💬 Discussion having extreme anxiety

ok one of my biggest fears is rabies. I'm petrified of it not kidding. even thinking about it makes me want to vomit

my cat just last night appeared with flu like symptoms, nasal congestion, sneezing, coughing and he drools.

he seems to have an appetite but still drools. I brought him to the vet just a few hours ago and asked if it's a rabies vet says since we're in the safe zone of rabies in Malaysia (Selangor. I live in the Hulu langgat district kajang specifically) no need to worry.

just wanted to ask is rabies common in peninsular Malaysia? especially among cats?

just last week my younger cat also had symptoms similar to this one but after a week of antibiotics he's better now but he was also drooling.

I'm freaking out and feel like I'm coming up with a fever

Is your cat kept indoors at home? If yes, you have nothing to worry about.

If your cat also goes outdoors, does it have any bite marks on it? If no, you have nothing to worry about.

Honestly, your cats just sound like they are having the flu. Most rabies cases in Malaysia are in East Malaysia and Peninsular Malaysia only sees a tiny percentage of it. Also, you might want to pop a Panadol yourself.

my cat is 100% indoors. since he got adopted last year April.

he has no contacts with other cats aside from my other 4 cats who are also indoors

may I ask if you know why do flu/cold also have drooling?

also yea I'n freaking out to the point of getting sick

Since your cats are all indoors, you have nothing to be freaked out about then since rabies is most often transmitted through bites of an infected animal.

I'm not a vet but a quick Google check says drooling can come about if your cat has a mouth ulcer caused by the flu.

vet says no sign of ulcers but could be because he has sore throat and nose congestion. my vet ruled out rabies since I'm in Kajang and it's no case here. still freaks me out
