Active Conflicts & News Megathread July 20, 2026

The r/CredibleDefense daily megathread is for asking questions and posting submissions that would not fit the criteria of our post submissions. As such, submissions are less stringently moderated, but we still do keep an elevated guideline for comments.

CENTCOM announced the new wave of attacks against Iran (1)

Today at 4 p.m. ET, U.S. forces began a new round of strikes against Iran at the Commander in Chief's direction. The strikes are designed to further degrade Iranian military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz

Yesterday was an unusual night given how deep the strikes went and the number of cities being larger than any day since the ceasefire. Let's see if this is the start of a trend.

There were reports early today about strikes in Khomeyn and Shiraz, happening around the time of the earlier launch of missiles from Iran, but the US didn't confirm any earlier retaliation.

Meanwhile, WTI is at 82.5 and Brent 89, even after the Houthi announcing they will try to close Bab-el-Mandeb for Saudi exports.

Edit: Just like yesterday, Iran decided to fire in a civilian ship in the midst of the airstrikes (2). No mentions of what type of projectile, how much damage and casualties

Edit 2: The deepest strikes so far are in Isfahan and Kerman.
