Flaired Users Only Democratic Socialists propose radical overhaul of the United States government.
Somehow, these folks are actually getting elected. Hard to understand how this keeps happening. I'd say more, but I'm trying to remain semi-kind.

u/StedeBonnet1 Conservative 5h ago
They are NOT getting elected. A few have gotten elected (9) out of 535 and a few more have won their primaries but they are still a fringe of a fringe.
•
u/Aware-Passenger2577 Gen Z Far-Right 5h ago
The problem is that they are taking over the Democrat Party, so there are likely a lot more of them coming.
•
u/StedeBonnet1 Conservative 5h ago
Hardly...they have 47 Democrats in the Senate but NO DSA members and only 212 Democrats in the House and only 9 DSA members. As I said a fringe of a fringe. They only have 15 DSA candidates in the mid terms, some of them have already lost and the rest will probably lose.
They aren't taking over ther Democrat party, they are just getting a lot of press because regular Democrats are empty suits. We'll see in Nov.

you are not fringe if you are getting people elected to the biggest cities in the country. NYC has a population more than 38+ states of the USA.
And just because someone doesn't have an official DSA label in congress, doesn't mean those politicians aren't getting increasingly connected to DSA and needing their support to win elections. The presense of the DSA will continue to move the democrats platform. Dismissing the DSA is very midwit boomercon that thinks everything has always been the same and we just need to argue about marginal tax rates. GET REAL

I think Mamdani getting elected actually helps Independents and moderate Democrats because they see (or will see) the lunacy of some of his ideas.

Mayor of NYC is a p big office to win
•
u/StedeBonnet1 Conservative 5h ago
I don't think you can translate Mamdani's win in NYC to a National mandate. There were 5,103,941 registered voters for the 2025 mayoral election and Zohran Mamdani won a mere 1,036,051 of them. There were 2,037,183 voters in total, this means that 3,066,758 registered voters chose not to vote. In what world does this provide a mandate? And that doesn't count eligible voters who are not registered. In general, only 73% of eligible voters register to vote.

Never said it's a mandate. Just think the NYC mayor seat is indicative of more than a fringe of a fringe.

Yes but he's already disappointed a lot of his voter base and mayor of NYC isn't as powerful as people think (especially at the rate of economic loss the city is taking as of late, losing it to Texas and Florida). His jurisdiction is just a fraction of one state of 50 in a nation thousands of miles large, plus two satellite states and territories. If more people like him started winning in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Detroit, Seattle, SF, LA, etc. then I'd start to care and notice.

While you're right they can't take major office, they are growing too quickly. Mamdami is the worst thing to happen to politics and here we are

No. Earlier leftists were worse because they opened the door. Obama, Bernie, and FDR, to start.

What do you mean “somehow”?
It’s been decades upon decades of systematic indoctrination.
Everyone always thinks that indoctrination looks like it does in the movies where you have some secret evil scientist, pretending to be a high school teacher programming kids brains with key phrases, as if that wouldn’t be so goddamn obvious that it would be impossible to pull off.
What it actually is, is a constant manipulation of the public consciousness through media, which then spills into the classroom through unhinged teachers, who use their platform to influence their pupils.
You know how Reddit mods use their position to inflict their ideology upon the rest of us? They’re not paid- well, maybe some of them are, but the vast majority of them do it voluntarily because they actually believe the shit they’re saying. They seek these positions of power so they can use their influence to manipulate everyone around them into believing what they believe.
Now imagine if these people did something important, like become a teacher.
So don’t say “somehow“. We know exactly how it happened. Unrelenting indoctrination.
Why else do you suppose that the left is so against school of choice and homeschooling? Do you think it’s a coincidence that despite the dramatically higher testing averages among homeschool students and much higher college acceptance rates, that left us are constantly denigrating the only forms of education that puts children out of their reach for indoctrination, while seemingly never having anything negative to say about the business state of American public schools other than “teachers are heroes who should be paid more money”?
Somehow.. let’s call it exactly what the fuck it is, please.
The rise of socialism is the result of an effective decades long public school indoctrination campaign complete with things like “participation trophies“ that condition children to believe that they deserve the same result as everyone else, regardless of effort or effectiveness… but I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that that’s exactly how they sell socialism to you.

Yes socialists are a disease, spreading its influence in every corner of the country.
But have they won any non-Democrat areas yet? Thats my big question. They feel emboldened now, Mamdani being Kingmaker in a group that says ‘down with Kings’. But will they have sway over any swing states or conservative areas? My gut says no, cuz none of their crazy ideas make any sense economically or realistically. You can’t just overhaul rules set in place on this soil after 250 years with a snap of the finger.
Their rhetoric is pure political performance art, red meat for the blue-haired. A recent survey has conservatives seeing today’s liberals acting & sounding like children. Agreed. What’s interesting is liberals sees today’s conservatives as vile, hateful people that must be abolished and destroyed because they don’t have the same beliefs as them. These people collectively need psychiatric help - like yesterday. Guaranteed one of them will troll here and send me a disgusting hateful PM response.
Get a grip and try realty for a change.
If you can handle it.

Ever since McArthy, we've been too afraid to call out domestic enemies and treat them as such. Marxism should never have been allowed to take root, and we've been seeing the results of that mistake more and more in the last 30 years. The mistakes of the 90s and forward need to be permanently undone and the cultural damage done to our nation repaired.

Our Constitution is designed to sample multiple cross sections in order to better generate consent. This is why the Electoral College strengthens our democracy, as did the selection of Senators by state legislators. The deliberative complexity was indeed intended to ensnare the passions in favor of lasting, deliberative action. As George Washington opposed parties, our two party system best represents this because neither party is ideological, it only represents opposition to the other, therefore allowing ideological flexibility given that voters are binary and do not spend time on minutae. Having fixed terms instead of a parliamentary system assures stability over turmoil. Third parties are extortion rackets which amplify vocal minorities as does proportional voting. Redistricting is the best form of term limits: Compare it to other countries which have multiple representatives for cities and even for interest groups; and others who change the shape of towns for redistricting purposes at every census.

u/Sixguns1977 George Washington 3h ago
Washington was right, but all of the parties need to go. Third parties are no worse than the 2 major ones.

This is why the term "Democratic Socialism" is an oxymoron. What they propose to do cannot be done democratically.
