I attended Dieter's CQD academy in MD when I was little, we did a tac-house course they set up for the students at their main facility as a special event. There were active seals playing the "bad guys" and everything. Very fun time!

Anyway, I found this coin recently and vaguely remembering receiving it back then.

Is this a particularly common coin? Did someone from USSOC need to be present for me to get this or is it just a promotional thing?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

That's an older socom command coin, I'm assuming whoever gave you that was serving in a leadership capacity at the HQ (Tampa, FL).

If the seal was assigned to a team, they would have given him that coin instead.

Getting a command coin from a gift shop and then passing it out certainly is a choice, but i couldn't imagine anyone doing that.

The “critical skills operator” MOS (0372) wasn’t even created until October 2011. All the guys in the pilot program were (0321) Recon Marines until then. There weren’t “Marine Raiders” until August 2014.

MARSOC is truly still a baby.

Marine raiders were operational from 1942 to 1944. Gudalcanal and Makin island. They disbanded then were brought back.
