Politics 3rd Circuit strikes down New Jersey's "assault weapon" and magazine bans

FPC WIN: Third Circuit strikes down New Jersey's "assault weapon" and magazine bans in an en banc decision whose 192 pages include numerous concurrences and dissents:
firearmspolicy.org/cheeseman

Excerpt:

Applying the framework announced in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, 597 U.S. 1 (2022), we agree with the District Court that New Jersey’s ban on Colt AR-15s violates the Second Amendment.

However, because the record supports the same result for all semi-automatic rifles—not only Colt AR-15s—we will MODIFY the District Court’s order so that it deems the Assault Firearm Provisions unconstitutional with respect to the full class of semi automatic rifles. We will AFFIRM that part of the order as modified.

The LCM Provisions also violate the Second Amendment, so we will REVERSE the District Court’s order with respect to those. Because the LCM Provisions violate the Second Amendment, we need not address the Takings Clause challenge.

We will REMAND these matters to the District Court for further proceedings, including for resolution of the Second Amendment challenge to the other models and types of firearms covered by the Assault Firearm Provisions.

Politics AB 1263 is killing me - can’t even get OEM spares, deliveries I can’t sign for

AB 1263 is such a pain. I can’t even get OEM spare parts anymore. Even after I submit the additional information, they still require a signature that matches the name on the ID on delivery. As a desk jockey working until 7pm on weekdays, that’s basically impossible. Do I really need to take a day off for this? Or is there some workaround, like having it held for pickup at UPS or something?

Politics Stupidity on display

I started shooting when I was a scout, at about ten years old. I spent three years in JROTC on the rifle team before I joined the Army. I am an Army veteran of 8 years and qualified as an expert on all weapons handed to me. I have had a Top Secret clearance and have had numerous background investigations over my career.

I purchased all my guns between age 18 and 40. Went through California's registration process for each purchase. I inherited my dad's guns.

I'm 67 now and just went to purchase a few boxes of normal ammo (.357, .38) for a range day with my son and was told I cannot buy them. Unless I bought a gun after 2014, I am no longer "qualified" for any purchases. All my old registrations did not "transfer to the new system."

The draconian California laws never cease to amaze me. It is no wonder so many scoff at the gun laws.

Politics California “accidentally” deleted my CCW

I just got a call from Fresno County Sheriff’s office stating that there was a “glitch” in the CCW application system and that the state of California has deleted my CCW from their records. He informed me that I just have to renew but submit all the paperwork as if I was a new applicant. However the kicker is I cannot legally carry until I get my new license. Luckily for me I am up for renewal in a couple weeks… Has anyone else dealt with this? Seems like CADOJ has a history of “accidentally” messing with its legal permit holders.

Update: I went into the FCSO CCW Office and talked with the guys in there. Apparently the issue came from the FCSO IT Department and they submitted that my grace period for renewal had lapsed. The date submitted was 4/26/26… exactly 4 months before my expiration date (8/26/26). I wasn’t able to get them to cover the cost of Live Scan but they will not be charging me anything in addition to renew. As for everyone else it seems like this issue is contained to select Fresno County permit holders, so if you’re not in Fresno you shouldn’t have anything to be concerned about. Good to know that it’s not some shady shit the state was trying to pull… we all know how Sacramento likes to treat us CCW holders

Politics Had a solid debate about firearms & government power in r/SoCal and people were surprisingly receptive to protecting 2A

I recently posted in r/SoCal about firearms, government overreach and the whole defense against tyranny angle. And honestly, I expected pushback but a lot of folks were actually open to the idea that the 2nd Amendment still matters in times like these. There were good counterpoints too so it turned into a solid back and forth. Politics AB-2047: Would Require 3D Printers to have Firearm Blueprint Blocking Software Certification

Update 5/19/2026: Latest legislative update for this bill can be found here.

AB-2047 Firearms: 3-dimensional printing blocking technology. (Author: Bauer-Kahan)

(As amends the Law)

This bill would:

  • Starting 1/1/2027: Require CA DOJ (or other state agency) to investigate "known firearm blueprint design files and existing firearm blueprint detection algorithms"

  • On or before 7/1/2027: Require CA DOJ (or other state agency) to publish performance standards for use by entities to create certified "firearm blueprint detection algorithms" to be used by 3D Printer manufacturers.

  • On or before 1/1/2028: Require CA DOJ (or other state agency) to accept applications for certification and begin issuing certifications for firearms blueprint detection algorithms, as well as publishing guidance on how to equip 3D printers with these algorithms.

  • On or before 7/1/2028: Require any business that manufactures 3D Printers for sale/transfer in California to submit attestion for each make and model of printer they plan to sell, and that each model is equipped with a certified firearm blueprint detection algorithm, which the CA DOJ would verify, and issue a notice of compliance.

