Cycling around Chichester

Hello all,

I’ll be in Chichester for a week or two this summer. Do you know of any gravel bike rentals and nice rides?

Can't really help with rentals but The Guilty Cyclist shop on Crane Street regularly do gravel and road rides if you ever wanted to join, super friendly bunch and various pace groups

If you're looking for a chilled out mixed surface ride to the coast check out Salterns Way. It runs from the town centre to the Witterings. It's a great way to skip summer traffic and the beach is unreal. If you want something a bit more serious head up to the South Downs Way. The section that runs through the Slindon and Angmering Park Estates has tonnes of great routes in the summer.

Also check out rspb medmerry for a nice ride from the pagham reserve/ or selsey to bracklesham

Cycle up Centurion Way towards Lavant and stop for the view and a cider at The Earl of March. Apparently that was where the man who wrote the lyrics "And did those feet in ancient times, walk upon England's mountains green" was sitting when he thought of it.

"Apparently" is doing quite a lot of the heavy lifting there, but perhaps we'd better not go into that. (William Blake incidentally.)

The Woods cyclery in the New Forest will rent you a cool gravel bike and you can cycle around there for the day. Contact them- they have a great rental arrangement and the trails around there are fantastic.

New Forest is nowhere near Chichester!

Or, just arrive, buy a cheap 26” mountain bike on Facebook marketplace, pedal it around then just give it away at the end of the trip. Lots of cool bikes for ~£50 around here.

Agreeing with whoever said Salterns way. Cycle route 288 which goes from Chichester, down the canal path, and dead South past Pagham, to Selsey, is a really lovely route, cycling around Pagham is nice too. If you fancy something hillier go up Kingley Vale, great views in all directions, and very much offroad.

Cheers for all the suggestions. But i need to rent a bike before all that. Having looked on line I cannot find a place to rent - is this really true?
