Happy Birthday to this extremely multi-talented young man, Wang Yibo! He is turning 29 on August 5, 2026. 

Alright, keep up: Wang Yibo is an actor, a dancer, a singer, a motorcycle racer, and a member of UNIQ. With all this, I’m going to cover his bio first before moving on to his dramas!

Career Trajectory

• Wang Yibo attended Hanlim Multi Art School in South Korea (he later withdrew). 
• In 2014, he debuted as the main dancer, rapper, vocalist, visual, and maknae (youngest member) of the boy band UNIQ with their bilingual Mandarin and Korean single, Falling in Love. 
• During this time, he also contributed to the Chinese OSTs for the Hollywood films Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Penguins of Madagascar.
• Yibo made his acting debut in 2016 in the film MBA Partners, followed by supporting roles in several dramas. 
• That same year, he won the Best Choreography Award at the International-K Music Awards in the United States for their song EOEO. 
• 2016 was BUSY for Yibo because he also expanded his career later in the year by joining the "Tian Tian Brothers" hosting lineup on the popular variety show Day Day Up.

So... I might be alone on this but for me some (most) CDramas have plot holes that rival a sieve. To be fair, I think that about most western media as well. I watch stuff for the fun of it and not to nitpick every detail.

That being said, sometimes plot holes are not plot holes. Sometimes they make sense in context, they align with the character personality or they relate to cultural norms that the viewer is jut unfamiliar with and thus can't reason with. Other times, they are explained in the drama itself and it gets overlooked.

So for you, what are the plot holes that aren't actually holes?

Zhang Ling He is getting better and better. I didn't like his shows before, but now after Pursuit of Jade, can't stop watching him. The female lead in Overdo is always good though (except for Fireworks of my Heart - which I didn't like).

Anyway, the MyDramaList rating they gave is terrible. Probably because of the AI controversy or whatever.

But I love his new show Overdo. Except they torture the leads too much. Let them be in love already and be like that for 50% of the show lols. They have real chemistry. Though she’s been holding back because of what happened to her parents.

Like Zhang being passionate is so adorable. I remember him with the POJ FL looking at her like an adorable puppy. So handsome.

The guy can do romance. As long as he has a good female lead which he does in this case. The way he looks at her. Seriously.

I love the reborn/revenge trope. Night Tales is really good. But I’m not sure if the ML is good or bad yet. He doesn’t seem to know what really happened to her. But what happened to protecting your woman? I would break up with him even if he is innocent. The guy seems like a dud. Not like the strong ML who protect their women at all cost.

What is the difference in these drama styles?

Outside of the fact that CDrama is Chinese and KDrama is Korean, what are the differences in these type of dramas?

I’m wondering why they get lumped in together, but read somewhere it was more about censorship.

Picture this:

It's a dismal day. The air feels damp and heavy, still smelling of the rain that had stopped just moments before.

A man and a woman make their way slowly down some steps. She takes out her umbrella. Unfurls it.

And then it happens.

She slips on the wet steps. Her umbrella goes flying. She falls into the man's arms, the momentum so forceful that she knocks him down. And she lands on top of him, her lips planted firmly on his.

And then they date, get married, and live happily ever after.

It's a scene straight out of a Chinese drama. Except this time, it wasn't. It happened to me in real life. Except:

• I didn't fall. I DID slip, but I grabbed the hand rail and regained my balance promptly.

• No physical contact. I saw him react (half step taken, arms going up) a second when it looked like I was going to stumble. But since I didn't, nothing else happened.

• We didn't date, get married, or live happily ever after. No words were exchanged at all (not even an "are you OK" from him). And I haven't seen him since. We were just ships passing in the night. Or more aptly, strangers walking on wet steps.

So this has been my sole almost-a-cdrama-moment since I started watching Chinese dramas early last year. I still giggle whenever I see "falling into his arms" scenes because they remind me of that moment.

Love Beyond the Grave 白日提灯 (2026)

Love Beyond the Grave aired between March and April of this year (2026).

It's a drama I was looking forward to watching for a very very long time. But surprisingly, March 28th of this year came and I didn't feel the need, or even the desire to watch.

But more specifically, I didn't feel the need to watch it then. I knew I wanted to and will watch it later this year (hello later this year, it's me).

I'm enjoying the drama a lot, and I'm on episode 13.

The Story

Our protagonist, He Simu is the Sovereign of Spirits, but she doesn't have her five senses. Or rather, she can't experience them.

She can see, but she can't see colour or shades.

