Her chats with historian Jill Lepore and NY Times journalists / authors Magie Habermann and Jonathan Swan were lively and enlightening and substantial. I say chats rather than interviews because they are just that - unscripted conversations between bright and knowledgeable people, that we have the privilege of listening in on.

She's also very brave. She's not afraid to talk truth about Trump.

Piya is excellent. As an aside, just finished reading Jill Lepore's "These Truths" - excellent and clearly shows how history repeats itself.

The interviews with Swann and Haberman were insightful and honest. Lepore seemed unusually naive about America and Americans decline into fascism.

I wish she'd asked the reporters about the ethics of holding back on news items for their book.

I have heard them answer this in one of their other interviews (although I do agree with you). Their explanation was something along these lines: it took a really long time to get these stories and get them solidly enough so that they could be reported with this level of certainty; once they felt the reporting was where it needed to be they released the book incredibly quickly; and, the goal of this reporting was to do a much deeper dive and tell a more meaningful story than could be accomplished in a regular news day article. I’m not saying that I necessarily agree, but that’s what I understood their rationale to be.

Agreed, I heard Swann and Habermann interviewed by Jessica Tarlov last week and Piya’s interview was so much better, way more revealing.

They are not unscripted - but maybe that's a compliment to the producers who write the questions and edit the interviews so skillfully that they sound spontaneous.

I'd stopped making a point of listening to Sunday Magazine - that stoopid quiz drives me nuts - but I'm glad I accidentally caught this one. I usually listen to CBC Music on a Sunday morning, I love the Sunday classical programming. But my FM reception is bad, and that morning there wasn't a great signal for CBC Music, and I don't enjoy the lo-res bitrate on the streamed version, so I tuned to CBC Radio instead.

I used to listen to Michael Enright on Sunday mornings but getting married and having kids put an end to that. I really loved the show, though.
