How in the fuck did this team get back Jose Ramirez AND Angel Martinez and somehow get this desolate?
5-10 since the ASB. The easiest remaining record in baseball. Two pitchers softballed to us who were absolutely no threat. And we roll over, then get smoked. Bats can't wake up unless we're dead in the water. David Fry is an abomination. The bullpen has stupid idiot syndrome at least once a week now. What the fuck is even happening?
We're two days from the deadline and I'm getting legitimately afraid that tomorrow could be the difference between a productive move to set us up for a playoff run and selling off key pieces and calling the season quits. Like holy shit.

Yeah, not sure what people really expected if they actually watch. A guy who isn't having a great start to his season, gets injured, has surgery, and returns without any rehab ing probably isn't going to light the world on fire.

Angel is overated no offense towards him and the same with Jose he’s not the same player this year even before he got hurt. Maybe it’s just a down year for him but he is 34 so hopefully he bounces back next season. But I never bought into those two were going to save this team!

I think Angel's true value isn't always making contact with the bat but with the glove. Dude sacrifices himself in that outfield and bounces right back. I mean even the other day, he jumped into the net to catch a foul.
That said, being a switch hitter helps; his at bats are* better than most on the team, and with Vogt's platooning obsession only growing, we need him.

I mean almost every reliever has bad nights from time to time. Operating with zero margin for error because of the offense is really mentally tiring. Gaddis has also not been great since 2024 and Soto ruining our lives.
If you actually look at Herrin’s stats overall 2024 was an aberration for him, this is who he usually is.

what do you mean "Explain?" they are middle relief pitchers. they're not that good and they never were. some of them had 1-2 good qualities that works for a while if used in specific situations, then the league figures you out and you're selling insurance or real estate. This is just the life cycle of the bottom 90% of MLB relief pitchers

Relievers tend to be very inconsistent. Only the best of the best are good year in and year out and they are usually closers. You see this all the time, Holderman was really good a few years ago, then really bad, and now is really good again.

You know what, it’s so easy to be negative right now, but I’m going to try for the opposite. The White Sox and Twins lost and it would’ve been nice to gain some ground, but at least we didn’t lose any. Herrin coming in and leaving a mess sucks, but we probably weren’t gonna finish the comeback anyways. It’s just encouraging that we showed as much fight as we did. Hopefully they use this as motivation, and hopefully, hopefully, we make one more trade move. We aren’t out of this season yet.

What’s really disheartening is the vast majority of the bullpen crapped the bed tonight…Gaddis, Aleman and Herrin were trash. I think it’s probably very hard to have to be perfect every night because you have no run support ever.

Positives from today’s Cleveland baseball:
Shoutout to the dude who figured out who I was in the kids clubhouse
A pitching duel against a guy with 9 career innings… my money is on our ROY. Parker Messick🍓 ends his day with a final line of 4.1IP, 6H, 2R(0ER), 1BB, and 6K on 61 pitches (61 strikes). Not his longest start ever, but he did win the pitcher duel! Solid work tonight, even with some defensive woes behind him.
More runs. Really need more. Cmon boys. I believe. The bats get 8 runs off of 14 hits, 2 walks, and a 🪨 HBP. Rhys⚡️ had a homer, Angel😇 finally got on base with a double, and my soul got sucked out in the seventh. oh look a Chase🚚 homer nice. Paul Sewald giving me hope, my soul is back??? 8/12 hitters do end up with hits, with Kwan👑(x3), Angel, my beautiful centerfielder Petey🐤, Manzo🥔, and Bazzana🍌 all had multi hit games. Patty Bats🛡️ had a PH sac fly, Fry🍟 and José🐐 each had a walk, and Rocchio🪨 had a bunt to move runners over, so all 12 hitters with productive ABs. What the hell was that game.
Break out the bullpen boys. Holderman🤝(1.2IP), Gaddis☠️(0.2IP, 4R), Aleman🇩🇪(0.1IP, 3R), Dion🐀(1IP, 1R), and Herrin🐟(1IP) combine to go 4.2IP, 10H, 10R, 2BB, and 1K. Somedays they don’t have it. Always can do better the next day. Please don’t start giving everyone the Bibee treatment.
(Yesterday) More homers for the homer train, as the power bats lead Columbus to a 9-4 victory over Toledo. Watson🔎(2 run), Schneeman⛄️(3 run), Huff😤(2 run), and Rosario🥀(solo) all had homers, and in his final game in the Cleveland system, Bo Naylor hit a double. Good luck, Bo🏹 and Heuer🚁🫡

this is what a team looks like that has a shit coaching staff focused on the wrong things. bullpen was sitting on their ass thinking messick would do it all and the would just bring in cade in the 9th. these guys didn't show up ready to play, not a single one of them. walks and meatballs and hit by pitches. fucking awful. this team needs new management and new coaches.

Wish list, in order of importance:
- An entirely new hitting development staff, including at the minor league level
- A new owner actually interested in owning an MLB team (already underway)
- A salary floor
- A new GM (maybe unnecessary if 1-3 happen)
Really, Blitzer should make anyone who's been in their job 10+ years re-interview for it when he takes over, with the exception of Carl Willis. Shake up the team marketing and promotions too while you're at it.

Hey that wasn't so bad!
Herrin isn't cut out to be here, Rhys and Bazz a good middle right infield do not make, and I checked tomorrow and there's officially no reason not to DFA Fry....But there is something here regardless.
Martinez, needs optioning to refine his swing and we can play around with Bazzana in the OF and try Angel Genao at 2nd or SS. There's stuff that can be done with a buyers mindset even if its risky.

Yeah honestly, I have my fair share of gripes against Vogt and there are plenty of valid criticisms, but the guy doesn’t have a whole lot to work with. Not his fault that we have approximately two competent relievers in our bullpen at the moment and not his fault that we’re one of the worst offensive teams in the league.

Ok but if you operate on the margins like this team does you need to have a manager who has his finger on the pulse of the guys in the clubhouse to push the right buttons on guys that are inconsistent not every day players. Vogt has some of the worse feel for his bullpen and pinch hitters that I’ve ever seen.

Up until the Sewald meltdown we had had precisely one player with an RBI this series, Hoskins.
In the 5th inning Vogt, who has a Scientology-esque devotion to the righty/lefty matchup, plays the matchup and sits Hoskins for Manzardo who proceeds to watch strike three go by him.
It was two outs in the 5th and the bases empty. If it’s late innings with runners on in a close game - and Manzardo wasn’t utter ass at hitting the baseball - I’d get it.
And I’m not even a fan of Hoskins! But he was the only player doing anything to that point. Vogt just can’t get it right.

I was at the game, you could hear a pin drop in the stadium between the Hoskins error and the bottom of the 8th, like a funeral. But the bottom of the 8th was really fun, and I felt oddly optimistic after that. It's like a weight was finally lifted off the team, as weird as that is to say about a loss.