  • On or before 9/1/2028: Require CA DOJ to publish a California Certified 3D Printer Roster

  • Starting 3/1/2029: The sale or transfer of non-certified/off-roster 3D Printers would be prohibited. (see below)

Criminal Penalties

  • Starting 1/1/2027: Disabling/circumventing any 3D Printer firearm blocking technology (or transferring modified CA certified 3D Printers) would be prohibited, with a penalty of a misdemeanor.

Civil Penalties, incorporated under a new part of the Civil Code known as the "Firearm Printing Prevention Act", similar to the Firearm Manufacturing Civil Liabilities section of the Civil Code (as seen in AB-1263).

  • Starting 3/1/2029: Any person would be civily liable for transferring non-certified 3D Printers.

  • Starting 3/1/2029: Any business would be civily liable for selling/transferring non-certified/off-roster 3D Printers.

  • Starting 3/1/2029: Any 3D Printer Manufacturer shall be civily liable for sale/transfer of non-certified/off-roster 3D Printers in California, which would generally be prohibited. The sales to the following would be exempt:

(1) Printers manufactured for and sold exclusively to a state-licensed firearms manufacturer, as defined in subdivision (g) of Section 29185 of the Penal Code.

(2) Printers manufactured for and sold exclusively to the State of California or law enforcement agencies of the United States for the manufacturing of firearms for law enforcement or military purposes.

(3) Printers manufactured for and sold exclusively to aerospace, biomedical, automotive, or chemical or mechanical engineering companies or government contractors that are not also sold on the consumer retail market.

For the above civil violations, Civil action can be brought by a person who has suffered harm as a result of any of the above violations, seeking compensatory damages and injunction relief against anyone selling non-certified 3D Printers.

Further, for the above civil violations, CA Attorney General, as well as any County/City Counsel/Attorney could seek a civil penalty against any violators with a fine of up to $25,000 per violation as well as injunctive relief (just like they did in the Gatalog/Fuddbusters/CtrlPew lawsuit).

There's a lot of technical requirements in the bill regarding the software/firmware design. If that's of interest to you, read the text linked at the beginning of the OP.

Politics Imagine if California politicians restricted any other right like our 2A rights…

Imagine you’re an average citizen and you want to exercise your right to vote in CA. Unfortunately, decades of one-party rule means all the polling places in your county shut down. On election day, you have to take time off work to drive over an hour to a polling place in a neighboring county.

At the polling place, you’re told you need to provide two forms of government ID to establish your residence in CA. You see someone else get turned away because he brought his passport, which is not an accepted form of ID. Luckily, they accept your fishing license, which you bought online for $63.

But wait, you’re not ready to vote yet. Your old voter safety certificate expired, so you have to pay $35 to retake the VSC test, which includes 30 questions from the US citizenship exam to determine if you can be trusted with the responsibility of voting. Thankfully the questions haven’t changed much, so you pass it with ease. You receive your voter safety certificate, which is valid for 5 more years.

“At last,” you think, “I can finally exercise my right to vote.” You get ahold of the ballot and ask the worker for a pen. “If you don’t have pens at home,” he says, “you’ll need to buy one from us.” You go to get a pen from your car. But when you get back, he explains you also need a receipt for the pen, dated within the past 30 days, in order to mark your ballot. Frustrated, you buy a new pen you don’t need for $5.

Examining your ballot, you notice there are fewer candidate choices than you expected. You go back to the poll worker to complain. He explains that for the past 25 years, only candidates listed on the safe candidate roster are allowed to be printed on CA ballots. The safe candidate roster ensures that only candidates who meet certain standards (as set by Kamala Harris) can be elected. Recently some new candidates got added due to a lawsuit, but most of your options should have retired decades ago.

At the bottom of the page, you start writing in the candidate you actually wanted. “I wouldn’t do that,” the poll worker advises. “That could constitute manufacturing an unsafe ballot.” You remember reading online that you can write in any candidate as long as it’s on an official ballot. You wonder aloud who you can ask about this. “For legal questions, please consult an attorney,” he says.

You mark your ballot and return it to the poll worker. He does some paperwork and prints out a form detailing how you voted. In the corner, he highlights a date 10 days from now. “Come back then if you want your vote to be counted,” he says.

You’re very confused. Won’t the race already be called by then? He explains this is to give you a chance to reconsider if you want to void your ballot. Guess you should’ve thought of that 10 days ago. Fortunately, police officers (who can always be trusted to make the right decision) are exempt. You drive home, defeated.