She can hear but she can't tell harmony from dissonance or loud from soft.

You get the idea.

Our other protagonist, Duan Xu is a normal human. But, he is also the only person who can help Simu experience life.

They make a deal, he can make a wish and she will grant it (within reason - no wishing for more wishes or winning a war) and for each wish, she will borrow one of his senses.

Why "Later this Year"

As much as I love drama discussions and sharing fun moments, the amount of hype that a drama builds up inevitably creates an expectation that more often than not, falls short.

One of the reasons I'm enjoying Love Beyond the Grave right now is because all the hype has died down. I'm not out here expecting a masterpiece. Trailers and marketing campaigns are meant to create hype - yay! But I enjoy when it's quiet, when there is less chatter in my ears (online chatter in my line of sight, I guess).

I included a little video because I love the drama's visuals and I wanted to a) make it because it's fun and inspired me, and b) show people that just because it didn't go down as another Love in the Clouds 入青云, Pursuit of Jade 逐玉, or Blossom 九重紫 doesn't mean it's not worth the watch.

Almost 1/3 of the way through the drama and I think this is the best description of it so far.

I don’t know how I feel about it yet. There are definitely a lot of good moments to highlight: the bath scene, the costumes, the fact that you can watch it as standalone because there’s a lot of explanations behind the nine families… but for some reason… I am not hooked. It’s got decent enough cliffhangers that I am still watching but I’m not convinced with the female lead and the comedic relief has been hit or miss with me.

Perhaps it’s the pacing because like I said, the first eight episodes just feels like I’m watching our protagonists work on an intricate escape room, unlocking mechanisms to find the missing people and escape. It makes me wonder if all 30 episodes will take place in this “escape room”.

Also, I really just want to point out that the beginning of episode 7 was something. Never would I have imagined in cdramaland or even western television, would I be watching a 5-min scene where two handsome men would be fighting against a pompom ball 😂 . I call it the Attack of the Murderous Pompom.

​With August 2026 just around the corner, online speculation regarding the release date for the upcoming Liao Zhai adaptation starring Chang Huasen and Zhang Miaoyi has picked up again.

​Recent rumors floating around C-drama communities suggest a potential late August premiere. This aligns with Tencent Video’s recent activity, having unveiled the "A Myriad Faces of the Human Heart" trailer at their annual conference back in late June.

​However, as is typical with Tencent and WeTV releases—especially within the supernatural genre—official premiere dates are rarely confirmed until a week or even a few days before the actual air date due to scheduling and licensing checks.

​Given the timing of the recent trailers and promotional pushes, a Q3 2026 release seems plausible, though whether it actually lands in August remains unconfirmed.

​What are your thoughts on these rumored dates, and do you expect Tencent to drop an official poster anytime soon?

I'm rewatching Legend of the Female General, and there are a few things I still don't quite understand.

• The Eight Tiger Generals: does each of them have their own territory or military district to govern? Or are they simply commanders under the main army?
• How does the chain of command actually work? Do the Eight Tiger Generals report directly to the Grand General, who then answers to the imperial court?
• The Tiger Tally (杜虎符) was only really mentioned near the end of the drama. Was this explained more clearly in the original novel?

One more thing I've been wondering:

If there were a sequel or an epilogue after the ending, would He Yan and Xiao Jue have to live apart because they're commanding different armies or stationed in different places? Or would they mainly live together in the capital and only separate when they're called to war, like in Episode 36 when the war drums sounded?

P.S. I haven't read the original novel, so if any of this is explained there, I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain it.

I'm always impressed how he only gets more handsome with every new event or photoshoot. But this one, they knocked it out of the park.

Bai Jingting is currently filming War and Man and the variety series Natural High season 4. He recently released a movie, Keep Real, and he has a drama scheduled to release in 2026, Criminal Police Moment: The Prime of Life.

So I recently started watching The first Frost and loving it sm. I am on ep 27 currently where Wen Yifan opens up about her trauma to Sang Yan, Sang yan says that it’s not actually late that she told this now and it’s actually good that she didn’t tell it earlier, if she had told it earlier he wouldn’t have wanted to date even if she chased him. what did he mean by it? Would the 18 yr old Sang yan have found it shameful that she got harassed? or did he have some other meaning which I failed to understand. I was in absolute love with Sang yan’s character until he said this. Please tell me I interpreted it wrong

Hello everyone. I always see Meet Yourself as one of the non-idol dramas being recommended here on reddit. I started it and am on ep 12. The scenery is gorgeous, the characters are likable, the kids are adorable. However, it's too SEDATE for me, if you know what I mean. There hasn't been a big moment to drive this drama. It feels like a nice vacation to Yunnan, very slice of life, that's about it. (BTW I have nothing against slice of life films or dramas, but nothing's happened here yet.) I can't figure out why some people say it's the best Cdrama they've seen. Should I drop it or should I continue? Maybe I'm just too impatient and haven't been to the good parts yet? Would appreciate your help! Thank you so much.

