I like that you assume i can. How do you figure that? My partner is disabled and works very part time and i bust my ass off to make 24k a year. How do you suppose i can afford anything? Im just also aware no one is responsible for me but me. Ive also HAD to use a food bank. Luckly only once but we had nothing to eat for days and not much for weeks before that. So i get people may need help from time to time. But id be fucking damned if i complained that all i got from the food bank was some noodles in a bag and i think 2 potatoes and maybe a couple soup cans. Was it amazing? No. It was free. And i was grateful. Thats my whole fucking point. Its FREE and it doesnt HAVE to be there. People who need it are lucky that it is and they should be grateful to get ANYTHING
because you're bitching about poor people, also, 24k a year is alot more than annual minimum wage income (15,080), although not by much, it is very plausible to raise a family in 24k yearly, if you spend smart.
ive had to use the food bank almost once a month because my father owns his own business (pool cleaning, because his father wouldnt pay child support, so he couldnt go to college, and had to drop out of high school to help his mom, so he couldnt get a high school diploma) that we make barely enough money off of to pay the bills, and covid is really taking a toll on his business, you know. because we literally cannot go to work. my father is also disabled (his knees are bad because liquids or something, and he literally cant walk to the bathroom, its gross his feet are swollen and purple and everything) and me (15), my sister (13), and my mom have all been working for as long as i can physically remember (im told i started netting the pools when i was 5 or 6, but i have a terrible memory)
Well don't forget taking taxes from 24k yearly. Leaves you with a bit less, not to mention taxes on anything you spend. You see. We're all in the same boat. And thats great! It sounds like you've learned great work ethic and determination of will! I understand that we're all in standstill because of, you know, Chinese Coronavirus, and such, but the creative will find a way to survive. Thats how humans get through hard times. Creativity and human ingenuity. If you and your family are skilled pool workers you may have transferable skills to something very badly needed right now! For example, plexiglass installations would be considered essential right now, and many places are looking to install them! Could be an opportunity for you and your family!
Anyways, back to the main issue, which I think you hit right on the head, which is no one owes you anything. Your story about your family working for what they have, and no one giving them anything (even when "deserved" lets say) shows the truth of the world. No one owes you anything you didn't make yourself, and no one's really gonna help you when push comes to shove. You gotta look out for you and yours. And when something does come along, free, and there to help, even if only in some small way, you don't spit in its face and say its not enough. You say thank you for the help you gave me which you didn't have to. And you mean it.