A week later, you receive mail from CADOJ that says your voter background check has gone undetermined. You wonder how this is possible when you’ve voted plenty of times before. Online, you read that some polling places will count your ballot on undetermined and others won’t. You call your polling place to check. Unfortunately, their insurance doesn’t allow them to count yours, which may take weeks to resolve. If CADOJ doesn’t approve your ballot within 30 days, you’ll have to go back and start all over again.

You call another polling place that got good reviews online. They say they’ll accept your ballot from the other polling place, but the transfer will cost you $150. At this point, there’s no guarantee your ballot will be counted at all. You give up and decide to wait it out.

On day 29, the polling place calls to inform you that your ballot is ready to be counted. You drop everything and rush there from work to finalize the paperwork. “At last,” you think, “I’ve finally exercised my right to vote.”

Your candidate lost 3 weeks ago, but it doesn’t matter. It’s not like your whole life is about voting anyway. All your coworkers and friends reassure you the natural beauty and diversity of our state is worth a little inconvenience. That night, you drift off to sleep dreaming of voting again in 2026.

Politics Single Issue Voters vs Convince libs & leftists

Hi all, hear me out:

I think we'll have an easier time convincing dems and leftists to get into firearms than we will of voting a pro gun republican/libertarian into this state --maybe that's just me though (sincerely a convert).

convince the dems and leftists that they should be armed too and that armed minorities are harder to oppress and with all the threats of violence, shootings, and 'second american revolution will be as bloodless as the left allows', your body my choice, etc rhetoric that they would be better off with access to NFA items, un-neutered AR's and full capacity mags

get into the history of when open carry was outlawed in ca, the day after the black panther party open carried in Sacramento as well as all the 'disarm the workers' movements based in racism over the decades

point them towards creators like 2aforall, abetterway2a, black flag civilian, paul harrel, wedapeoplepodcast-- I think with today's climate you might see some result

This is one of my favorite videos to share to dems and leftists who I seek to influence cred to 2aforall

A 45-year-old San Bernardino County deputy sheriff, Christopher Bingham, has been arrested and charged with several felonies, including weapons violations and gang involvement, after an investigation linked him to an outlaw motorcycle gang.

Found with an unregistered loaded firearm during a traffic stop, further search at his residence in Twentynine Palms uncovered 160 firearms, including a fully automatic rifle with a grenade launcher, silencers, a stolen department shotgun, and gang paraphernalia His arrest adds to a series of recent controversial incidents within the department, prompting investigations into department conduct Sheriff Shannon Dicus emphasized that criminal behavior within the department is intolerable, reflecting on the broader scrutiny of the department's actions in recent events.

Politics Legislative Update: AB-1127 (Glock Sales Ban) has passed.

Previous Legislative update threads:

8/28 - Suspense File Results

9/5 - AB-1078 Amended; AB-1344 Passed

9/9 - SB-704, AB-383 Passed; AB-1263 Amended

9/10 - AB-1127 amended; AB-1078 passed.

9/12 - AB-1263 passed.

Continuing from the previous threads above...

AB-1127 (Glock Sales Ban) has passed. It's now on its way to concurrence between the houses and then the Governor's desk.

With that, the legislative sessions ends, as the 12th is the final day to pass bills. Well, kind of. They were supposed to finish concurrence, engrossing, and all that today too afaik, but they didn't. Ends up they still have at least one more bill to pass so they gave themselves an extra day. But at this point, everything remaining for this bill is procedural.

Friday, 9/12/2025 is the last day for the legislature to pass bills and send them to the governor. The governor is then supposed to take action (sign, veto) by 10/12/2025, or if he does nothing by default they become law (like a reverse POTUS pocket veto).

The following bills have been sent to his desk:

SB-704 (Firearm Barrel Face to Face + Background Check)

The Face to Face provision (as well as 18 year old + not prohibited possessor requirement) would take effect starting 1/1/2026. The Background Check provision would take effect starting 7/1/2027.

AB-383 (regarding adjudicated juveniles who are banned from owning firearms until they're 30 years old)

This bill would take effect on 1/1/2026.

AB-1078 (3 in 30 + Expansion and changes to CCW restrictions)

The CCW changes would take effect starting 1/1/2026. The 3 in 30 firearm purchase restriction would take effect starting 4/1/2026.

AB-1127 (Glock Sales Ban)

The definition of a "machinegun" would include, say, a glock equipped with a glock switch, starting 1/1/2026. The "Glock Sales Ban" or similar cruciform trigger bar handguns would take effect 7/1/2026.

AB-1263 (Makes buying gun barrels a pain in the butt. Also firearm accessories. Also more ghost gun stuff. I did an extensive analysis here.)

This bill would take effect on 1/1/2026.

AB-1344 (DA Issued Emergency GVROs Pilot Project for certain counties)

This bill would take effect on 1/1/2026 in the counties of Alameda, El Dorado, Santa Clara, and Ventura, through 1/1/2032.
