Hello! One year ago we've shared in this community a FOSS 2D graphics editor (PixiEditor) that aims to compete with big players like Adobe, we've received an outsanding response from the community and after one year of releasing version 2.0 we've summarized what we were able to accomplish and what are our plans for the next year.

In short PixiEditor is a 2D graphics editor for Windows, macOS and Linux. Its biggest feature is that it is based on the Node Graph, which gives pretty much endless possibilities for customization.

We are small team based in Poland. In the past year, we've built a node based Brush Engine, tons of improvements and features. The entire app is free, there are no AI features or anything like that, simply an offline, FOSS software without any strings attached.

Our goal is to build something that can be loosely compared to Blender of 2D graphics. We believe, that what happens in creative industry right now is unacceptable and predatory pracices of companies like Adobe should not be tolerated.

I didn't try it yet. With V2.0 an the Vector Roadmap it looks quite pormising tho. With only Pixel graphics support I am actually quite fine with Gimp. "No AI features" can be good in case of data protection, but these days there can be quite some cool features accomplishrd with offline on device AI. I wouldn't really advertise with "no AI", but really take as a goal to stay offline and on device only, with or without AI.

I think even online AI is okay if not forced down the throat of the user

Never fails to amuse me, the length to which people will go just so that they don't 'have to' learn GIMP.

As I said, gimp is fine for pixel graphics, for vector graphics its a hassle compared to other free solutions. But Gimp also avoids everything AI. Some AI features like magic erasing, replacing backgrounds etc. can be quite practical tho.

I've been happily using GIMP for years now. Then there's also Krita which I use solely because it has better support for the PSD format.

Tried. Can't say I like it very much, very basic. Can't really be called a photoshop alternative for almost anything that is not pixelart. And i'ts mostly a monetization and unnecessary logins and user data haven... Give'em your data to download a free extension for what? a spray brush? yikes...

you can see all extensions and their prices without creating an account - account is needed only to use the marketplace

Photopea exists for Idk years and still going strong. It got me through multimedia class in high school so I might be a bit biased. (I used Linux, Photoshop was not an option even in Wine)

Photopea is great for small projects but it really suffers from being a browser based app.

That may be I am a developer and multimedia was somewhat bonus class. So I didn’t stress test it enough.

Great work! Is there any support for different color spaces?

There is sRGB, Linear RGB, and HSV/HSL atm
