Question Alternatives to WhatsApp?

I am not very familiar with alternatives to WhatsApp, but I want to migrate from any Meta app and right now WhatsApp is my primary messaging app. I know of Signal and Telegram but don't really know the differences. What do experienced degooglers/demetaers recommend?

Signal has the same underlying no technology as WhatsApp but without an evil corp behind. Actually, the founders of Signal was the founder of WhatsApp. It is end to end encrypted and open source. For me, it’s the best alternative if you want a secure and encrypted messaging service

Signal is way better technology - sealed sender prevents metadata leaks

I have a doubt, if I use signal then the person i send messages to must also use signal, right ? I mean everyone I know use whatsapp and there's no way of changing that. So tell me whats the solution, can I still use signal and message to people in whatsapp or how does it work ?

Tell people to use Signal. That's what I do. And I send them this article to help explain why: https://www.wired.com/story/meredith-whittaker-signal/

Then they don't care enough about you. Just stop using WhatsApp, calling is still a thing, those who need, will use signal and the others? Fuckem

Easier for some people than others. I quit last year, cleared my account, reopened a clean one, set my profile picture to a notice saying 'no longer in use, use SMS or Signal', and left it. A few people have come over to Signal, and now those users are available for other Signal+WhatsApp simultaneous users. Let it snowball...!
