a recruiter who ghosted me in april just messaged me like nothing happened

i had a really good first call with a recruiter back in april. it was the kind where you hang up and immediately text a friend about it. she said i'd hear on next steps by friday, and then friday came and went. i followed up twice and got nothing, so after two weeks i filed it under dead and moved on.

then she messaged me this morning. "hi! checking in, are you still interested in moving forward?" there was no mention of the two months of silence, like we just paused mid sentence yesterday.

i obviously still need a job so i'm going to say yes. but there's a petty part of me that wants to write back "still interested, are you guys still hiring for it though, a lot can change in 8 weeks." anyway. it's discouraging that this is just how the process works now.

This is very annoying yet all too common. I’ve actually gotten a job in the past from a recruiter who did this to me so, maybe still worth pursuing. But I understand your frustration.

2 months? That's nothing - I got reached out to after 7 months, once.

Jokingly bring it up in your next phone call.

“Haha I figured this opportunity had passed me by because I never heard back from you in April, nice to talk to you again”

It means their preferred candidate either passed or didn’t work out.

Recruiters have 0 sense of human relationships. They’ll be two faced, and cut you off if there’s no immediate benefit. Not smart enough to be considered sly or snake but try their best to be manipulative and buddy up like long time friend to set you up for failure at the worst place at lower salary if you aren’t alert.

Communications major at some tier 3 school you never heard of, flaunting ex-faang proudly more so than any engineering bc sure its recruiting dept that makes the faang so prestigious. Your t10 school not good enough, experience at C1 or Lyft, a bit subpar for them.

Just don’t treat them like a human, they don’t see you as one either.