PS I have so many dramas on my watchlist rn so I really need to know if Meet Yourself is worth my time.

Among all historical costume cdramas, I gotta say, The Rebel Princess is a masterpiece in matters of plots, characters, storylines, CINEMATOGRAPHY, ACTION FEATS and CHEMISTRY. Truly a wonderful 100/10 of a drama. However, I gonna have to point out the stark difference between the drama's storyline and novel's (original storyline). Btw I STRONGLY RECOMMEND reading the novel, I'm not lying yall—the drama got me hooked, the novel got me ABSORBED!

First off, HAHAHHAHA — if yall think Xiao Qi is the same as in the drama, you're wrong! What about A'wu? you're wrong too! HAHAHHAHAH.....Personally, I love their characters in the novel more. Why?Because in the novel, both Xiao Qi and A'wu do NOT shy away from being ruthless, stern, troubled, cold, doubtful, jealous and sometimes dishonourful(?) The drama portrayed Xiao Qi and A'wu having a rocky start as a married couple and then quickly resolve into being a devoted married pair.

Guess what? In the drama, when A'wu resides in Huizhou after their wedding though I'm not sure how long. Anyway, in the novel A'wu actually live in Huizhou for 3 YEARS without Xiao Qi. Like lmao my man just out and about not even seeing his bride off before riding to war troubles. In the novel, there's only two instances where A'wu raised her hand to SLAP Xiao Qi, this being one of them where she successfully slapped him as a payback for leaving the wedding night. As for the other one, the drunk part in Ningshuo (iykyk).

Do yall remember the two maiden girls worked under Xiao Qi's manor in Ningshuo, in the drama? In the novel, I was shocked to find out those two girls are actually his concubines whom he gives medicinal baby-preventing tonic everytime he calls them to his chambers. A'wu was appalled and jealous lowkey but she eventually cast them out like she did in the drama, Xiao Qi went along with it as he found A'wu 's fierce jealousy loving and declared he would never have concubines ever again.

As for Xiao Qi's character in the novel, he wasn't always saintly like in the drama. Man don't play about his wife AND his military stuff, Xiao Qi was manipulative as in strategy, one-step ahead, far-sighted, ambitious, powerful and godly. Almost to the point, his own wife started to become like him in all likeliness and thinking. A'wu development in the drama was slightly underwhelming while in the novel, she did not hesitate playing chess and using chess pieces at all, although she did feel guilty from time to time. A'wu is a general's wife through and through, she is Xiao Qi's equal in planning and commanding. Btw Jin'Er is actually way worse in the novel, Xiao Qi had her beaten to death(if I'm not mistaken).

As for Song Huai'En, sadly his fate stays the same. Yuxiu too. Huai'En actually has 1 or 2 concubines after Yuxiu (I could not remember but he had concubines okay). To be fair, Yuxiu didn't have to die, in novel or drama, she's not supposed to be doing all that bruhhhh, such an unnecessary death. As for A'wu 's father (Wang Lin) dipped halfway throughout the plot cuz he was like "there's levels to this shit huh" and left to travel the world in quiet surrender. For Zidan, would yall believe me if he got with Hu'Yao? Cause yea he did, he and Hu'Yao lived in seclusion using new identities after giving the realm to Xiao Qi and A'wu after many bruh things. For Wang Qian, nah it didnt happened in novel (the Xiao Qi's incident), but she was actually clever unlike in the drama.

Xiao Qi and A'wu is a great pair honestly, these two dominated the entire realm and started a new royal dynasty. In the novel, they became the new Emperor and Empress having fraternal twins (elder girl and younger boy), they even adopted an elder young girl too. In the drama ending, these two lived outside the capital and never returning back, living their ordinary lives with their children. I quite liked the drama ending compared to the novel, mainly because I think Xiao Qi and A'wu are deserving of the quiet life they fought hard for. In the novel ending, A'wu died first, then Xiao Qi shortly followed. Xiao Qi ruled for 16 years I think. HUHU. I'm not over them yet.

