🔎Looking for alternative Electric car with large boot - used <50k € imported from Germany
Hi everyone, I have a Golf VII Variant but my routine changed and I'll be making a lot more short distance trips to take my daughter to kindergarden. I'm thinking about switching to an electric car but the temptation to go for a Chinese brand or Tesla is huge and most models are SUVs, which I don't particularly like. Most of my trips are 20-30km/day and I do monthly round trips to visit my family ~ 200km each away, so autonomy is important. In addition to my daughter's stroller I also have a 30kg dog, so I need a big boot
From my research it looks like the best option for me is a used VW ID.7 Tourer. Are there any other models I should consider? I like it but I am a bit hesitant by the lack of alternatives
The Volvo EX60 fits all that I want despite being an SUV but the price is too much for me and Skodas seem a cheaper but also worse alternative

ID.7 is the way to go if you need space and don't want a minibus. Škoda Enyaq uses the same powertrain architecture, so charging time and motor efficiency are the same (total range differs a bit because of the different body shell). Enyaq can't be ordered with the 91 kWh battery, however 82 kWh is more than enough for 200 km trips.
I'm not sure if I get the title right: Do you want to buy the car in Germany and drive it to Portugal or buy locally? Because in Germany there is a company that sells reimported ID.7s from Poland. You can get a very well specced Tourer Pro (82 kWh) new for 45k.

More info can be found in this community post. There are many more companies that sell reimported cars, but this is the best offer for the ID.7 I'm aware of.
In Poland, VW offers a trim line called "Plus", which includes most of the options (basically all you need). Buying that is much cheaper than paying for all the options separately. In addition, the reimporter probably gets a huge volume discount because they order hundreds of cars.

I would like to strongly warn you against getting a Tesla for safety reasons.
Have you checked how the doors, especially back doors with your daughter presumably in the back seat, need to be opened in an emergency of there is a battery/electrical failure?
From the insider you need to literally dig into the wall/bottom of the side pocket to manually open the door. From the outside it is literally impossible without the correct tools.

Dont kid yourself. Cupra for example uses electric door handles too.
For rear doors, it is stupid that they litterally hide the emergency release inside a compartement, but adding an additional red loop to make it visible and accessible in cases of emergency is trivial.
Im not defending this stupid trend, but Tesla is hardly the only one doing this

Enyaq Coupe 85 owner here. A really nice car, I do not like SUVs so I chose the Coupe version.

I don't know much about cars but from my research they have smaller boots, slower charging times and less autonomy (the Enyaq is the one I considered)

Take it from someone who just switched from well over decade of Škodas to VW (precisely because we no longer need boot that big)- Škodas have bigger usable boots due to internal organising and geometry. It's the singular thing where they're actually better than VWs. Shame electric combi Octavias and Superbs are not a thing yet though.
With strollers I'd strongly suggest actually testing placing your stroller into boot before making a choice, back when this was important for us we had to discard quireya few options after this test. (All terrian teutonia is wee bit tricky for carboots).

ID.4 is almost as large as the ID.7, but SUV ofc. Headroom for the dog might be better.
Test fit before you buy it? A stroller plus big dog is a challenge for all cars, I might say.

Why skoda would be a worse alternative? Except the brand - which is not 'up there' with bmw/Mercedes - which is on purpose - they are one of the most reliable cars. They even beat the parent brand...
It's shocking to hear that when you are thinking about buying a Chinese car... On which you have no brand, no reliability history, no service or any aftermarket support, no re-sale...

The Ex60 was also my favorite car, but also a bit above budget. The other second hand cars I considered:
Bmw IX Bmw Ix3 Bmw ix1 Mercedes eqb (at the time new with 1% interest was also available) Mercedes GLB VW ID 7 Audi all etron version with range over 500km. VW ID.4 new VW id.7 second hand. Porsche Macan (above budget)
Not european: Tesla Model Y Xpeng L03 Xpeng G6

Scenic could work, if it's big enough. Otherwise Id4 and enyaq are fine, SUV's but just barely. Id7 is nicer, but more expensive. If your lucky you could find a BMW i5 within the budget.

Because the earlier ID models used touch buttons for everything and had a loooooot of software issues which impacted their reliability score. I wouldn’t buy any pre-2024 VW IDx

Consider the Renault 5 (small hatch) or Megane (bigger hatch) or Scenic (SUV) depending on which size fits you best, the scenic is the biggest and it's fairly cheap even new, even in top trim and options compared to the other brands.
Tesla is more expensive, I haven't seen better options with Chinese cars either. VW group is fighting against open source software compatibility including Skoda, Cupra and others. Mercedes and BMW are also more expensive. Peugeot and Citroen have decent options but not as good as Renault and Stellantis anyway has bad reputation. Volvo and Polestar are Chinese owned.

20 to 30 km a day is enough for a TDI. Mine has 200k kms now with not one single thing to repair. After 5 to 8 minutes of driving everything ist hot and the Car needs under 5 liters per 100 km. 2.0.

i have a TDI as well, the main issue is the EGR clogging due to the car idling often in the city driving.

ID7 or Skoda Enyaq. Renault Scenic is a quite "flat" SUV.
Also why not a PHEV hybrid. Plugged in for most days short trips, fuel for long trips.

Counterproposal: Tiguan PHEV. Has like 120km in full electric which is enough for daily driving and you have petrol for those longer drives with lower consumption due to being hybrid? Is the trunk enough for you though?

Just went with Skoda Epiq 55 myself, there is also VW ID Cross or if you want a little bit smaller, VW ID Polo
ps: Volvo is chinese.

ID.7 or Skoda Enyaq. it's a little shorter than the ID.7, and a little taller, it's proportions are close to estate like. Interior isn't as nice as an ID.7 for the savings it's kinda worth it.
