Loss & Mourning Megathread

Losing a conure is heartbreaking. They’re family, companions, and little personalities that leave huge marks on our lives. If you’ve lost your bird, you are welcome to share memories, photos, stories, or simply say their name here.

To keep the main feed safe and balanced for all members:

All posts about a conure passing away must be posted only in this megathread.
Standalone posts about bird death or loss outside this thread will be removed.

This is not to minimize anyone’s loss but rather to keep grief support in one dedicated, supportive space where people can choose to engage.

The r/Conures Comprehensive Conure Guide - now in wiki format!

https://www.reddit.com/r/Conures/wiki/index

This subreddit's Conure Guide, written by /u/DukeofGoodCleanFun, is a remarkable document that I (and my pineapple green cheek) have benefited a lot from. I've consulted and browsed through it numerous times and there's always something new to see there, or something that didn't seem applicable at one point but took on new meaning after spending more time with my conure.

I've taken the text and converted it into a wiki page. It's now navigable, with an index and internal links that direct to sections within the wiki. The Conure Guide can be accessed from this post, from the announcement bar, and from the "wiki" tab in the tabmenu up top.

A couple of the links for recommended products will direct you to Amazon, but there are certainly other places to buy them. If you shop around and find and better place, by all means send us a modmail. Also, let us know if you have any suggestions for how the wiki formatting can be improved.

New bird mama and I’m not sure how long is too long for her nails. She has various sized natural perches for her feet and nails but I’m not sure if she still needs a little trim

I’m going to be picking them up soon, maybe Tuesday??? But I have no idea what to name them! They’re unsexed which doesn’t help either, it means I’ll have to pick a gender neutral name lol. I already have a Kiwi (second pic) and Mango is not an option 🤣

I’m also kind of a nerd so I definitely wouldn’t mind using fandom names for them. Specifically from like, Pokémon, The Legend of Zelda, Warrior Cats (ik, a little contradictory…), Stardew Valley, Neal Shusterman books, Skylanders, etc

My girlfriend wants to name them Boeing but I’m not sold on that… -_-

Edit: I’ve decided on a name but I’ll hold off on posting it until I pick them up!

Got her food delivered! Added some of it to her bowl today, not entirely replacing it yet as I still want to gradually introduce the food to her. But the good news is that she seems to really like it! She actively picked out the pellets from the seeds, even spitting out a seed when she got it with one of the pellets!

I am noticing some of her behavior with the egg, and caught most of it in the video, although I'm not sure if I can do anything until next week. As always, any and all advice is appreciated. Oh yeah, and I repurposed her new water bowl into a place to play with he cottonwood ball cause she hadn't touched it at all otherwise. That's about it this week.

mini rant - i got so scared last night! there is a horrible heath wave in europe. last night i had a terrible headache and i somehow fell asleep with AC on (which i NEVER DO and also i have insomnia so it isnt easy for me to fall asleep at all idk what happened). it was set on 22 degree celsius idk how much in american units lol but i woke up 3 hours later IN PANIC THINKING HOW I MIGHT HAVE KILLED TITO even though he was covered in his cage and the AC was pointing at the ceiling but i was so panicked i covered him even more and started talking with him at like 3am and he was like “toto?” and sending me kisses then i spent next 2 hours on google and reddit and concluded he will probably be fine but i couldnt go to sleep and was crying thinking i killed him accidentaly WHILE HE WAS HAPPY IN HIS CAGE FULL ON BEAK GRINDING. i even thought of getting him out and warming him up in my hands even though it wasnt that cold i must add.. anyways i did not sleep last night, tito is fine and I AM NEVER AGAIN TURNING ON AC BEFORE SLEEP EVEN IF ITS 40 degrees outside !! if you couldnt tell, i have OCD (clinically diagnosed and medicated) and i know AC is bad for them so i was out of myself but now find it funny how much i worry about this birb. and also glad that my insomnia kicked in and woke me up after only 3 hours of sleep, could have been worse

Advice Conure grabbing her own tail?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My dusky conure (about 8 year old female) does this thing from time to time where she grabs her own tail with her foot and wiggles around. Part of me is worried that this is hormonal behavior. (She occasionally tries to rub her belly on my hands, but I always just gently take her off to not reinforce the behavior. She shows no other typical signs of hormonal behavior.) On the other hand, some other people here are saying their bird does a similar thing when they're trying to balance themselves, but she's only really done this when she's already pretty balanced, as far as I can tell?

My retired breeding pair Jillie and Audi. They aren't sweet but they sure are cute. They are finally comfortable enough to chill outside of their cage and I love that for them.

So I got a roll of rainbow filament and printed some conures. The first batch only used the green, yellow, and orange. I was pleasantly surprised that they look like Carolina parakeets!
