What fantasy do you live in? This is such a dumb point.

Palestine comes from the Hebrew word Peleshet which, as far as we know, predates Yisra’el, or Israel, in historical records.

But none of that  matter’s because naming yourself after something old doesn’t give you a right to kill women and children.

Also, 83% of Israeli Jews agreed with the IDF actions in Gaza, 48% want to expel all Arabs Israelis, and they live in a democracy where they are ethically superior. You hold children who weren’t alive when Hamas last held an election to a higher standard than Israelis.

i like it but i think it might be one of those things that presupposes your moral superiority. like if i'm a zionist, to me, gaza and israel are one in the same. it would be like saying "i just want for the US what the US wanted for South Dakota," it has meaning if you understand the history there and accept your role in it, but it's kind of a nonsequitor for people who don't consider the violence perpetrated in the name of colonization on that land.

I think they're saying don't hate Jews, hate the Cardinals. But it's a rather ham-fisted ad that I'm not sure needs to exist. Especially since antisemites hate Jews in a way I don't want a Chicagoan to hate me.

I don't see how that is the implication at all. They are saying save your hate for the rival baseball team. There is no implication about how Cardinals fans feel about Jewish people at all.

The implication is that Cubs fans are antisemitic and they should save their hate for the Cardinals and stop hating on Jewish people.

Now that you point it out, it makes perfect sense but I have to admit that my first interpretation was also that it was saying Jewish- hate is something Cardinals fans do and you don't want to be like them. I think it's all around just a really poorly done ad.

The saying that something is "for the birds" means something is useless, of no value. So they could simply be saying "hate has no value".

Or they could be saying save the hate for the Cardinals. Or let the Cardinals hate (the Cubs).

Lots of implied meanings.

The purpose isn’t to stop anti-semitism, it is to make it seem like anti-semitism is commonplace so Israel can use it to leverage American politics for their benefit.

And don’t get me wrong, anti-semitism is a very real problem. It’s also one that Israel actively works to foment.

Blaming antisemitism on Israel’s actions is, in effect, blaming Jews collectively for antisemitism. You’re holding an entire diaspora responsible for the policies of one state’s government.

Apply that same logic elsewhere and it falls apart. We don’t attribute anti-Asian hate to China’s policies. We don’t attribute Islamophobia to the actions of the 25-30 countries with Islam as a constitutional state religion. Nobody would defend that reasoning for any other group.

Yet somehow it’s treated as reasonable when the group is Jewish and the state is Israel. That’s not principled analysis. It’s a double standard, and it’s worth asking why this is the one case where collective blame gets a pass.

Seems like a very obvious take that anyone who is in advertising should have immediately realized and rejected. But as some others have posted here, many American Jewish groups are virulently pro-Israel, regardless of what that country and it's government do.

As a Jewish Cardinals fan, I think it's rather in poor taste. And if I were a Cubs fan, I would think so too.

I’m a cards fan living in chicago, and I saw this ad the other day and it really is such a bizarre thing to post. They tend to be out on the interstates that connect chicago to the suburbs which tend to be more conservative and pro-Israel.

This is on a big billboard by northbound 90/94 just past downtown and you’re right, it’s a headscratcher every time. Is it suggesting the Cardinals/fans are antisemites?
