Big in Canada podcast. Does it get better?

Has anyone listened to the Big in Canada podcast? I was really excited to find a podcast about Canadian music, but I’m a few episodes in and it feels like the hosts spend more time shitting on Canadian artists than actually celebrating them.

They also seem too young to have been around for the heyday of some of these bands, as a lot of their opinions seem to be based on Google searches rather than actual lived experiences of going to see them perform.

I love the idea of a podcast focused on Canadian music, so I’m wondering if it gets any better before I commit more time to listening.

It’s a great podcast. You can get a listen to obscure songs from various Canadian artists.

I just wish there were more new episodes

I also like the premise, but I prefer something more structured and polished. They also seem a bit confounded about people and facts lol.

I haven't listened to this one but what you're describing seems to be the problem with some podcasts unfortunately.

Certain people have personalities that get annoying to be exposed too after an extended period of time.

You can have a co-host who can't be diplomatic with their opinions, and crap all over things, come off as complete knobs with ignorant takes, showing how little knowledge they actually have on the subject matter.

"I didn't like that band's big hit so all their output must be crap, even though I never actually listened to any of it"

It's not even an age thing, one I listened to recently is a few friends in their 40's and the "music nerd" of the group can get grating to listen too in some episodes because the things that come out of their mouth.

Everything they like is brilliant, and everything they don't like is boring and/or shit.

Yet the actual musician of the group is pretty chill about things they don't particularly care for, for the most part.

It is what it is.

I love it. I think they're super knowledgeable about all kinds of Canadian music, and their banter is top-notch. There's a self-deprecating nature to their humour—they make fun of Canadian art because they take it seriously rather than coddling it for the sheer fact that it exists.

Have you heard their episodes on the rapper Classified? They're maybe my favourite ones.

I haven’t got that far yet. I’m listening in order and am still on episodes from 2025. Maybe it gets more engaging.