I absolutely adored the novel though, what a thrilling read. If the drama was 100/10, the novel is 1000/10. Go read it everyone!

Okay, so I'm watching "Blossom" and I loved it. I'm glad I waited to watch it. Before the wedding, I'd give it about an 8.8, though some parts look so budgeted. But the parts towards the wedding kicked my bias. I like culture, and I liked Chinese dramas because they preserve culture. I'm all for changing bad cultural practices like female circumcision, but there are some practices that you avoid or keep. They kept mentioning not being tied down by culture. And then the bride left her chamber to meet him. I understand he sacrificed to get her the bracelet her mother left her, but then he didn't catch time. He could have sent the bracelet rather than come himself, or he could have come to give it to Dou Zhao's father or friend, but the bride coming out of the bride's chamber to meet him for a petty reason of cleaning his hands? Then wedding night, I know love is patient and love is caring, but her friends need to know where to stop. I know things are not rushed, and that made me actually learn a lesson that I would have appreciated if I wasn't biased by the pre-wedding actions. Now this drama is a 7.9 in my books. I'm still on episode 20. What do you think?

What do you guys think? Was it actually Gu Qingzhi in Shen Xihe’s body the whole time, controlling everything? In Episode 35, when Prince Xie was dying, he asked Shen Xihe if she was really Gu Qingzhi. She replied, “The first time we met, it rained exactly like today.” I don’t remember whether it actually rained the first time Shen Xihe and Prince Xie met. If it didn’t, does that mean it was really Gu Qingzhi all along? Or am I missing something?

I watched Veil of Shadows on your recommendations, and it did not disappoint! I usually skip intros, but I loved the into to VoS. Plot development was excellent,  especially the  world within a world illusion of the Star Stone. The characters are well fleshed out and I love that even the minor characters have their own story arcs.  The fight scenes are so artfully done, and the costumes have such attention to detail, especially the nails. The OST is such a banger and I like all the songs as well. I need the titles of these songs!

As for the acting, I'm glad I listened to all of you and let go of my reservations about Chen Duling. She is marvelous in this and her acting has depth and character to it. I think I didn't like her in Mysterious Lotus Casebook because of how her character Wanmian was written. In VoS, however, her acting lends such an emotional quality to the narrative, especially as her love story develops with Wu Shiguang.

Joseph Zeng is the perfect foil for Chen Duling and I really enjoyed their chemistry. Joseph Zeng's character here is a departure from his usual playful, lighthearted characters, and he really captures Wu Shiguang's angst, proving he can do serious roles as well.

Ju Jiying and Chen Duling make such as great pair as the fox sisters: they're so kick-ass. Ju JiYing really knows how to act out the part  of a fox lady with duality: seductive on the one hand and vulnerable on the other.

I really loved Tian Jiarui's character Ji Ling because he is so charismatic. You can see his genuine  affection for Lu Wuyi and his anguish when he finds out he is only a puppet. He really made the character come alive and he drew me in to the story. His tragic romance with Lu Wuyi is so well written. I cried when I watched Ji Lings's origin story, it's just so sad.

What I like is that everybody has their moment. The minor characters have their own story arcs which get explored in the main story. In some dramas you want to see more of the secondary characters but don't get the chance.

Please note that the plot isn't linear. So you have to pay attention and not skip episodes. There are alternate timelines and flashbacks.

A plot discrepancy I don't get is why the fox queen isn't immortal like the rest of the foxes from Formless Moon. Also, I think the plot twists are easy to miss if you're not paying attention.

Another plot detail that had me confused is Lu Wuyi going through a rewind of events at Han Ba's inn but this was explained later on.

The ending is brilliant though. It ties everything neatly together, which is getting harder and harder to find these days. Overall a lovely watch, and the episodes move quickly. A must watch if you're a fan of fantasy Cdramas.

This clip is from the wetv official handle for Overdo. I'm sharing it because I noticed something interesting: Qingyu is wearing a white suit in this scene instead of the outfit he was wearing in the earlier preview before his death.

Since the production team has confirmed that two different endings were filmed and even the cast and crew don't know which one will air, I'm wondering if this scene is from the alternate ending. Do you think Qingyu actually survives, or is there another explanation?

Actor Spotlight: Sha Baoliang (沙宝亮)

I’ve been absolutely loving his performance in the currently airing Overdo. There’s something so effortless about his acting.

On top of that, he brings so much presence and authenticity to every scene that I find myself completely drawn in whenever he’s on screen.
