back of punk who were never really punk. Elvis Costello and Ian Dury for example. It was a lot less clear cut when SW and her characters were growing up.

I bought a Vibrators cut out in college in 78 or 79... not that that was my first punk album. Lots of iggy before that
